Greater London · Canopy and hood cleaning
Hither Green canopy cleaning
Our technicians work in Hither Green on canopy and hood cleaning. Out-of-hours visits, a fixed quote and a written report with pictures as standard.
- Condensation running down the canopy
- A hood coated in old grease
- Poor capture at the hood
Landlords, agents and facilities managers
We work for landlords, managing agents and facilities managers as well as the people running the site. Where a system serves more than one tenant, such as a shared riser, it helps to agree who arranges the work, and we can quote for the whole system.
Whether it’s one building or many, the standard is the same: diagnosis, a fixed price, work booked around your hours and a written report with pictures.
Canopy cleaning in Hither Green
We’ve been cleaning kitchen canopies since we started trading in 2009. As a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease, we treat the canopy as one part of a whole system, and we hold CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001. We’re often asked to deal with smoke hanging around the canopy during service and grease channels that no longer drain, across wall canopies, plenum chambers and canopy light fittings.
London kitchens are often tucked into basements or the back of a building, and the duct may run up through several floors before it discharges at the roof. For a kitchen in Hither Green, that typically means a longer system to clean and more access panels to plan around.
The paperwork matters as much as the work. Each visit is written up with photos, covering the work done, any areas we couldn’t access and a recommended next date. File it in your maintenance log so it’s ready for an insurer, fire officer or EHO.

Common problems we fix in Hither Green
Most canopies have troughs or channels that catch running grease. If they’re not emptied, they fill and overflow, so fat ends up running down the front of the hood.
Signs it’s time to call us include:
- Greasy streaks across the canopy
- Grease channels that no longer drain
- Wet, greasy drips from the hood
- A canopy that no longer draws the smoke away
If you run a church or community hall kitchen, near Church of St Swithun or elsewhere in Hither Green, its extract still collects grease from every lunch and event.
What to look for in a quote
- Their accreditations, such as BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite, CHAS or SafeContractor
- Whether a written report and pictures are included
- Exactly which parts of the system are covered
- If they look at the system before pricing
Why it’s worth doing now in Hither Green
For a kitchen in Hither Green, a canopy that looks greasy can colour a whole inspection. Keeping it clean shows the rest of the kitchen is being looked after, and it’s far easier to keep clean than to rescue. Planning ahead in Hither Green lets you pick a quiet night rather than lose a busy one.
Combining work into one visit or one programme can make for a more efficient booking. Mention every system or site you need covered and we will price it together.

What the work involves, part by part
Grease troughs and gutters
Where a trough drains into a grease cup, that’s emptied and cleaned too, and we’ll show staff where it is.
Plenums and filter housings
Behind neglected filters, the plenum can be heavily coated. We remove thick grease by hand, then degrease.
How the visit works
Your staff do not need to do much on the day. A contact on site lets us in at the agreed time and points us to the system, and we take it from there. Afterwards, the area is left tidy and the written report follows. In a London area like Hither Green, parking, loading and building access are planned before the day of the work.
- First the canopy is surveyed, by pictures or in person.
- Cooking equipment is left to cool and the area under the canopy protected.
- We remove the grease filters and clean the plenum and filter housing.
- Inside and out, the canopy and its grease channels are degreased.
- We refit the filters, clear up and photograph the finished canopy.
Preparing for the visit
- Tell us about access, such as roof hatches, plant rooms, ceilings or locked areas
- Allow time for equipment near the work to be turned off and cool down
- Make sure someone can let us in and lock up afterwards
How to get a quote
Quoting starts with a diagnosis, either from pictures and details you send or from a site visit. After that, you get a fixed price for the work so you know the cost before we start.

Grease, kitchens and Hither Green
There are about 279 cafés, restaurants and staff canteens and about 145 takeaways and sandwich shops within 1.5 miles or so of the middle of Hither Green, according to the Food Standards Agency’s register. Every kitchen among them that cooks under a canopy has a hood, plenum and filters collecting grease. In London, kitchens are typically cleaned overnight, when the kitchen is closed and loading is easier. Fire safety in Hither Green falls to London Fire Brigade. Grease in a kitchen extract is a recognised fire risk, and the fire authority enforces the law on managing it in most commercial premises.

Questions from Hither Green
Do you clean school canteen extracts around Hither Green out of term?
Yes. Half-terms and the summer break are the natural time for school work. With about 38 schools and colleges on the FSA’s register within roughly a mile and a half of Hither Green, it pays to plan holiday dates ahead. You can call 0345 646 2711 or send us an email with the dates the site is empty.
Do you work at weekends in Hither Green?
Yes, out-of-hours work is a big part of what we do. The work in Hither Green can fit around your hours. Tell us your opening hours when you ask for a quote.
Do you clean the grease filters as part of a canopy clean?
Filters are removed so we can clean the plenum and housing, then cleaned and refitted. We also offer a filter exchange service for between cleans.
What do you need from me for a quote?
A short description and a few photos, with the address and opening hours. We will ask for anything else we need.
Do you provide pictures of the cleaned canopy?
Before and after pictures go into a report, listing what was cleaned. A full TR19 clean adds a certificate from the BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite portal.
Does a canopy clean meet TR19?
TR19® Grease is about the whole extract, from canopy to discharge. A canopy clean helps between full cleans, but the ducts and fan still need doing, and the report will say what was covered.
Why does grease run off the canopy edge?
Normally because the troughs or gutters are full, or the plenum is overloaded. With nowhere to collect, the grease overflows, and condensation can carry it too. Cleaning the canopy and plenum clears it.
What kinds of canopies do you clean?
Wall canopies, island canopies and single hoods over individual appliances. Each one is cleaned inside and out, with the plenum behind the filters.

When it’s something else
A few issues sit outside what this work can do:
- Ductwork and fans beyond the canopy (those need a full TR19 clean)
- Faulty canopy lights or wiring (a job for an electrician)
- A canopy undersized for the equipment
If you’re not sure, just call us on 0345 646 2711, or send details by email and we will give you a straight answer.

Between visits
Think of this as the after-treatment advice, short and simple:
- Keep filters on a set cleaning routine
- Report new drips or smells from the canopy
- Keep grease cups and drawers emptied
- Clean the hood’s outer surfaces daily
A full system clean comes with a TR19 certificate from the BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite portal. If the job covers only the canopy, the paperwork reflects that.
A daily wipe of the hood keeps fresh grease from baking on. It doesn’t reach the plenum, but it stops the outside building up.
