Canopy Cleaning in Morden
Canopy cleaning in Morden from ventilation hygiene specialists trading since 2009. Evenings, overnight and weekends, plus a 24/7 emergency line.
- Grease dripping from the canopy edge
- Overflowing grease troughs and gutters
- A canopy that no longer draws the smoke away
Canopy cleaning in Morden
For canopies and hoods in Morden, the work follows the same careful routine: filters out, plenum scraped and degreased, then the canopy cleaned inside and out. You get pictures of the canopy before and after. If you have smoke hanging around the canopy during service and drips from the canopy onto the range, we can put it right.
Across London, many commercial kitchens are squeezed into basements and narrow back-of-house spaces, and the duct may run up through several floors before it discharges at the roof. In Morden, as elsewhere in the capital, a long duct run means more access points to open and more grease to remove.
Duct Doctor has been trading since 2009, and we’re a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease. We also hold CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001, and we are fully insured.

How it works
The first job on site is protection: sheeting goes over floors and surfaces close to the work. After that, the system is made safe and the work begins. It takes a few hours for most canopies, and the area is cleaned down before we leave. Managed blocks in London often need contractors booked in ahead, and we’re happy to deal with the agent directly for a site in Morden.
- The canopy is checked from pictures or on a visit.
- Once the kitchen has closed, the cooking line is cooled and sheeted.
- With the filters removed, the plenum and filter channels are cleaned.
- The canopy shell, seams, troughs and gutters are degreased inside and out.
- Filters are refitted, the area cleaned down and the photo report put together.
How to prepare
- Move anything stored near the system
- Let us know how we reach the system, including roofs, risers and plant rooms
- Make sure equipment near the work can be switched off and left to cool
Ask for a quote
The quickest way to a quote is to send photos: wide shots of the system, close-ups of anything that worries you and how we’d get to it. Add the site type and your opening hours, and many jobs can be priced from that alone.
Related advice
What affects the quote in Morden
Before we fix a price, we need to know a few things. We look at:
- Whether we need access equipment or extra panels
- Working hours and out-of-hours timing
- A single visit or a regular plan
- How many systems or sites are involved
You won’t find a price list here, because the cost depends on the site in front of us. Call for a fixed quote, and we’ll talk you through it.
What we need to know
When you call or email, these details help:
- Wide pictures of the system and the area around it
- Anything you’ve noticed, such as smells, noise, drips or poor airflow
- Any access panels or hatches you can see
- The site address and the type of premises
To help us quote: the address, the type of site and when it’s open, photos of the system and the last certificate or report, if there is one. Once you have those, call 0345 646 2711, or email photos.
FAQs for Morden
How do you handle parking and loading in Morden?
London parking can be tight, so details of loading bays and permits help. Where restrictions apply in the day, an evening or overnight visit normally gets round them.
Can you come to Morden after we close?
Yes. We work evenings, overnight and at weekends. The work in Morden can fit around your hours. Your opening times are the first thing we ask for.
What does TR19 mean?
TR19® is BESA’s specification for ventilation hygiene. Since 2019, TR19® Grease has been a standalone specification for grease in kitchen extract systems, while TR19® Air covers other supply and extract ductwork.
Are you accredited?
BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite membership, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease, plus CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001. We’re fully insured and have been trading since 2009.
Can you come out in an emergency?
Yes, 24/7. Our office is open from 8am to 6pm on weekdays, with the emergency line covering every other hour.
How do you keep the site clean during the work?
Protection goes down first: floor sheeting and covers over nearby surfaces and equipment. We tidy up and take our waste away before we leave.
Why does grease run off the canopy edge?
Most drips come from overflowing troughs, damaged filters or a plenum thick with grease. We clean all three and point out anything that is causing it.
What if parts of the system cannot be reached?
They’re listed in the report, never skipped quietly. You will know exactly which parts weren’t reached and why, along with a quote to put access in.
For landlords and multi-site operators
Keeping records across a portfolio is half the battle. Each visit ends with a dated report and pictures, so you can show an insurer or inspector what was done at each site.
From a single site to a large estate, you get the same standard: the system surveyed, the price fixed, the visit fitted around trading and everything written up afterwards.
Why act early in Morden
Drips from a dirty canopy land on the cooking line. That’s a hygiene problem as well as a fire one, and environmental health officers look at the cleanliness of equipment, extraction included. Shared walls, risers and roofs mean a problem at one London site seldom stays put.
Kitchens, offices, schools and hospitals are all priced the same way: the size of the job, access, condition and working hours. Call for a fixed quote and we will go through it with you.

Morden kitchens: local notes
The FSA’s food hygiene register shows about 152 cafés, restaurants and staff canteens and about 62 takeaways and sandwich shops within about 1.5 miles of central Morden. Each canopy in those kitchens catches grease on the inside of the hood and behind the filters. It’s Merton council that sends environmental health officers to food businesses in Morden. They look at how clean the premises and equipment are, and the kitchen extract is part of that. Keeping each certificate and photo report on file helps show the extract is looked after. London Fire Brigade covers Morden. Its fire safety officers can audit commercial kitchens, and grease in the extract is part of a kitchen’s fire risk.
Commuter trade near St Helier station can mean long cooking hours, and long hours put a kitchen into BESA’s more frequent cleaning bands. Kitchens that cook twelve hours or more a day, as some healthcare kitchens do, fall into BESA’s three-monthly minimum; St. Anthony's Hospital is the nearest hospital to Morden, about 1 mile south-west.

Looking after it afterwards
A little care between visits keeps the system in better shape. We recommend:
- Keep every filter in place while cooking
- Refit filters the right way round and fully seated
- Check and empty canopy gutters regularly
- Keep the fan on through service
File the report alongside your fire risk assessment, so it’s ready when an EHO, insurer or fire officer asks. Photos of a clean canopy and plenum make the record easy to follow.
Clean filters are the canopy’s first defence. Wash or exchange them regularly, and make sure they’re all in place before cooking. The plenum behind them stays cleaner.
Honest limits
We will always give you a straight diagnosis, so here’s what this work cannot put right:
- A dirty extract fan further along the system
- Poor airflow from a fan that needs repair
- Filters that no longer seal in the housing
If you are not sure, just call 0345 646 2711, or send details by email and we will give you a straight answer.
Parts of the system we cover
- Canopy light fittings
- Wall canopies
- Baffle filters
- Island canopies
- Plenum chambers
- Grease gutters
When to call us in Morden
Because the plenum sits behind the filters, it’s easy to forget. Daily cleaning reaches the canopy face but rarely gets further, leaving the plenum and housing to collect grease between professional cleans.
Clients typically contact us when they notice one of these:
- A canopy flagged at an environmental health inspection
- Smoke hanging around the canopy during service
- A hood coated in old grease
- Drips from the canopy onto the range
If you run a church or community hall kitchen, near St Lawrence Church or elsewhere in Morden, its extract still collects grease from every lunch and event.
