Greater London · TR19 inspections and grease testing
Osidge TR19 inspection
Our technicians work in Osidge on TR19 inspections, grease thickness testing, pre-clean surveys and post-clean verification. Fixed quotes, work around your opening hours and photo reports as standard.
- Kitchens whose menu or hours have changed
- Pre-clean surveys before a first TR19 clean
- Missing access panels found on survey
Keeping the system healthy
Think of this as the after-treatment advice, in brief:
- Flag changes in how much frying the kitchen does
- Look out for grease drips round the canopy edge
- Don’t box in or cover duct access panels
- Store grease readings where your insurer can see them
Where sections couldn’t be reached, the report says where access panels would help. Fitting them before the next clean means the whole system gets done.
Keep certificates, reports and readings in one place so you can produce them quickly.
TR19 inspection for kitchens and businesses in Osidge
Not every kitchen fits neatly into a calendar. Some kitchens build up grease faster than the minimum intervals assume, which is why measurement matters. Our readings give your risk assessment real numbers to work from. The work covers wet film thickness tests, deposit thickness tests and access surveys, and people most often call us about kitchen extract systems with no recent grease readings and kitchens whose menu or hours have changed.
Kitchens in Osidge, like many across London, can share a building with flats or offices, with the duct running up through shared risers. A duct fire there can reach parts of the building far from the range, so a regular TR19® clean protects everyone in it.
Duct Doctor has been trading since 2009, as a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease. CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001 are in place too, and we carry full insurance.

When something else is needed
We’ll always give you a straight diagnosis, so here’s what this work cannot put right:
- The legal duty, which stays with the responsible person
- Heavy deposits found on test, which still need cleaning
- Parts of the duct nobody can reach yet
If in doubt, give us a ring on 0345 646 2711, or email photos and we will say what we think before booking.

What happens on the day
Before we leave, we walk the area with whoever is on site. We point out anything that couldn’t be reached or needs a follow-up, and it goes on the report too. The visit takes an hour or two for a single kitchen, longer for a large or complex system. We fit London jobs around the building rather than the other way round, so a visit in Osidge is usually out of hours.
- First we book a time that won’t disrupt cooking.
- Every part of the system is examined, end to end.
- Grease readings are taken at set points using WFTT or DTT.
- We photograph the test points and record any sections we cannot reach.
- You get a report with readings, pictures and recommendations.
How to prepare
- Arrange a key holder or contact on site
- Tell us about access, such as roof hatches, plant rooms, ceilings or locked areas
- Make sure equipment near the work can be switched off and left to cool
How to get a quote
Photos are the quickest way to a quote: the system from a couple of angles, plus any access panels or hatches. Add the site type and your opening hours, and many jobs can be priced from that alone.
Related advice
Landlords, agents and facilities managers
We regularly work with managing agents. Send the address, what’s needed and how access works and we’ll come back with a fixed quote.
Keeping records across a portfolio is half the battle. Each visit produces a dated report with photos, so you can show an insurer or inspector what was done at each site.
Common questions in Osidge
Can school kitchens in Osidge be cleaned in the holidays?
Yes. The holidays are the usual time for school work. The FSA’s register shows about 48 schools and colleges with food registrations within roughly a mile and a half of Osidge. Just call 0345 646 2711 or send us an email with your term dates and we will plan around them.
Which environmental health team covers Osidge?
That is Enfield council, whose environmental health officers carry out food hygiene inspections in Osidge. How often a business is inspected depends on the risk rating the council gives it, so it’s worth staying ready all year.
At what point does grease need cleaning?
Two figures matter: a mean of no more than 200 microns between cleans, and 500 microns at any single point, which needs immediate spot cleaning. Our report sets your readings against both.
Do you carry out TR19 audits for insurers?
Yes. Our TR19 audits cover readings, photos, access and a recommended cleaning interval. It’s set out for your insurer or broker.
What do you need from me for a quote?
A short description and a few pictures plus the address and your hours. We’ll ask for anything else we need.
How do you measure grease in a kitchen extract?
The Wet Film Thickness Test (WFTT) and Deposit Thickness Test (DTT) measure how thick the grease is at a given point. Readings are taken at set points through the system.
What does a pre-clean survey involve?
We survey, measure and photograph the system first. We can work from photos and details, or visit, whichever suits the system.
Is TR19 a legal requirement?
No. TR19® is BESA’s specification and the industry benchmark, not legislation. The law is the Fire Safety Order 2005, under which the responsible person must manage fire risk, and TR19® is what insurers and fire officers look to.
What staff can safely do
Staff cleaning and specialist work aren’t the same thing. Wiping filters daily and washing them weekly keeps the visible parts in order, but grease that has passed the filters is out of reach. Reaching it takes a specialist with the right equipment.
Away from the kitchen, the in-house job is mainly checking: clear grilles, a log of filter changes and reporting anything odd. Cleaning inside ducts and units is specialist work.
What the work involves, part by part
Restaurants, pubs and hotels
A kitchen running from breakfast to late service builds grease quickly. Readings show if the cleans are frequent enough.
Extract fan and discharge
The extract fan and its housing collect grease too. They’re included in the readings and photos.
TR19 inspection in Osidge: the local picture
The FSA’s food hygiene register shows about 134 restaurants, cafés and works canteens and about 50 takeaways within about 1.5 miles of central Osidge. Each kitchen extract among them can be measured for grease to set the right cleaning interval. Most London extract cleaning happens at night, after the last service. Fire safety in Osidge falls to London Fire Brigade. Grease in a kitchen extract is a recognised fire risk, and the fire authority enforces the law on managing it in most commercial premises.
Historic houses near Osidge, such as Bruce Castle about 3.8 miles south-east, are a reminder that older buildings with event kitchens can have long, awkward duct routes. Where a hall near St Andrew's Church, or anywhere in Osidge, hosts lunch clubs or events, its extract gathers grease just as a café’s does. Kitchens that cook twelve hours or more a day, as some healthcare kitchens do, fall into BESA’s three-monthly minimum; Coppetts Wood Hospital is the nearest hospital to Osidge, about 2.3 miles south.
