Canopy cleaning across Turnfurlong

Canopy cleaning for kitchens and businesses in Turnfurlong

Canopy cleans are done out of hours: after service, overnight or at the weekend. Cooking equipment is turned off and cooled, then covered so the kitchen is ready when we go. The work covers wall canopies, baffle filters and island canopies, and people most often call us about grease dripping from the canopy edge and a sticky, discoloured canopy.

Size does not change the work: a kitchen in a place like Turnfurlong gets the whole system cleaned, canopy to discharge. We plan the visit around your hours, with the journey sorted in advance.

We’re CHAS and SafeContractor accredited, we hold ISO 9001 and we’re fully insured. We’re also a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease, and we’ve been trading since 2009.

What happens if it’s left?

If the canopy waits for the next full clean, grease keeps adding up. Some kitchens need the canopy cleaning more often than the whole system, and readings or a look behind the filters will show it. It’s better to plan the work at a site near Turnfurlong than wait for a failure.

What you pay reflects the actual work. That is why we survey first, from photos or on site, and why the quote is fixed before work begins.

The process

A visit follows the same order every time: sheeting and protection first, make the system safe, carry out the canopy cleaning, tidy up and hand over the paperwork. On site, the work takes a few hours, depending on the size of the canopy and how much grease has built up. Everything the job in Turnfurlong needs is worked out beforehand, from the survey.

  1. First the canopy is surveyed, by pictures or in person.
  2. Equipment below is switched off and left to cool, then sheeted.
  3. We remove the grease filters and clean the plenum and filter housing.
  4. Inside and out, the canopy and its grease channels are degreased.
  5. Clean filters are refitted and before and after pictures go into your report.

How to prepare

  • Let us know about parking and loading
  • Agree a time when the area can be out of use
  • Make sure equipment near the work can be switched off and left to cool

Advice

Fixed quotes for canopy cleaning in Turnfurlong

Your quote is based on your site. We take into account:

  • What state the system is in
  • One-off work versus a regular cycle
  • The times the site is available
  • Access, including roofs, risers and ceiling voids

The cost depends on how big the system is, what state it’s in and access to every part of it. We give you a fixed price before any work starts, so you know where you stand.

Asking for a quote

What to send for a quote:

  • Close-ups of filters, grilles, hatches or access panels
  • The paperwork from the last visit, if you have it
  • A few general shots of the system
  • Your opening hours and when the area is out of use

To get a fixed quote, call 0345 646 2711 or drop us a line and tell us the type of site, your opening hours and roughly what the system looks like. Photos and the last report, if you have one, make the quote quicker. You’ll usually have a quote within one working day.

What the work involves, part by part

Island canopies

Island canopies often have filters on two sides. Both sides are taken apart and cleaned.

Grease troughs and gutters

Where a trough drains into a grease cup, that’s emptied and cleaned too, and we will show staff where it is.

Questions from Turnfurlong

Do you work at weekends in Turnfurlong?

Yes, evening, overnight and weekend work is normal for us. The site is handed back ready to open. Just call 0345 646 2711 or email us with your opening times and we will plan around them.

Who inspects food businesses in Turnfurlong?

The local authority for Turnfurlong is Buckinghamshire council, and its environmental health team does the inspecting. How often a business is inspected depends on the risk rating the council gives it, so it’s worth staying ready all year.

Will we have to shut during the visit?

Not usually. The area we’re working in has to be out of use while we are there, so we book a time when it would be closed anyway.

Can one contract cover all our sites?

Yes. Our area covers London and the South East, so sites at different addresses can be planned together as one programme. Each site gets its own report and pictures.

Do you cover Turnfurlong?

Yes. We cover Turnfurlong and the rest of Buckinghamshire, within our South East and London area. For a fixed quote, call 0345 646 2711, or send details by email.

Do you have insurance?

Yes. We carry full insurance and have been trading since 2009.

Is canopy cleaning enough for TR19?

A TR19® Grease clean covers the whole system, not just the canopy. Cleaning the canopy alone leaves the ducts, risers and fan untouched, and the report will say what was covered.

Do you clean inside the canopy as well as outside?

Inside and out, along with its seams and grease channels. With the filters out, the plenum and housing are cleaned as well.

Turnfurlong kitchens: local notes

Food Standards Agency data counts about 93 restaurants, cafés and canteens and about 53 takeaways in and around Turnfurlong, up to about a mile and a half out. Each canopy in those kitchens catches grease on the inside of the hood and behind the filters. It’s Buckinghamshire council that sends environmental health officers to food businesses in Turnfurlong. The cleanliness of the kitchen and its equipment, extraction included, is part of what they check. A dated certificate in the maintenance file answers the question before it’s asked. Turnfurlong is covered by Buckinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service. Fire and rescue authorities enforce the Fire Safety Order in most non-domestic premises, and in a kitchen that fire risk includes the grease in the extract.

Church and community hall kitchens, near Holy Trinity or anywhere around Turnfurlong, are easy to forget, but their extracts collect grease like any other. Term dates shape school work: for a school like Turnfurlong Junior School, an extract clean fits neatly into a half-term or summer break.

Keeping the system healthy

No system stays clean for ever, but care slows the build-up. A few tips:

  • Do not scrape the canopy with metal tools
  • Leave the extract running until cooking stops
  • Tell us when the canopy starts to drip
  • Check and empty canopy gutters regularly

File the report alongside your fire risk assessment where an inspector can see it. Before and after photos speak for themselves.

Keep the fan running throughout service and for a short while after. Turning the fan off early lets vapour settle on the hood.

Signs you need canopy cleaning in Turnfurlong

Air straight off the range hits the canopy first. Fat in that air settles on the inside of the hood, in its seams and on the filters before what gets through reaches the plenum.

Most sites get in touch after spotting one of these:

  • Condensation and grease dripping together
  • Poor capture at the hood
  • Filters that clog soon after cleaning
  • A filter housing caked in grease

Healthcare kitchens can’t easily close, so their extracts are cleaned overnight or between meal services; the nearest hospital to Turnfurlong is Stoke Mandeville Hospital, about 0.9 miles south.

Questions to ask before booking

  • Whether the quote is based on a survey or photos
  • Whether the figure could change on the day
  • What records you will receive afterwards
  • Exactly which parts of the system are covered

How to choose an extract cleaning contractor

Staff cleaning versus specialist work

When your team notices a problem between visits, like drips, unusual noise, smells or damaged filters, they should report it rather than try to fix it. We can diagnose it and quote.

Staff cleaning doesn’t replace a specialist visit; it supports it. Clean filters and tidy surfaces slow the build-up, but the parts you can’t see still need a specialist at the right interval.
