TR19 inspection for kitchens and businesses in Whitley

Post-clean verification is a check carried out once the cleaning is done, with new readings and photos of the cleaned areas. It gives you evidence of how the system was actually left. The work covers wet film thickness tests, post-clean checks and access surveys, and common reasons people get in touch are heavy grease suspected in the plenum or ducts and kitchens whose menu or hours have changed.

Size doesn’t change the work: a kitchen in a place like Whitley gets the whole system cleaned, canopy to discharge. The visit is booked around your opening hours, and the journey is planned ahead.

We’ve been trading since 2009, as a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease. We also hold CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001, and we carry full insurance.

Staff cleaning versus specialist work

Staff cleaning and specialist work are not the same thing. A daily filter wipe and a weekly filter wash keep grease down at the front of the system, but they don’t reach the grease that builds up further in. That part needs specialist access and equipment.

If your staff spot something between visits, like drips, unusual noise, smells or damaged filters, they should report it rather than try to fix it. We can diagnose it and quote.

Fixed quotes for TR19 inspection in Whitley

The survey tells us what the work involves. The main factors are:

  • How many systems or sites are involved
  • Travel, parking and unloading
  • Whether we need access equipment or extra panels
  • The times the site is available

Putting the work off seldom saves money. Build-up, wear and faults tend to get worse, not better, which can make the next visit longer. If you’re unsure, give us a ring on 0345 646 2711 or use the quote form and we will give you an honest view and a fixed quote.

What we need to know

Many jobs can be priced from pictures and some basics. Useful things to send:

  • Photos showing the whole system and its surroundings
  • Any previous report or certificate
  • Problems your staff have spotted
  • Where the plant sits or the system leaves the building, such as a roof or outside wall

To help us quote: where the site is, what it is and its opening hours, a few pictures and the last certificate or report, if there is one. Once you have those, ring 0345 646 2711 or drop us a line.

Keeping the system healthy

After the visit, a few habits help the work last:

  • Send TR19 audit reports to your insurer on request
  • Wipe the canopy surfaces regularly
  • Report grease dripping from the canopy
  • Tell us if menus or opening hours change

Keep the verification report next to the certificate it relates to. Together they show the system was cleaned and checked.

Keep certificates, reports and readings in one place so you can produce them quickly.

Grease, kitchens and Whitley

Food Standards Agency records list about 61 restaurants, cafés and works canteens and about 29 sandwich bars and takeaways across Whitley and its immediate surroundings (about a mile and a half). Each kitchen extract among them can be measured for grease to set the right cleaning interval. Food hygiene inspections in Whitley are the job of Reading council’s environmental health team. Extraction counts as kitchen equipment, so its condition can come up on the day. A dated certificate in the maintenance file answers the question before it’s asked. Whitley is covered by Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service. In most workplaces, including commercial kitchens, it’s the fire and rescue authority that enforces the Fire Safety Order.

Healthcare kitchens, like those at hospitals such as Royal Berkshire Hospital (about 1.6 miles north), often cook for long hours, which puts them in BESA’s heavier-use bands. If you run a church or community hall kitchen, near St Agnes or elsewhere in Whitley, its extract still collects grease from every lunch and event.

Whitley is about 1 mile west of Earley, in Reading. Anywhere in RG2, we cover TR19 inspection for commercial sites. Whitley is one of 34 towns, villages and districts in Reading we cover for commercial clients.

Every address in RG2, RG1 and RG19 is covered for TR19 inspection, from the main roads to the quietest streets. Whether your site is on Litton Road, Totnes Road and Winton Road or a nearby road, we can help. For landlords and multi-site operators

If you look after several sites, we can schedule visits across all of them on one quote. Every building has its own written report, so records stay tidy.

We regularly work with managing agents. Send the address, what’s needed and how access works and we will come back with a fixed quote.

Questions from Whitley

Is Whitley within the area you cover?

Yes, Whitley is part of our area, however small the site. Photos of the system and directions to the site help us plan the visit.

Can you come to Whitley after we close?

Yes, nights and weekends are routine for us. It means the site in Whitley keeps running as normal. Tell us your opening hours when you ask for a quote.

What accreditations do you have?

Duct Doctor is a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease. We also hold CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001, and we carry full insurance.

What information do you need?

Only a few details: where it is, what kind of site, when it’s open and the access. Photos and the last report help too. After that, simply call us on 0345 646 2711 or drop us a line.

What types of premises do you cover?

We work for restaurants, pubs, hotels, schools, colleges, hospitals, care homes, offices and shops, plus food production and leisure sites.

Do we have to follow TR19 by law?

No. TR19® is not law; it’s BESA’s specification. The legal duty comes from the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, which requires the responsible person to reduce fire risk, and TR19® is what insurers and fire officers look to.

How often should grease be tested?

We suggest a next test date in every report, based on the readings and how the kitchen is used. A risk assessment based on measured grease should set the interval.

Can you price the work without visiting?

Yes, where the photos show enough. If not, a site survey comes first, then a fixed quote.

The process

There are three stages on the day: getting the area ready, doing the work and signing it off. Set-up means sheeting and making equipment safe, while signing off means the written report and photos. The middle part takes longest, which takes anything from an hour for a small canopy and short duct to a good part of a day for a large site. Because the survey comes first, a visit to Whitley can usually be finished without a second trip.

  1. We go through any past certificates and reports.
  2. The layout is traced from the canopy to the discharge.
  3. Access panels are located and any missing ones noted.
  4. We measure the grease and photograph each point.
  5. We report back with readings and a fixed quote.

Preparing for the visit

  • Tell us the best time to work, such as after service or at a weekend
  • Mention any sign-in, permit or induction we need
  • Mention any locked doors, roof access or ceiling voids

Getting a quote

Some systems can be priced from pictures; others need a survey. Larger sites, and anything hidden behind walls, ceilings or floors, are normally surveyed first. Either way, the quote is fixed before any work is booked.

What a clean will not put right

It’s worth knowing the limits before booking:

  • Design faults in the extract system
  • Removing the grease, which is a separate clean
  • Mechanical faults in the extract

If in doubt, call 0345 646 2711 or send us an email and we’ll say what we think before you book.

What the work covers

  • Wet film thickness tests
  • Post-clean checks
  • Deposit thickness tests
  • Insurer audits
  • Pre-clean surveys
  • Access surveys

When to call us in Whitley

Kitchens change: a new menu, longer hours or more frying can all add grease. The old cleaning schedule may not match the kitchen any more.

Any of these means the system needs a check-up:

  • Kitchen extract systems with no recent grease readings
  • Surveys needed before quoting a full clean
  • Cleaning intervals that may not suit the kitchen
  • Parts of the system left out of past cleans

School kitchens, at schools like John Madejski Academy for example, are usually cleaned in the holidays so no lunches are lost.

What to look for in a quote

  • Which accreditations they hold, and whether you can check them
  • What happens if part of the system can’t be accessed
  • When they can work, and whether that is outside your opening hours
  • How they set the interval to the next visit
