Canopy cleaning in Ivychurch

Canopy cleans are done out of hours: after service, overnight or at the weekend. Cooking equipment is turned off and cooled, then covered so the kitchen is ready when we go. We’re often asked to deal with an EHO comment about the canopy and a filter housing caked in grease, across canopy light fittings, wall canopies and island canopies.

Somewhere as small as Ivychurch, commercial kitchens are few: perhaps a pub, a school or care home kitchen, or a hall used for events. Every one of them still needs its extract kept clear of grease.

The report is your system’s health record: dated, with photos, and showing what was done. Grease extract cleans are also certificated to TR19® Grease through the BESCA VHE portal and sits alongside the report.

Landlords, agents and facilities managers

We regularly work with managing agents. Send the address, what’s needed and how access works, and we’ll send a fixed quote.

We work for landlords, managing agents and facilities managers as well as the people running the site. Where a system serves more than one tenant, such as a shared riser, it helps to agree who arranges the work, and we can quote for the whole system.

Questions from Ivychurch

Which environmental health team covers Ivychurch?

In Ivychurch, it’s Folkestone and Hythe council that carries out food hygiene inspections. An officer may look up into the canopy, so clean filters on the day and a recent certificate on file both help.

Do you work overnight in Ivychurch?

Yes. We work evenings, overnight and at weekends. The site is handed back ready to open. When you give us a ring on 0345 646 2711, or send details by email, mention when the site is quiet.

What happens to the filters during the clean?

We remove the filters to reach the plenum, and they’re cleaned before going back in. We’ll tell you if any need replacing.

Do you clean inside the canopy as well as outside?

The whole canopy, inside and out. We also remove the filters and clean the plenum and housing behind them because that’s often the dirtiest part.

Are you accredited?

We are a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease. CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001 are in place too, and we are fully insured.

What information do you need?

Just the basics: where it is, what kind of site, when it’s open and the access. Photos and any previous paperwork make it quicker. After that, simply ring 0345 646 2711 or use the quote form.

How long will it take to clean the canopy?

A single canopy with a light build-up is fairly quick, but large or heavily soiled canopies take longer. You’ll know before any work starts.

What happens to the waste?

Anything we remove is contained as we work and taken away with us, including grease, debris and dirty water. None of it is left on site.

Canopy cleaning in Ivychurch: the local picture

We cover Ivychurch, about 54 miles from central London, as part of our work across London and the South East. We work evenings, overnight and at weekends, so the visit fits around the site. Kitchens in Ivychurch get their food hygiene inspections from Folkestone and Hythe council. A greasy canopy or dripping filters are the sort of thing an inspection can pick up. A dated certificate in the maintenance file answers the question before it’s asked.

Whether the kitchen is in Ivychurch itself or nearby, a TR19® clean covers the whole system, canopy to discharge. A hall kitchen that only cooks for events, whether near Church of St George or elsewhere in Ivychurch, still needs its extract cleaned, just less often.

Why act early in Ivychurch

Leaving the canopy until the next full clean can mean months of build-up. In a busy kitchen, the canopy and plenum can need attention between TR19 cleans, and readings or a look behind the filters will show it. Rural sites can’t always move to another kitchen or room when something fails.

A single site or a whole portfolio, we price it on the same basis: what needs doing, how we get to it and when. The price is fixed before any work starts.

Staff cleaning versus specialist work

Keep a record of what your team does. A simple log of filter washes, wipe-downs and checks shows an inspector that the system is looked after between visits, alongside our reports.

Some jobs should never be done in-house: entering ducts, working on fans, testing dampers and taking grease readings need training, the right equipment and safe access. Leave those to us.

What affects the quote in Ivychurch

The diagnosis comes before the price. We look at:

  • The number of sites or systems
  • Where the site is and how we reach it
  • How easy every part is to reach
  • A single visit or a regular plan

Combining work into one visit or one programme can make for a more efficient booking. Mention every system or site you need covered and we will price it together.

What to send for a quote

Before you ask for a quote, gather:

  • Where the plant sits or the system leaves the building, such as a roof or outside wall
  • Anything you’ve noticed, such as smells, noise, drips or poor airflow
  • Photos showing the whole system and its surroundings
  • Detail shots of panels, filters and grilles

Every quote begins with a look at the system, either from pictures and details you send or from a site visit. Then we send a fixed price so you know the cost before any work starts.

The process

We turn up at the time agreed with you, which is often after service, overnight or at a weekend. Anything that needs to be off for the work is switched off and left to cool before work begins, and floors and nearby surfaces are sheeted. The work itself takes a few hours for most canopies. The timing of a visit to Ivychurch is set by you, and the travel is our side of the planning.

  1. First the canopy is surveyed, by pictures or in person.
  2. The range is turned off and allowed to cool before we cover it.
  3. With the filters out, the plenum and housing are cleaned back.
  4. The canopy is cleaned inside and out, including troughs and seams.
  5. Filters go back, the area is cleaned down and pictures are taken.

Preparing for the visit

  • Name a contact who can let us in at the agreed time
  • Agree a time when the area can be out of use
  • Dig out any earlier paperwork for the system

How to get a quote

We do not publish a price list, because every site is different. Instead, we look at your site first, from pictures or a survey, and then give you a fixed quote. To start, phone us on 0345 646 2711 or use the quote form.

What the work involves, part by part

Pub and hotel kitchens

In pubs and hotels, the kitchen may be busy for much of the day. Long hours mean the canopy collects grease fast, and canopy cleans between full cleans can help.

Plenums and filter housings

A plenum that hasn’t been cleaned for a long time can hold a thick layer of grease. We remove thick grease by hand, then degrease.

Between visits

A little care between visits keeps the system in better shape. Our advice:

  • Avoid harsh scourers that scratch the canopy
  • Check and empty canopy gutters regularly
  • Run the extract the whole time you are cooking
  • Make sure filters sit tight in the housing

We clear away the sheeting, waste grease and water before we leave. Filters are back in place and seated properly, and the kitchen is ready to cook.

A change in how the canopy behaves is worth reporting. It can mean the cooking has changed or the interval is too long, which a grease thickness test can confirm.
