How kitchen extract cleaning works in HP22

Every time food is cooked, warm vapour carries fat up into the extract. As it cools, it clings to the inside of the ductwork and keeps building. That film is fuel, and cleaning the whole system is how you keep it under control. We are often asked to deal with heavy grease build-up inside the duct runs and an extract that no longer clears the smoke, across plenums and filters, horizontal duct runs and vertical risers.

We work around your opening hours, not the other way round. Most visits are booked for when the area is out of use, such as evenings, overnight, early mornings or weekends. Once we are in, the area is sheeted and anything that has to be off is turned off and cooled, and the work takes as long as the system needs, from a few hours to several planned visits.

  1. Diagnosis comes first, with a survey of the system and how it’s reached.
  2. We record grease levels at set points, then fix the price.
  3. After the kitchen closes, we sheet the area and set up to contain grease and water.
  4. The treatment: heavy grease scraped out, then every part degreased to TR19® Grease.
  5. The sign-off: post-clean readings, a TR19 certificate and a photo report with the next clean date.

Kitchen extract cleaning across HP22: local notes

Kitchens across HP22 cook for very different hours, from all-day town-centre sites to part-time hall and school kitchens. Grease readings and BESA’s minimum intervals set the schedule for each.

Across London and the South East, we work evenings, overnight and weekends, so sites across HP22 don’t have to lose a day.

Wendover: Kitchens that cook twelve hours or more a day, as some healthcare kitchens do, fall into BESA’s three-monthly minimum; Stoke Mandeville Hospital is the nearest hospital to Wendover, about 3.4 miles north-west. If you cook for passing trade around Wendover station, the extract can be cleaned between your last and first customer.

Multi-site and managed buildings

We work for landlords, managing agents and facilities managers as well as the people running the site. Where a system serves more than one tenant, such as a shared riser, it helps to agree who arranges the work, and we can quote for the whole system.

Facilities teams in offices, schools and healthcare sites book us too in HP22 and across Buckinghamshire. Larger estates can be phased building by building to keep disruption down.

What affects the cost of kitchen extract cleaning

There’s no set price list, because no two systems are the same. The quote depends on:

  • How many systems or sites are involved
  • Site rules, permits and inductions
  • The condition of the system
  • The scale of the work

You will not find a price list here, because each job is priced on what it involves. For a fixed quote, ring 0345 646 2711 or email us, and we’ll talk you through it.

What to send for a quote

We can often survey from photos. The most useful are:

  • Where the plant sits or the system leaves the building, such as a roof or outside wall
  • Problems your staff have spotted
  • The paperwork from the last visit, if you have it
  • Any access panels or hatches you can see

Photos are the quickest way to a quote: the system from a couple of angles, plus any access panels or hatches. Tell us what kind of site it is and when it’s open, and many jobs can be priced from that alone.

When it’s something else

Kitchen extract cleaning cannot fix everything, and we’d rather say so up front. It won’t put right:

  • A fan motor that has burnt out
  • A grease trap that needs emptying
  • A canopy that’s too small or a system that was badly designed

Staff cleaning versus specialist work

Good housekeeping makes our visits easier, not unnecessary. Regular in-house cleaning slows the build-up, but hidden parts of the system still need specialist attention.

Staff cleaning and specialist work are not the same thing. A daily filter wipe and a weekly filter wash keep grease down at the front of the system, but they do not reach the grease that builds up further in. That part needs specialist access and equipment.

Aftercare tips

Looking after the system between visits is straightforward, and it helps at the next visit:

  • Keep the baffle filters clean
  • Clean grease off the canopy surfaces regularly
  • Empty any grease troughs or cups on the canopy
  • Never cook with filters missing or out of place

You leave with a date for the next clean, based on your cooking hours and the grease we measured. A 3, 6 or 12-monthly maintenance plan keeps it on track, so the date isn’t missed.

Keep the fan on throughout service. Cooking with the extract off lets grease and heat settle in the canopy, and the next clean has more to do.

Common questions in HP22

Do you survey before quoting?

Yes. Photos often do the job, while bigger or harder-to-see systems are surveyed on site.

Are you accredited for kitchen extract cleaning?

We clean to BESA TR19® Grease as a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, and certificates go through the BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite portal. Duct Doctor has been trading since 2009.

What does a TR19 kitchen extract clean include?

The whole system: canopy inside and out, plenum, grease filters, ductwork, risers, extract fan and discharge, plus attenuators where fitted. Anything we can’t reach is recorded on the report.

Will the clean disrupt our service?

When the kitchen is closed, at whatever time suits you. We need the equipment cool, and we leave the kitchen ready to cook.

What does TR19 mean?

BESA’s ventilation hygiene specification, with two parts that matter most here: TR19® Grease for kitchen extracts and TR19® Air for supply and extract systems. It is not law, but it’s the benchmark.

Can you quote from photos?

In many cases, yes. Photos of the system and the access, plus your opening hours and last report, are often enough. Larger or hidden systems need a survey on site first.

What do you do to protect the area?

We start with protection: floor sheeting and covers over nearby surfaces and equipment. We tidy up and take our waste away before we leave.
