Canopy cleaning in Didcot
We clean canopies in Didcot when the kitchen is not cooking: after service, overnight or at the weekend. The equipment underneath is switched off, left to cool and sheeted so the kitchen is ready when we go. We are often asked to deal with grease dripping from the canopy edge and overflowing grease troughs and gutters, across island canopies, baffle filters and grease gutters.
Around a town like Didcot, extract cleaning normally means a restaurant, pub, takeaway or the kitchen of a school or care home. Whatever the kitchen, the canopy, filters, duct and fan all collect grease, and each is cleaned to the same TR19® standard.
It’s worth checking any contractor’s accreditations. We’re a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease, and we hold CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001, with full insurance on top.

What the work involves, part by part
Wall canopies
Long wall canopies often have several filter banks. We work along the canopy section by section, with pictures for each.
School and staff canteen kitchens
Lighter cooking still leaves grease on the canopy. BESA guidance still sets a minimum interval for the whole system, and the canopy is part of it.
When to call us in Didcot
A canopy in Didcot picks up grease at much the same rate as one anywhere else with the same cooking: it comes down to how long the kitchen cooks and what’s on the menu. Frying and grilling load a canopy far faster than steaming or boiling.
What we are most often called out for:
- Grease channels that no longer drain
- A canopy flagged at an environmental health inspection
- Condensation and grease dripping together
- Fat running down the front of the hood
For kitchens close to Didcot Parkway station, where the day often starts early and ends late, the extract can be cleaned overnight.
What to look for in a quote
- If the quote is a fixed price or an estimate
- Whether a written report and photos are included
- Whether the work can be done while the site is closed
- How areas they can’t reach will be recorded
Grease, kitchens and Didcot
There are about 34 restaurants, cafés and canteens and about 29 takeaways within about 1.5 miles of central Didcot, according to the Food Standards Agency’s register. Any of those kitchens with a canopy has a hood that needs cleaning inside and out. Kitchens in Didcot get their food hygiene inspections from South Oxfordshire council. The cleanliness of the kitchen and its equipment, extraction included, is part of what they check. Before-and-after pictures from each clean are a simple way to show the extract is in hand. Didcot sits within the area of Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue Service. The Fire Safety Order puts the duty on whoever runs a kitchen to control its fire risk, and a greasy duct is fuel.
Church and community hall kitchens, near Church of All Saints or anywhere around Didcot, are easy to forget, but their extracts collect grease like any other. Healthcare kitchens, like those at hospitals such as Abingdon Community Hospital (about 4.8 miles north-west), often cook for long hours, which puts them in BESA’s heavier-use bands.
Didcot is about 10 miles south of Oxford, in Oxfordshire. Whether your site is in the middle of Didcot or further out, canopy cleaning is available to all kinds of commercial premises, from a single unit to a large public building. Our Oxfordshire coverage runs to 443 places, Didcot among them. For sites nearby, see our Oxford page (10 miles or so).
Canopy cleaning in OX11 follows the same survey, fixed quote and written report as everywhere else we cover. We cover sites on Station Road, Market Place and High Street and nearby roads. You’ll find Didcot on the A4130 and B4016, so it’s easy for us to get to for out-of-hours visits. If your site is just outside Didcot, we cover Great Western Park (1 mile west), Appleford-on-Thames (2 miles north), Milton (2 miles north-west), Sutton Courtenay (2 miles north-west) and Long Wittenham (3 miles north-east). Within a short drive, we also cover Oxford (10 miles north), Abingdon-on-Thames (5 miles north), Thame (15 miles north-east), Wantage (8 miles west), Grove (8 miles west) and Faringdon (15 miles west). Being one of Oxfordshire’s larger places, Didcot has commercial sites of every size, and we cover all of them for canopy cleaning.
What’s near Didcot
In Didcot, that means kitchens and buildings near Didcot Girls' School, The Queens Arms and UTC Oxfordshire. Didcot has its own railway station: Didcot Parkway station. For landlords and multi-site operators
We work for landlords, managing agents and facilities managers as well as the people running the site. Where a system serves more than one tenant, such as a shared riser, it helps to agree who arranges the work, and we can quote for the whole system.
From a single site to a large estate, you get the same standard: a survey first, a fixed quote, the work timed around the site and a report with pictures.
Why act early in Didcot
If the canopy waits for the next full clean, grease keeps adding up. In a busy kitchen, the canopy and plenum can need attention between TR19 cleans, and readings or a look behind the filters will show it. Dealt with now, it’s a planned visit around your hours rather than a callout when the site needs to be open.
The price reflects the work, not guesswork. That is why every job is surveyed first, and why the quote is fixed before work begins.
Why Didcot businesses choose us
- We diagnose before we treat
- A written report with photos after each visit
- A fixed price before any work starts

