TR19 inspections and grease testing in New England, Essex
Looking for TR19 inspection in New England? We diagnose first, fix the price and book the work around your hours, finishing with a written report and photos.
- Parts of the system left out of past cleans
- Heavy grease suspected in the plenum or ducts
- Confirming a clean reached the whole system
What happens if it’s left?
Post-clean verification shows whether the system was left the way the certificate says, while there’s still time to put anything right. Systems in rural buildings are often out of sight and out of mind.
Leaving it longer rarely makes the work cheaper. Build-up, wear and faults tend to get worse, not better, which can make the next visit longer. If you are unsure, phone us on 0345 646 2711 or drop us a line for straight advice and a fixed quote.

How we handle TR19 inspection in New England
BESA’s minimum cleaning frequencies depend on how long the kitchen cooks each day: heavy use (12 to 16 hours a day) every 3 months, moderate use (6 to 12 hours) every 6 months and light use (2 to 6 hours) every 12 months. Those are minimums, and grease readings help set the real interval. If you have confirming a clean reached the whole system and extracts that may be over the 200 micron mean, we can help, from pre-clean surveys, insurer audits and deposit thickness tests onwards.
Work in a small place like New England starts with a call to agree access and timings, and the clean covers the whole system, as it would anywhere: canopy, filters, duct, fan and discharge, with a certificate and photo report at the end.
For insurers and inspectors, the record counts. So every job comes with a written report and photos, plus a TR19® certificate through the BESCA VHE portal where the work is a TR19® Grease clean.

Aftercare tips
After the visit, a few habits help the work last:
- Keep TR19 certificates, readings and reports together
- Clean grease off the canopy between professional cleans
- Look out for grease drips round the canopy edge
- Have the latest report ready for insurance renewals
Readings of 500 microns or more are highlighted as needing immediate spot cleaning, and we can arrange it.
Keep filters clean and in place. Gaps around filters let grease get past them.
What we do, step by step
The visit has three parts: getting the area ready, doing the work and signing it off. Set-up means sheeting and making equipment safe, while signing off means the written report and pictures. Most of the time goes on the work itself, which takes anything from an hour for a small canopy and short duct to a good part of a day for a large site. A quick note on how to find the site and where to park makes a visit to New England run smoothly.
- After the clean, we arrange a time to check the system.
- We open the access points used on the clean.
- Grease readings are taken again at set points.
- Photos are taken to show the condition after the clean.
- We report the findings and flag any areas that need more work.
Before we arrive
- Have your last certificate or report to hand
- Tell us about access, such as roof hatches, plant rooms, ceilings or locked areas
- Agree a time when the area can be out of use
Getting a quote
To get a fixed quote, call 0345 646 2711 or use the quote form with the site type, your trading hours and a short description of the system. A few pictures and your last certificate or report help a lot. We usually come back within one working day.
Advice
How the job changes from site to site
Restaurants, pubs and hotels
BESA’s minimum for heavy use of 12 to 16 hours a day is a clean every 3 months, with testing showing whether more is needed.
Extract fan and discharge
The discharge at the end of the system is checked as well, as grease can build up there too.
New England questions
Which council inspects kitchens in New England?
Kitchens in New England are inspected by Braintree council’s environmental health officers. An officer may look up into the canopy, so clean filters on the day and a recent certificate on file both help.
Can you get to a site in New England?
Yes, New England is part of our area, however small the site. Just mention lanes, gates or anything else about the site when you book.
Can one contract cover all our sites?
Yes. Our area covers London and the South East, so we can schedule a run of sites on one programme. Every site has its own report.
At what point does grease need cleaning?
Between cleans, the mean should stay at 200 microns or below, and anywhere at 500 microns or more needs spot cleaning right away.
Is TR19 cleaning the law?
No. TR19® is BESA’s specification and the industry benchmark, not legislation. The legal duty comes from the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, which requires the responsible person to reduce fire risk, and TR19® is what insurers and fire officers look to.
Can you work evenings and weekends?
Yes. Much of our work happens in the evening, overnight or at weekends, so the site doesn’t lose a service.
How much notice should we give?
For planned work, earlier is better, especially if the next clean or test is due soon. For emergencies, we take calls 24/7.
How much does TR19 inspection cost in New England?
There’s no set price, as it depends on the job: the size of the system, its condition, access and when we can work. We fix the price before we start.
Fixed quotes for TR19 inspection in New England
We quote each job individually. These are the things that affect it:
- Access, including roofs, risers and ceiling voids
- A single visit or a regular plan
- What state the system is in
- Site rules, permits and inductions
Several systems or sites on one quote can make for a more efficient booking. Tell us about everything you’d like looked at, and you will get one fixed quote.
What to send for a quote
When you contact us, these details help:
- The times we could work without disrupting the site
- The postcode and the type of business
- Where the plant sits or the system leaves the building, such as a roof or outside wall
- Any access panels or hatches you can see
Getting a quote does not take long. Send a few details and photos, and we typically reply with a fixed quote within one working day. If we need to see the system first, we book a survey around your hours.
New England kitchens: local notes
New England sits within the area of Essex County Fire and Rescue Service. In most workplaces, including commercial kitchens, it’s the fire and rescue authority that enforces the Fire Safety Order. About 46 miles out from central London, New England is part of the South East area we work across. The visit is fixed around your opening hours, not ours.
If you run a church or community hall kitchen, near Church of St Leonard or elsewhere in New England, its extract still collects grease from every lunch and event. Around New England, as anywhere, we clean the parts you can’t see as well as the canopy you can.
New England is in Essex. New England gets the same approach as every site we work on: a survey first, a fixed quote, work timed around your hours and a report with photos. Our Essex coverage runs to 644 places, and New England is one of them. You can also see our page for Chelmsford, about 22 miles away.
Work in CO9 follows the same survey, fixed quote and written report as everywhere else we cover. We also cover the places around New England: Birdbrook (1 mile south). When something else is needed
We won’t sell you work that doesn’t address the problem, so these are the things it will not cover:
- Fan breakdowns, which need a repair visit
- Hidden runs that need access panels first
- Removing the grease, which is a separate clean
If you are not sure, just phone us on 0345 646 2711 or drop us a line and we’ll give you a straight answer before you book.
