TR19 inspection in Sunnymeads, done properly

A fixed schedule does not always match how a kitchen really cooks. Some kitchens build up grease faster than the minimum intervals assume, and only measurement shows it. We give your risk assessment measured figures rather than guesses. The work covers wet film thickness tests, post-clean checks and deposit thickness tests, and common reasons people get in touch are ductwork where grease may be over the TR19 limits and cleaning intervals that may not suit the kitchen.

Rural kitchens often have long, low duct runs through a roof space or along an outside wall, where grease settles in the flat sections. We agree access and timings in advance.

Good records are part of the job. Each visit is written up with pictures, listing what was done, anything we couldn’t reach and when the next visit is due. Keep it with your fire safety records so it’s ready for an insurer, fire officer or EHO.

Kitchen extracts in Sunnymeads

Look up Sunnymeads on the FSA’s food hygiene register and you will find about 23 cafés, restaurants and staff canteens and about 8 takeaways and sandwich shops within roughly a mile and a half of the centre of Sunnymeads. For any of them with a canopy, measuring grease is better than guessing when to clean. Sunnymeads is covered by Surrey Fire and Rescue Service. The Fire Safety Order puts the duty on whoever runs a kitchen to control its fire risk, and a greasy duct is fuel. Food hygiene inspections in Sunnymeads are the job of Windsor and Maidenhead council’s environmental health team. An officer looking round a kitchen will see the canopy, and grease there is hard to miss. Keeping each certificate and photo report on file helps show the extract is looked after.

Church and community hall kitchens, near SS Peter and Andrew's Church or anywhere around Sunnymeads, are easy to forget, but their extracts collect grease like any other. Bursars and site managers at schools such as Wraysbury Primary School tend to book extract cleaning for when the kitchen is empty. If you run catering at a healthcare site, such as a hospital like King Edward VII Hospital about 2.4 miles west, the extract may need cleaning more often than a part-time kitchen.

Staff cleaning versus specialist work

When your team notices a problem between visits, like drips, unusual noise, smells or damaged filters, they should report it rather than try to fix it. We’ll take a look and give you a fixed quote.

Your own staff can handle the daily basics: wiping down canopy surfaces, cleaning filters and keeping a simple log. What they cannot safely do is clean inside the ductwork, the fan or the risers, which is where we come in.

Landlords, agents and facilities managers

Running several sites is easier with one contractor. We cover South East England and London, so visits at different addresses can be planned together and kept to a regular schedule.

Whether it’s one building or many, the standard is the same: a survey first, a fixed quote, the work timed around the site and a report with photos.

Questions from Sunnymeads

Which fire authority looks after Sunnymeads?

Sunnymeads is in the area of Surrey Fire and Rescue Service. TR19® is not law, but it’s the benchmark many fire officers and insurers look to when they ask how often the extract is cleaned.

Do you work in villages like Sunnymeads?

Yes, Sunnymeads is part of our area, however small the site. Just mention lanes, gates or anything else about the site when you book.

Can you price the work without visiting?

Yes, if we can see what we need. Otherwise, we book a survey at a time that suits the site, and the quote follows that.

Is TR19 cleaning the law?

No. TR19® is a specification, not a statute. In practice, an insurer can refuse or reduce a claim without proof of TR19 cleaning, so it matters in practice.

What information do you need?

Only a few details: the address, the site type, your opening hours and how we reach the system. Photos and the last report help too. After that, simply phone us on 0345 646 2711 or use the quote form.

How do you keep the site clean during the work?

With sheeting and covers, before anything else happens. We keep the work contained and leave the area clean.

How often should grease be tested?

It depends on how heavily the kitchen cooks. BESA sets minimum cleaning intervals of 3, 6 or 12 months by daily use, and grease readings help set the real interval.

Can one contract cover all our sites?

Yes. Our area covers London and the South East, so we can schedule a run of sites on one programme. Each site gets its own report and pictures.

What affects the cost of TR19 inspection

The diagnosis comes before the price. The main factors are:

  • One-off work versus a regular cycle
  • The scale of the work
  • What state the system is in
  • Any permits to work or inductions

Whatever the type of site, the quote works the same way: the size of the job, access, condition and working hours. Call for a fixed quote and we’ll go through it with you.

What to send for a quote

Many jobs can be priced from photos and some basics. Useful things to send:

  • The paperwork from the last visit, if you have it
  • Problems your staff have spotted
  • Photos showing the whole system and its surroundings
  • Your opening hours and when the area is out of use

Photos are enough for some jobs, while others need a look on site. Larger sites, and anything hidden behind walls, ceilings or floors, are normally surveyed first. Either way, you get a fixed price before we start.

How the job changes from site to site

Extract fan and discharge

The discharge at the end of the system is checked as well, as grease can build up there too.

Canopy and plenum

The plenum behind the filters can carry a lot of grease. Readings and photos are taken in the plenum as part of every survey.

Between visits

Looking after the system between visits is straightforward, and it helps at the next visit:

  • Keep access panels clear and unpainted
  • Flag oily drips near the extract
  • Never cook with filters missing
  • Keep canopy edges and gutters wiped down

After post-clean verification, file the results with the cleaning certificate. The pair gives a clear record of the clean and the check.

Keep filters clean and in place. Gaps around filters let grease get past them.

When it’s something else

Some problems need a different service or another trade:

  • Sections with no access, until panels are fitted
  • Ductwork that was designed or installed badly
  • Heavy deposits found on test, which still need cleaning

If you are not sure, just give us a ring on 0345 646 2711 or email us and we’ll give you a straight answer.

What the work covers

  • Pre-clean surveys
  • Deposit thickness tests
  • Insurer audits
  • Access surveys
  • Wet film thickness tests
  • Post-clean checks

How the visit works

At the end of the visit, someone from your team can look over the work with us. We point out anything that couldn’t be reached or needs a follow-up, and the same goes into the written report. All told, the work takes around an hour or two per canopy and duct system. Rural roads and tight entrances are worth telling us about before a visit to Sunnymeads.

  1. The visit is arranged for when the kitchen is not busy.
  2. We look over the canopy, plenum, ducts, fan and discharge.
  3. We take WFTT or DTT readings at set points along the system.
  4. Each test point and any access problems are photographed.
  5. We send a report setting out the readings, pictures and next steps.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Mention any locked doors, roof access or ceiling voids
  • Make sure equipment near the work can be switched off and left to cool
  • Agree a time when the area can be out of use

How to get a quote