Your questions about canopy cleaning in Didcot
Which fire and rescue service is responsible for Didcot?
Fire safety enforcement in Didcot is handled by Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue Service. TR19® is not law, but it’s the benchmark many fire officers and insurers look to when they ask how often the extract is cleaned.
Who would carry out a food hygiene inspection at a kitchen in Didcot?
Food hygiene inspections in Didcot are carried out by South Oxfordshire council. How often a business is inspected depends on the risk rating the council gives it, so it’s worth staying ready all year.
Can I just have the canopy cleaned instead of the whole system?
A canopy-only clean is possible, but it isn’t a full TR19 clean. TR19 Grease covers everything the grease travels through, at intervals set by BESA guidance.
What happens to the waste?
We take it away when we go. While we work, it’s kept contained so the area stays clean.
When do you clean the canopy?
We clean out of hours as a matter of course, at night, early in the morning or at weekends. The kitchen is handed back ready to cook.
How much does canopy cleaning cost?
Size, condition, access and working hours all affect the cost. Call for a fixed quote and we will normally reply within one working day.
Is there a survey before the work?
Yes. Photos often do the job, and larger or hidden systems get a visit.
Are you accredited?
CHAS, SafeContractor, ISO 9001 and BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite membership, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease. We’ve been trading since 2009 and we are fully insured.
What we do, step by step
At the end of the visit, someone from your team can look over the work with us. Anything we couldn’t reach or that needs attention is pointed out there and then, and it goes on the report too. All told, the work takes part of a shift for most kitchens, more where there are several canopies or heavy deposits. Before the visit, a few pictures of the system and how to reach it help us plan the work in Didcot.
- We look at the canopy, filters and troughs first.
- Out of hours, the range is switched off, cooled and covered.
- We lift out the filters and scrape the plenum and housing.
- The canopy shell, seams, troughs and gutters are degreased inside and out.
- Filters are refitted, the area cleaned down and the photo report put together.
How to prepare
- Mention any locked doors, roof access or ceiling voids
- Move anything stored near the system
- Tell us where we can park and unload
Get a fixed quote
The quickest way to a quote is to send pictures: wide shots of the system, close-ups of anything that worries you and how we’d get to it. Tell us what kind of site it is and when it’s open, and many jobs can be priced from that alone.

Looking after it afterwards
Results last longer with the right care. Here’s what we suggest:
- Check all filters are fitted before service
- Check and empty canopy gutters regularly
- Wash or exchange the filters on a regular cycle
- Run the extract the whole time you are cooking
File the report alongside your fire risk assessment, so it’s ready when an EHO, insurer or fire officer asks. Photos of a clean canopy and plenum make the record easy to follow.
Wipe the canopy surfaces at the end of each day. It doesn’t reach the plenum, but it stops the outside building up.
Staff cleaning versus specialist work
Keep a record of what your team does. A simple log of filter washes, wipe-downs and checks helps show that the system is managed between specialist visits, alongside our reports.
In-house cleaning and specialist cleaning do different jobs. A daily filter wipe and a weekly filter wash keep grease down at the front of the system, but grease that has passed the filters is out of reach. That part needs specialist access and equipment.
