Canopy cleaning in Gallows Corner

Canopy cleaning in Gallows Corner

We have been cleaning kitchen canopies since we started trading in 2009. We’re a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease, and we’re fully insured, with CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001. The work covers canopy light fittings, grease gutters and wall canopies, and people most often call us about fat running down the front of the hood and wet, greasy drips from the hood.

Across London, many commercial kitchens are squeezed into basements and narrow back-of-house spaces, and the duct may run up through several floors before it discharges at the roof. For a kitchen in Gallows Corner, that typically means a longer system to clean and more access panels to plan around.

Every visit ends with a written report and photos, so you have a record of what was done and when. Where the work is a TR19® Grease clean, the certificate is issued through the BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite portal.

What affects the quote in Gallows Corner

The diagnosis comes before the price. The main factors are:

  • Working hours and out-of-hours timing
  • The condition of the system
  • Whether we need access equipment or extra panels
  • A single visit or a regular plan

A single site or a whole portfolio, the quote is built the same way: the work involved, the access and the timing. The price is fixed before any work starts.

What to send for a quote

What to send for a quote:

  • Anything you’ve noticed, such as smells, noise, drips or poor airflow
  • Any access panels or hatches you can see
  • The roof, plant room or outside wall the system runs to
  • The postcode and the type of business

To help us quote: the address, the type of site and when it’s open, photos of the system and any previous report or certificate. Once you have those, phone us on 0345 646 2711, or email photos.

Gallows Corner: your questions answered

Do you work overnight in Gallows Corner?

Yes, nights and weekends are routine for us. The work in Gallows Corner can fit around your hours. Let us know the hours you are closed and we will book within them.

Which environmental health team covers Gallows Corner?

In Gallows Corner, it’s Havering council that carries out food hygiene inspections. Ratings are published by the Food Standards Agency, so a clean extract and good records are worth keeping up.

Are you insured?

Yes. Full insurance covers our work and have been trading since 2009.

Do you offer emergency callouts?

Yes, day and night, every day of the year. Office hours are Monday to Friday, 8am to 6pm, and the emergency line covers the rest.

Do you work with multi-site operators?

Yes. One number covers all your sites across London and the South East, with visits on a regular schedule.

Which sectors do you work in?

Restaurants and pubs, hotels, schools and colleges, hospitals and care homes, offices and retail, plus food production and leisure sites.

How much does canopy cleaning cost?

The cost depends on the size of the system, its condition, access and timing. Call for a fixed quote, typically ready within one working day.

What happens to the waste?

It leaves the site with us at the end of the visit. While we work, it’s kept contained so the area stays clean.

Landlords, agents and facilities managers

If you look after several sites, we can plan visits across the whole estate and price them together. Each site gets its own report and photos, so each one has its own record.

Landlords, managing agents and facilities managers book us, not only the businesses that use the systems. Where a system serves more than one tenant, such as a shared riser, it helps to agree who arranges the work, and we are happy to quote for all of it.

The process

Your trading hours come first. We book the visit for a time the area is closed, whether that’s an evening, overnight or a weekend. When the team arrives, the work area is protected and the relevant equipment is switched off to cool, and the work takes a few hours, depending on the size of the canopy and how much grease has built up. In Gallows Corner, as across London, we typically work overnight or at weekends and hand the site back ready to open.

  1. First the canopy is surveyed, by pictures or in person.
  2. Cooking equipment is left to cool and the area under the canopy protected.
  3. With the filters out, the plenum and housing are cleaned back.
  4. We degrease the canopy shell, its seams and the grease troughs.
  5. We refit the filters, clear up and photograph the finished canopy.

Before we arrive

  • Have your last certificate or report to hand
  • Tell us about site rules, permits or sign-in
  • Tell us about access, such as roof hatches, plant rooms, ceilings or locked areas

Getting a quote

Photos are the quickest way to a quote: the system from a couple of angles, plus any access panels or hatches. Add the site type and your opening hours, and we can price many jobs without a visit.

Why deal with it now?

Getting the canopy cleaned in Gallows Corner now saves a bigger job later. The work takes an hour or two for one small canopy, longer where there are several, out of hours so service carries on. Left alone, grease keeps moving into the plenum and duct. It’s better booked as a planned job in Gallows Corner than handled as an emergency.

You won’t find a price list here, because the cost depends on the site in front of us. Call for a fixed quote, and we will explain what it covers.

Why book with us

  • Fixed quotes, normally within one working day
  • A written report with photos after each visit
  • Out-of-hours work and a 24/7 emergency line
  • Survey first, then a fixed quote

In-house cleaning or a specialist?

Day-to-day cleaning is something your team can do: wiping canopies, washing grease filters and recording it in a log. What they can’t safely do is clean inside the ductwork, the fan or the risers, and that’s where we come in.

Some jobs should never be done in-house: opening up ductwork, cleaning fans, drop testing fire dampers and measuring grease call for the right kit, training and safe access. Leave those to us.

Between visits

Once we’ve finished, these simple steps help:

  • Report new drips or smells from the canopy
  • Use non-abrasive cloths on the hood
  • Empty the grease troughs before they fill
  • Keep the fan on through service

File the report alongside your fire risk assessment, so it’s ready when an EHO, insurer or fire officer asks. Before and after pictures speak for themselves.

Don’t let canopy gutters fill to the brim. Overflowing troughs are the usual cause of drips onto the range, so make emptying them part of the closing routine.

Grease, kitchens and Gallows Corner

Food Standards Agency records include about 16 pubs, bars and clubs and about 3 hotels and guest houses in Gallows Corner and the streets around it, up to about 1.5 miles out. Wherever they cook, the canopy, duct and fan collect grease just as a restaurant’s do. Night work suits London kitchens, and roads and loading bays tend to be quieter too. In Gallows Corner, food businesses are inspected by environmental health officers from Havering council. An officer looking round a kitchen will see the canopy, and grease there is hard to miss. Before-and-after pictures from each clean are a simple way to show the extract is in hand.

A hall kitchen that only cooks for events, whether near St Michael and All Angels Church or elsewhere in Gallows Corner, still needs its extract cleaned, just less often. School kitchens, at schools like Royal Liberty School for example, are normally cleaned in the holidays so no lunches are lost. Healthcare kitchens, like those at hospitals such as Harold Wood Hospital (about 0.6 miles east), often cook for long hours, which puts them in BESA’s heavier-use bands.

What canopy cleaning cannot fix

A few issues sit outside what this work can do:

  • Grease in the duct runs and risers behind the canopy
  • Grease filters too damaged to refit (they need replacing)
  • Faulty canopy lights or wiring (a job for an electrician)

Not sure which it is? You can give us a ring on 0345 646 2711, or send details by email and we will tell you honestly.
