Canopy cleaning for sites in Brenzett

Multi-site and managed buildings

Landlords, managing agents and facilities managers book us, not only the businesses that use the systems. Where a system serves more than one tenant, such as a shared riser, it helps to agree who arranges the work, and we can quote for the whole system.

Keeping records across a portfolio is half the battle. Each visit ends with a dated report and photos, so you can show an insurer or inspector what was done at each site.

Canopy cleaning in Brenzett, done properly

Duct Doctor has cleaned canopies and hoods since 2009. As a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease, we treat the canopy as one part of a whole system, and we’re fully insured, with CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001. The work covers island canopies, baffle filters and grease gutters, and common reasons people get in touch are heavy deposits behind the grease filters and a hood coated in old grease.

For a kitchen in or near Brenzett, the visit is planned around opening hours and the journey, and the clean covers the whole system, as it would anywhere: canopy to discharge, then a TR19® certificate and a photo report.

The report is your system’s health record: a dated account with pictures of everything we did. For TR19® Grease cleans, the certificate comes through the BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite portal, ready for your insurer.

Honest limits

Before you book, it helps to know what’s not included:

  • A canopy undersized for the equipment
  • Ductwork and fans beyond the canopy (those need a full TR19 clean)
  • A fan that cannot pull enough air because it’s worn out

Not sure which it is? You can call 0345 646 2711, or send details by email and we will tell you honestly before booking.

Where we work

  • Island canopies
  • Wall canopies
  • Canopy light fittings
  • Baffle filters
  • Plenum chambers
  • Grease gutters

What we do, step by step

Night work is normal for us. A lot of visits happen overnight or at weekends, so the site can open as normal afterwards. On site, the work takes an hour or two for one small canopy, longer where there are several. Somewhere as small as Brenzett, the date and timings are agreed with you well before the day.

  1. We look at the canopy, filters and troughs first.
  2. Out of hours, the range is switched off, cooled and covered.
  3. With the filters removed, the plenum and filter channels are cleaned.
  4. The canopy shell, seams, troughs and gutters are degreased inside and out.
  5. We put the filters back, tidy up and photograph the finished canopy.

Preparing for the visit

  • Make sure someone can let us in and lock up afterwards
  • Let us know how we reach the system, including roofs, risers and plant rooms
  • Tell us the best time to work, such as after service or at a weekend

Advice

What the work involves, part by part

Grease troughs and gutters

A blocked or full trough is the usual cause of grease dripping from the canopy. We clean it out so the grease has somewhere to go.

School and staff canteen kitchens

Canteens and school kitchens tend to run to a timetable, which makes a canopy clean easy to schedule. We often clean them in holidays or at weekends.

Grease, kitchens and Brenzett

The Food Standards Agency lists about 3 pubs and bars as registered food businesses within roughly a mile and a half of the centre of Brenzett. Any of them serving cooked food has an extract to keep clean, from canopy to discharge. Food hygiene inspections in Brenzett are the job of Folkestone and Hythe council’s environmental health team. A greasy canopy or dripping filters are the sort of thing an inspection can pick up. A dated certificate in the maintenance file answers the question before it’s asked. The fire and rescue service for Brenzett is Kent Fire and Rescue Service. Fire and rescue authorities enforce the Fire Safety Order in most non-domestic premises, and in a kitchen that fire risk includes the grease in the extract.

Where a hall near St Eanswith's Church, or anywhere in Brenzett, hosts lunch clubs or events, its extract gathers grease just as a café’s does.

Common problems we fix in Brenzett

The canopy takes the hottest, wettest air in the kitchen. Grease from the vapour lands on the canopy’s inner surfaces, its joints and its filters, and the plenum behind them collects the rest.

Keep an eye out for these warning signs:

  • Heavy deposits behind the grease filters
  • Fat running down the front of the hood
  • Wet, greasy drips from the hood
  • Smoke hanging around the canopy during service

Bursars and site managers at schools such as Brenzett Church of England Primary School tend to book extract cleaning for when the kitchen is empty.

Before booking anyone

  • What hours they’ll be on site
  • Whether the whole system is included, or only the parts that are easy to reach
  • Proof of accreditation you can verify

Keeping the system healthy

Once we’ve finished, these simple steps help:

  • Refit filters the right way round and fully seated
  • Flag any change in how the canopy behaves
  • Keep filters on a set cleaning routine
  • Keep every filter in place while cooking

We point out anything we noticed while the canopy was apart: damaged filters, gaps around the housing or troughs that need emptying more often. It’s a short list of what to watch, not a sales pitch.

Clean filters are the canopy’s first defence. Keep them on a regular cleaning or exchange cycle, and make sure they’re all in place before cooking. The plenum behind them stays cleaner.

FAQs for Brenzett

Who inspects food businesses in Brenzett?

In Brenzett, it’s Folkestone and Hythe council that carries out food hygiene inspections. How often a business is inspected depends on the risk rating the council gives it, so it’s worth staying ready all year.

Can you get to a site in Brenzett?

Yes, Brenzett is part of our area, however small the site. The journey is planned ahead, so a few details about the route help.

Why is my canopy dripping grease?

Usually because the troughs or gutters are full, or the plenum is overloaded. Grease has nowhere else to go, so it runs down and drips, and condensation can carry it too. A canopy clean sorts it out.

How much does canopy cleaning cost in Brenzett?

There’s no set price, as it depends on the job: how big it is, what state it’s in, how we reach it and the working hours. You get a fixed price before any work starts.

How long does canopy cleaning take?

Size and build-up decide it. As a guide, it takes a few hours, depending on the size of the canopy and how much grease has built up.

When do you clean the canopy?

Out-of-hours cleans are how we work, at night, early in the morning or at weekends. The kitchen is handed back ready to cook.

What if parts of the system cannot be reached?

Anything we cannot reach goes on the report, with photos where possible, and we tell you what would make it reachable, for example new access panels.

Do you have a 24/7 line?

Yes, 24/7. Office hours are Monday to Friday, 8am to 6pm, and the emergency line covers the rest.

What staff can safely do

Staff cleaning and specialist work aren’t the same thing. A daily filter wipe and a weekly filter wash keep grease down at the front of the system, but they don’t reach the grease that builds up further in. Reaching it takes a specialist with the right equipment.

Good housekeeping makes our visits easier, not unnecessary. Clean filters and tidy surfaces slow the build-up, but hidden parts of the system still need specialist attention.
