Vertical risers

Risers in multi-storey buildings can pass through other areas, so access is planned in advance.

Extract fan and discharge

A greasy fan works harder and wears faster. The inspection shows whether it needs cleaning now.

About our TR19 inspection in Tilgate

A pre-clean survey is the diagnosis, and the clean is the treatment. We look at the system, take grease readings and photograph what we find, so the clean can be planned properly. The work covers insurer audits, post-clean checks and wet film thickness tests, and people most often call us about heavy grease suspected in the plenum or ducts and sites with gaps in their extract records.

For a smaller kitchen near Tilgate, a TR19® clean is the same job as anywhere: canopy, filters, plenum, duct, fan and discharge. The visit is booked around your opening hours, and the journey is planned ahead.

Accreditations are easy to claim and worth checking. We’re a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease, and we hold CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001, with full insurance on top.

For landlords and multi-site operators

For anyone managing more than one site, we can schedule visits across all of them on one quote. Each site gets its own report and photos, so records stay tidy.

We work for landlords, managing agents and facilities managers as well as the people running the site. Shared systems, like a riser serving several units, need a clear agreement on who books the work, and we can quote for the whole system.

Tilgate: your questions answered

Do you cover smaller places like Tilgate?

Yes, Tilgate is part of our area, however small the site. Just mention lanes, gates or anything else about the site when you book.

Who carries out food hygiene inspections in Tilgate?

The local authority for Tilgate is Crawley council, and its environmental health team does the inspecting. Have your latest TR19® certificate and photo report to hand, as an officer may ask how the extract is maintained.

Is TR19 a legal requirement?

No, not in itself. The Fire Safety Order 2005 still requires the responsible person to manage fire risk, and grease in the extract is part of that. Many insurance policies also require TR19 adherence.

What should I send you?

Only a few details: the address, the site type, your opening hours and how we reach the system. Photos and any previous paperwork make it quicker. After that, simply phone us on 0345 646 2711, or send details by email.

Do you work with multi-site operators?

Yes. You deal with one contact for every site across London and the South East, with visits on a regular schedule.

Is a quote from photos possible?

In many cases, yes. With good pictures, the site type and your last report, we can price many jobs. Where we cannot see enough, we arrange a survey.

How often should grease be tested?

Each report recommends when to test and clean next, taking the readings and the kitchen’s hours into account. A risk assessment based on measured grease should set the interval.

What grease levels does TR19 allow?

Under TR19® Grease, the mean thickness should not exceed 200 microns between cleans. 500 microns or more at any point calls for immediate spot cleaning.

Looking after it afterwards

Once we’ve finished, these simple steps help:

  • Keep to the recommended interval
  • File every inspection report with your certificates
  • Report grease dripping from the canopy
  • Wipe the canopy surfaces regularly

The audit report is set out to pass straight to your insurer or broker, with readings, pictures and any areas not accessible.

Revisit the cleaning interval whenever the menu or hours change. Fresh readings show whether it needs to change.

How it works

Night work is normal for us. Evenings, nights and weekends are when much of our work happens, so a kitchen or building can carry on as usual the next day. On site, the work takes around an hour or two per canopy and duct system. For a site near Tilgate, the work is booked around your opening hours, evenings and weekends included.

  1. We agree a time when the kitchen is closed or quiet.
  2. Every part of the system is examined, end to end.
  3. We take WFTT or DTT readings at set points along the system.
  4. Each test point and any access problems are photographed.
  5. You get a report with readings, photos and recommendations.

Before we arrive

  • Arrange a key holder or contact on site
  • Tell us the best time to work, such as after service or at a weekend
  • Have your last certificate or report to hand

How to get a quote

Every quote begins with a look at the system, either from pictures and details you send or from a site visit. After that, you get a fixed price for the work so you know the cost before we start.

When to call us in Tilgate

Not every section of a kitchen extract is easy to get to, and grease can be missed there clean after clean. A survey finds the sections that cannot be reached, so the gaps can be closed.

Look out for any of the following:

  • Insurance renewals needing proof of TR19 cleaning
  • Kitchens whose menu or hours have changed
  • Parts of the system left out of past cleans
  • Extracts that have never been grease tested

Healthcare kitchens can’t easily close, so their extracts are cleaned overnight or between meal services; the nearest hospital to Tilgate is Crawley Hospital, about 1.2 miles north-west.

Before booking anyone

  • Whether the work can be done while the site is closed
  • Whether a written report and pictures are included
  • Whether VAT is included
  • Whether a survey comes first

Our hiring checklist

Staff cleaning versus specialist work

Staff cleaning and specialist work are not the same thing. A daily filter wipe and a weekly filter wash keep grease down at the front of the system, but they do not reach the grease that builds up further in. That part needs specialist access and equipment.

Logging matters as much as cleaning. A dated log of in-house cleaning and checks shows an inspector that the system is looked after between visits, next to our reports.

Leave it or put it right?

If there’s a fire or a claim, your insurer may ask for TR19 records. Without them, a claim can be reduced or refused. An up-to-date inspection report is a good place to start. When a site near Tilgate shuts unexpectedly, the people who rely on it notice at once.

We don’t list prices on the website, because each job is priced on what it involves. For a fixed quote, phone us on 0345 646 2711 or email us, and we will talk you through it.
