Canopy cleaning around Bierton

Look up Bierton on the FSA’s food hygiene register and you’ll find about 75 cafés, restaurants and staff canteens and about 41 sandwich bars and takeaways across Bierton and its immediate surroundings (about a mile and a half). Any of those kitchens with a canopy has a hood that needs cleaning inside and out. It’s Buckinghamshire council that sends environmental health officers to food businesses in Bierton. The cleanliness of the kitchen and its equipment, extraction included, is part of what they check. Keeping each certificate and photo report on file helps show the extract is looked after. Bierton is covered by Buckinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service. Fire and rescue authorities enforce the Fire Safety Order in most non-domestic premises, and in a kitchen that fire risk includes the grease in the extract.

If you look after a school kitchen, at a school such as Bierton Church of England Combined School or anywhere near Bierton, the holidays are the usual time for a TR19® clean. A hall kitchen that only cooks for events, whether near Church of St James or elsewhere in Bierton, still needs its extract cleaned, just less often.

Canopy cleaning in Bierton

Duct Doctor has cleaned canopies and hoods since 2009. As a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease, we treat the canopy as one part of a whole system, and we hold CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001. If you have overflowing grease troughs and gutters and a greasy hood noticed by an inspector, we can help, from canopy light fittings, wall canopies and island canopies onwards.

In a small place like Bierton, kitchens are often in older or extended buildings, with long single-storey duct runs, where grease settles in the flat sections. Access, parking and timings are agreed before the day.

The sign-off is always in writing: a dated report with pictures of the work, plus a certificate through the BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite portal when the work is a TR19® Grease clean. Any parts we couldn’t reach are recorded on it too.

Questions from Bierton

Can you work in Bierton outside opening hours?

Yes, evening, overnight and weekend work is normal for us. The site is handed back ready to open. Your opening times are the first thing we ask for.

Is Bierton within the area you cover?

Yes, we work in villages as well as towns, and Bierton is covered. Let us know about access, parking and anything unusual about getting there when you book.

How much does canopy cleaning cost in Bierton?

There’s no set price, as it depends on the job: the size of the system, its condition, access and when we can work. You get a fixed price before we start.

Can we book visits on a schedule?

Yes. Plans on a 3, 6 or 12-monthly cycle are available, depending on what the system needs.

Does a canopy clean meet TR19?

Canopy cleaning is part of TR19, not the whole of it. Your report lists exactly what was cleaned, so your records stay accurate.

Are you insured?

Yes. Full insurance covers our work and have been trading since 2009.

What happens if you can’t reach some of it?

They’re marked on the report. Often the fix is extra access, such as new panels in ductwork, and we can fit those.

Why is my canopy dripping grease?

Grease that builds up inside the canopy has to go somewhere. Once the troughs and plenum are full, it runs down and drips, often mixed with condensation. Cleaning removes the cause.

When something else is needed

An honest diagnosis matters more to us than a booking, so here’s what canopy cleaning won’t do:

  • A hood that doesn’t cover the cooking line
  • Weak extraction caused by a failing fan motor
  • Ductwork and fans beyond the canopy (those need a full TR19 clean)

If you are not sure, just give us a ring on 0345 646 2711 or drop us a line and we’ll give you a straight answer.

What we work on in Bierton

  • Plenum chambers
  • Baffle filters
  • Canopy light fittings
  • Grease gutters
  • Wall canopies
  • Island canopies

Why act early in Bierton

Grease on the canopy is sitting just above the heat source. Flames from the range can ignite it and be pulled further into the system, where a fire is much harder to stop. A clean canopy takes that fuel away. With notice, the visit to Bierton can be fitted around your bookings and events.

Kitchens, offices, schools and hospitals are all priced the same way: how much there is, how we reach it, what state it’s in and when we can work. Call for a fixed quote and we’ll explain each part.

Why us?

  • Fixed quotes, normally within one working day
  • A BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease
  • Survey first, then a fixed quote
  • Every visit written up, with pictures

Different parts, different methods

Plenums and filter housings

Filter housings hold the filters in place, and their channels fill with grease. Clean housings let the filters seat properly and leave no gaps.

Grease troughs and gutters

Where a trough drains into a grease cup, we empty and clean that as well, and we’ll show staff where it is.

How it works

Night work is normal for us. A lot of visits happen overnight or at weekends, so the site can open as normal afterwards. On site, the work takes part of a shift for most kitchens, more where there are several canopies or heavy deposits. We agree a date with you, plan the drive to Bierton and turn up when the site is quiet.

  1. We look at the canopy, filters and troughs first.
  2. Once the kitchen has closed, the cooking line is cooled and sheeted.
  3. With the filters removed, the plenum and filter channels are cleaned.
  4. The canopy shell, seams, troughs and gutters are degreased inside and out.
  5. We put the filters back, tidy up and photograph the finished canopy.

How to prepare

  • Let us know how we reach the system, including roofs, risers and plant rooms
  • Allow time for equipment near the work to be turned off and cool down
  • Arrange a key holder or contact on site

How to get a quote

Photos are enough for some jobs, while others need a look on site. Big or complicated sites, and systems that are hard to see in pictures, get a survey first. Either way, you get a fixed price before we start.

Advice

When to call us in Bierton

Any canopy in Bierton that is used for cooking will gather grease in the end. It’s fuel, sitting directly over the burners, so a flare-up near a greasy hood can quickly become a fire.

The symptoms we are asked about most include:

  • Wet, greasy drips from the hood
  • Drips from the canopy onto the range
  • A greasy hood noticed by an inspector
  • Filters that never seem to stay clean

If you run catering at a healthcare site, such as a hospital like Tindal Centre about 1 mile south-west, the extract may need cleaning more often than a part-time kitchen.

Questions to ask before you book

  • If the quote is a fixed price or an estimate
  • When they can work, and whether that is outside your opening hours
  • Whether they recommend a next date
  • Whether VAT is included

How to choose an extract cleaning contractor

What affects the quote in Bierton

We quote each job individually. These are the things that affect it:

  • The times the site is available
  • The condition we find in the survey
  • How big the system is
  • Whether we need access equipment or extra panels

A single site or a whole portfolio, we price it on the same basis: the work involved, the access and the timing. You will have a fixed price before any work starts.

What to send for a quote

To speed up the quote, send us:

  • When the site is open and when it’s quiet
  • Where the plant sits or the system leaves the building, such as a roof or outside wall
  • The paperwork from the last visit, if you have it
  • Anything you’ve noticed, such as smells, noise, drips or poor airflow

Want a quote for canopy cleaning? Please call us on 0345 646 2711 or use the quote form and tell us about the site. We will talk you through the work and send you a fixed quote before you commit to anything.

In-house cleaning or a specialist?

Keep a record of what your team does. A simple log of filter washes, wipe-downs and checks shows an inspector that the system is looked after between visits, alongside our reports.

Good housekeeping makes our visits easier, not unnecessary. Regular in-house cleaning slows the build-up, but hidden parts of the system still need specialist attention.
