Canopy cleaning in Broughton Crossing

Duct Doctor has cleaned canopies and hoods since 2009. As a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease, we treat the canopy as one part of a whole system, and we are fully insured, with CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001. We’re often asked to deal with a plenum thick with grease behind the filters and fat running down the front of the hood, across wall canopies, canopy light fittings and baffle filters.

In a village or hamlet like Broughton Crossing, the kitchens that need extract cleaning are typically a pub, a school, a care home or a hall kitchen, wherever there is one. Each still has a canopy and duct that collect grease.

For insurers and inspectors, the record counts. That is why every job is written up in a report with photos, plus a TR19® certificate through the BESCA VHE portal where the work is a TR19® Grease clean.

How the visit works

We turn up at the time agreed with you, often in the evening, overnight or at the weekend so the site keeps working. Anything that needs to be off for the work is switched off and left to cool first, and floors and nearby surfaces are sheeted. On site, it takes part of a shift for most kitchens, more where there are several canopies or heavy deposits. Pictures of the system and its access let us plan the work in Broughton Crossing before we set off.

  1. We look at the canopy first, from pictures or on a visit.
  2. The range is turned off and allowed to cool before we cover it.
  3. With the filters out, the plenum and housing are cleaned back.
  4. Inside and out, the canopy and its grease channels are degreased.
  5. Clean filters are refitted and before and after pictures go into your report.

Preparing for the visit

  • Tell us where we can park and unload
  • Let us know when the site is closed or quiet
  • Clear the space around the work

How to get a quote

Photos are enough for some jobs, while others need a look on site. Big or complicated sites, and systems that are hard to see in pictures, get a survey first. Either way, you get a fixed price before work begins.

Staff cleaning versus specialist work

Logging matters as much as cleaning. A dated log of in-house cleaning and checks shows an inspector that the system is looked after between visits, next to our reports.

Good housekeeping makes our visits easier, not unnecessary. Clean filters and tidy surfaces slow the build-up, but the parts you cannot see still need a specialist at the right interval.

Broughton Crossing kitchens: local notes

The FSA’s food hygiene register includes about 28 bars, pubs and nightclubs within 1.5 miles or so of the middle of Broughton Crossing. Wherever they cook, the canopy, duct and fan collect grease just as a restaurant’s do. Broughton Crossing sits within the area of Buckinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service. Fire and rescue authorities enforce the Fire Safety Order in most non-domestic premises, and in a kitchen that fire risk includes the grease in the extract. It’s Buckinghamshire council that sends environmental health officers to food businesses in Broughton Crossing. A greasy canopy or dripping filters are the sort of thing an inspection can pick up. Keeping each certificate and photo report on file helps show the extract is looked after.

Volunteers running a hall kitchen near Church of St James, or anywhere in Broughton Crossing, may not know when the extract was last cleaned, and a grease test settles it. Bursars and site managers at schools such as Bierton Church of England Combined School tend to book extract cleaning for when the kitchen is empty. Healthcare kitchens can’t easily close, so their extracts are cleaned overnight or between meal services; the nearest hospital to Broughton Crossing is Tindal Centre, about 0.8 miles west.

Broughton Crossing is about 1 mile east of Elmhurst, in Buckinghamshire. We carry out canopy cleaning for commercial premises of every kind in Broughton Crossing and the rest of Buckinghamshire. What canopy cleaning can’t fix

Before you book, it helps to know what’s not included:

  • A hood that doesn’t cover the cooking line
  • A fan that cannot pull enough air because it’s worn out
  • Grease filters too damaged to refit (they need replacing)

If in doubt, call 0345 646 2711 or drop us a line and we’ll say what we think.

Where we work

  • Baffle filters
  • Canopy light fittings
  • Wall canopies
  • Island canopies
  • Grease gutters
  • Plenum chambers

Why act early in Broughton Crossing

Baked-on grease gets harder to shift the longer it stays. Over months, the heat hardens it into a stubborn coating, so the longer it’s left, the longer the clean takes. With notice, the visit to Broughton Crossing can be fitted around your bookings and events.

One small site or a whole estate, we price it on the same basis: what needs doing, how we get to it and when. The price is fixed before work begins.

Why book with us

  • Every visit written up, with pictures
  • Member of BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease
  • A fixed price before any work starts
  • A single point of contact for sites across the South East and London

Read our cost guide and our accreditations.

Between visits

How long the results last depends on use and care. We suggest:

  • Leave the extract running until cooking stops
  • Clean the baffle filters often
  • Make sure filters sit tight in the housing
  • Give the canopy a wipe after service

A before and after photo report follows the clean. The report lists what was cleaned and any part we couldn’t get to, so the record is honest and complete.

A change in how the canopy behaves is worth reporting. It can mean the cooking has changed or the interval is too long, which a grease thickness test can confirm.

Broughton Crossing questions

Which fire authority looks after Broughton Crossing?

Fire safety enforcement in Broughton Crossing is handled by Buckinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service. Records of extract cleaning are a sensible thing to have ready if a fire safety officer carries out an audit.

Is Broughton Crossing within the area you cover?

Yes. Villages and rural sites across the South East are part of our work, Broughton Crossing included. Let us know about access, parking and anything unusual about getting there when you book.

Are you fully insured?

Yes. Full insurance covers our work, and we’ve been trading since 2009.

What is TR19?

TR19® is BESA’s specification for ventilation hygiene. TR19® Grease, a standalone specification since 2019, covers grease in kitchen extract systems, and TR19® Air covers general supply and extract systems.

Is the inside of the hood cleaned?

Everything from the outer face to the plenum behind the filters. Grease troughs and filter channels are emptied and degreased as part of the job.

Do you offer maintenance contracts?

Yes. Scheduled maintenance plans are part of what we do, set at the interval the system needs. Each report recommends when the next visit should be.

Does a canopy clean meet TR19?

You can have the canopy cleaned on its own, but it won’t cover the ductwork or fan. TR19 Grease covers everything the grease travels through, at intervals set by BESA guidance.

How much does canopy cleaning cost?

There’s no set price, as it depends on the job: how big it is, what state it’s in, how we reach it and the working hours. We fix the price before we start.

For landlords and multi-site operators

If you look after several sites, we can schedule visits across all of them on one quote. Each site gets its own report and photos, so each one has its own record.

Keeping records across a portfolio is half the battle. Each visit ends with a dated report and pictures, so you can show an insurer or inspector what was done at each site.

How we price canopy cleaning

A fixed price needs a few facts first. We check:

  • When the work can happen, such as evenings, overnight or weekends
  • The condition of the system
  • How big the system is
  • Access, including roofs, risers and ceiling voids

We do not list prices on the website, because each job is priced on what it involves. For a fixed quote, call us on 0345 646 2711 or email us, and we will explain what it covers.

Helping us quote

Photos and a few facts are often enough to price the work. Send what you can of the following:

  • The roof, plant room or outside wall the system runs to
  • Wide pictures of the system and the area around it
  • The times we could work without disrupting the site
  • Anything you’ve noticed, such as smells, noise, drips or poor airflow

Want a quote for canopy cleaning? Please call us on 0345 646 2711 or use the quote form and tell us about the site. We will talk you through the work and give you a fixed quote before anything is booked.
