Canopy cleaning near Dunbridge

Canopy cleaning in Dunbridge, done properly

We’ve been cleaning kitchen canopies since we started trading in 2009. As a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease, we treat the canopy as one part of a whole system, and we are fully insured, with CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001. If you have fat running down the front of the hood and condensation and grease dripping together, we can help, from island canopies, canopy light fittings and grease gutters onwards.

For a kitchen in or near Dunbridge, the visit is planned around opening hours and the journey, and the clean covers the whole system, as it would anywhere: canopy, filters, duct, fan and discharge, with a certificate and photo report at the end.

Insurers, fire officers and environmental health officers all look at records. So every job comes with a written report and pictures, and grease extract cleans come with a TR19® certificate issued through the BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite portal.

What happens if it’s left?

When grease clogs the filters and plenum, the canopy cannot draw air as it should. Smoke and heat hang around the cooking line while the fan strains. Cleaning restores the path the air should take. Out of sight is the usual reason a rural system goes too long without attention.

We don’t list prices on the website, because the cost depends on the site in front of us. Call for a fixed quote, and we’ll explain what it covers.

Why book with us

  • Accredited under CHAS and SafeContractor, with ISO 9001
  • Survey first, then a fixed quote
  • We’re fully insured
  • Fixed quotes, typically within one working day

Kitchen extracts in Dunbridge

The FSA’s data shows about 4 pubs, bars and clubs registered in Dunbridge and the streets around it, up to about 1.5 miles out. Where they serve hot food, their kitchen extracts need cleaning to TR19® like any restaurant’s. Environmental health officers from Test Valley council inspect food businesses in Dunbridge. The cleanliness of the kitchen and its equipment, extraction included, is part of what they check. A dated certificate in the maintenance file answers the question before it’s asked. Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service covers Dunbridge. Fire and rescue authorities enforce the Fire Safety Order in most non-domestic premises, and in a kitchen that fire risk includes the grease in the extract.

Volunteers running a hall kitchen near Church of St Andrew, or anywhere in Dunbridge, may not know when the extract was last cleaned, and a grease test settles it. For schools such as Awbridge Primary School, kitchen extract cleaning is typically booked for the holidays, when the canteen is closed.

How the visit works

We work around your opening hours, not the other way round. We book the visit for a time the area is closed, whether that’s an evening, overnight or a weekend. Once we are in, the area is sheeted and anything that has to be off is turned off and cooled, and the job takes an hour or two for one small canopy, longer where there are several. Visits to a village like Dunbridge are booked in advance, at a time that suits whoever runs the site.

  1. First the canopy is surveyed, by photos or in person.
  2. Cooking equipment is left to cool and the area under the canopy protected.
  3. Filters come out and the plenum behind them is scraped and degreased.
  4. We degrease the canopy shell, its seams and the grease troughs.
  5. Filters go back, the area is cleaned down and pictures are taken.

Advice

Keeping the system healthy

A little care between visits keeps the system in better shape. We recommend:

  • Report new drips or smells from the canopy
  • Check filters are not leaving gaps
  • Wipe the canopy down at close every day
  • Clean the baffle filters often

We recommend when the canopy, or the whole system, should next be cleaned. It reflects how long the kitchen cooks and how much grease we removed, in line with BESA guidance.

Run the extract for as long as anything is cooking. Turning the fan off early lets vapour settle on the hood.

Do you need canopy cleaning in Dunbridge?

Most canopies have troughs or channels that catch running grease. Left to fill up, they spill over, and grease ends up dripping from the canopy edge.

Clients typically contact us when they notice one of these:

  • A greasy hood noticed by an inspector
  • Smoke hanging around the canopy during service
  • Fat running down the front of the hood
  • Condensation running down the canopy

Healthcare kitchens, like those at hospitals such as Romsey Community Hospital (about 3.9 miles south-east), often cook for long hours, which puts them in BESA’s heavier-use bands.

Questions to ask before booking

  • Whether the whole system is included, or only the parts that are easy to reach
  • What records you’ll receive afterwards
  • Whether they’re fully insured
  • What hours they’ll be on site

What affects the quote in Dunbridge

The survey tells us what the work involves. We look at:

  • When the work can happen, such as evenings, overnight or weekends
  • A single visit or a regular plan
  • How many systems or sites are involved
  • Any permits to work or inductions

Putting the work off seldom saves money. Problems in a system tend to grow, and a neglected system can mean more work. If you are unsure, call us on 0345 646 2711, or email photos for straight advice and a fixed quote.

Asking for a quote

The more you tell us, the more accurate the quote. With your enquiry, please include:

  • A few general shots of the system
  • Your opening hours and when the area is out of use
  • Close-ups of filters, grilles, hatches or access panels
  • Where the site is and what kind of site it is

There’s no standard price list, because every site is different. We look at your system first, from pictures or on a visit, then send a fixed quote. To start, phone us on 0345 646 2711 or drop us a line.

What your team can do, and what needs us

Your own staff can handle the daily basics: wiping down canopy surfaces, cleaning filters and keeping a simple log. What they can’t safely do is clean inside the ductwork, the fan or the risers, and that is where we come in.

Logging matters as much as cleaning. A simple log of filter washes, wipe-downs and checks helps show that the system is managed between specialist visits, next to our reports.

Dunbridge questions

Can the work in Dunbridge be done at night or at weekends?

Yes, out-of-hours work is a big part of what we do. Your customers, staff or residents in Dunbridge needn’t be disturbed. Let us know the hours you are closed and we will book within them.

Who enforces fire safety at workplaces in Dunbridge?

Dunbridge is in the area of Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service. TR19® is not law, but it’s the benchmark many fire officers and insurers look to when they ask how often the extract is cleaned.

Where does the waste go?

We contain it and take it with us. We collect grease, debris and waste water as we go rather than letting it spread.

What happens if you cannot reach some of it?

We never leave them off the paperwork. The report says which parts couldn’t be reached and why, along with a quote to put access in.

Are you insured?

Yes. We carry full insurance and have been trading since 2009.

How much notice should we give?

Earlier is better, especially for out-of-hours work. Quotes typically come back within one working day, and emergencies are covered by our 24/7 line.

Do you provide pictures of the cleaned canopy?

Photos of the canopy and plenum before and after. The report includes a recommended next clean date.

Which kinds of sites do you work on?

Any commercial site with kitchens or ventilation, from a single café to a large school. We work with hotels, schools, care homes, offices, retail and leisure sites.

Different parts, different methods

Island canopies

Island canopies hang over cooking in the middle of the kitchen, so every face can collect grease. Each face is cleaned inside and out.

Plenums and filter housings

Filter housings hold the filters in place, and their channels fill with grease. We clean them so the filters sit tight and leave no gaps.
