TR19 inspection in Lumley

TR19 inspection in Lumley

After a clean, post-clean verification checks the result, with fresh grease readings, photos and a look at the areas that were cleaned. It gives you evidence of how the system was actually left. The work covers post-clean checks, access surveys and wet film thickness tests, and common reasons people get in touch are kitchens taken over with no cleaning records and extracts that have never been grease tested.

In a small place like Lumley, kitchens are often in older or extended buildings, with long single-storey duct runs, and those horizontal sections are where grease settles. Access, parking and timings are agreed before the day.

We have been trading since 2009, as a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease. CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001 are in place too, and we carry full insurance.

Questions from Lumley

Does the sea air around Lumley make a difference to TR19 inspection?

It can. Being within about 1 mile of the sea means more corrosion on metalwork in Lumley than inland. Rooftop fans, discharge cowls and fixings are checked for corrosion as well as grease.

Will you come out to Lumley?

Yes. Lumley is within the area we cover across London and the South East. Photos of the system and directions to the site help us plan the visit.

What does TR19 inspection cost?

The cost depends on the size of the system, its condition, access and timing. Ask us for a fixed quote, usually ready within one working day.

What does a pre-clean survey involve?

We survey, measure and photograph the system first. We can work from photos and details, or visit, as suits the job.

Do you check other contractors’ cleans?

It’s an inspection after cleaning, to show what state the system was left in, for our cleans and other firms’ alike.

How much notice should we give?

Book as early as you can for planned work, particularly if your next visit is nearly due. Emergencies are different, because our line is open 24/7.

What is grease thickness testing?

It’s a measurement of how much grease is coating the inside of the extract, using the Wet Film Thickness Test (WFTT) or Deposit Thickness Test (DTT). The results are given in microns.

Are you accredited?

CHAS, SafeContractor, ISO 9001 and BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite membership, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease. We’ve been trading since 2009 and we’re fully insured.

How it works

The visit has three parts: getting the area ready, doing the work and signing it off. Getting ready means protecting surfaces and switching off what needs to be off, and the sign-off is a written report with pictures. Most of the time goes on the work itself, which takes around an hour or two per canopy and duct system. If you can send photos, we can arrive in Lumley knowing what to expect.

  1. First we book a time that won’t disrupt cooking.
  2. We look over the canopy, plenum, ducts, fan and discharge.
  3. Grease thickness is measured at set points by WFTT or DTT.
  4. Photos are taken at each point, and access gaps noted.
  5. We send a report setting out the readings, photos and next steps.

Before we arrive

  • Allow time for equipment near the work to be turned off and cool down
  • Clear loose items from the work area
  • Tell us where we can park and unload

Advice

Common problems we fix in Lumley

Not every section of a kitchen extract is easy to get to, and grease can be missed there clean after clean. A survey finds the sections that cannot be reached, so the gaps can be closed.

Any of these means the system needs a check-up:

  • Sections of duct that can’t be reached
  • Checking the result of a recent clean
  • Surveys needed before quoting a full clean
  • Kitchen extract systems with no recent grease readings

Commuter trade near Emsworth station can mean long cooking hours, and long hours put a kitchen into BESA’s more frequent cleaning bands.

Before you book anyone

  • When they can work, and whether that’s outside your opening hours
  • Whether the price is fixed
  • What insurance they carry

Questions to ask before you book

What TR19 inspection looks like in Lumley

Lumley is within about 1 mile of the coast. Salt air speeds up corrosion of roof-level fans, discharge cowls and their fixings. Food Standards Agency records list about 20 cafés, restaurants and staff canteens and about 10 sandwich bars and takeaways across Lumley and its immediate surroundings (about a mile and a half). For any of them with a canopy, measuring grease is better than guessing when to clean. Environmental health officers from Havant council inspect food businesses in Lumley. They look at how clean the premises and equipment are, and the kitchen extract is part of that. Before-and-after pictures from each clean are a simple way to show the extract is in hand.

Kitchens that cook twelve hours or more a day, as some healthcare kitchens do, fall into BESA’s three-monthly minimum; Havant War Memorial Hospital is the nearest hospital to Lumley, about 2.4 miles west. Where a hall near Church of St James, or anywhere in Lumley, hosts lunch clubs or events, its extract gathers grease just as a café’s does.

What a clean won’t put right

To be straight with you, there are a few things this work won’t fix:

  • The responsible person’s own fire risk assessment
  • Ductwork that was designed or installed badly
  • Hidden runs that need access panels first

If in doubt, give us a ring on 0345 646 2711 or email us and we will say what we think before you book.

Parts of the system we cover

  • Post-clean checks
  • Access surveys
  • Pre-clean surveys
  • Deposit thickness tests
  • Insurer audits
  • Wet film thickness tests

For landlords and multi-site operators

We regularly work with managing agents. Send the address, what’s needed and how access works and we will come back with a fixed quote.

When the building owner and the occupier are different, it’s worth checking the lease for who maintains the systems. We are happy to deal with either side, and the report can go to both.

Why act early in Lumley

Don’t wait for an EHO visit or insurance renewal to find gaps in your extract records. A recent inspection report means you’re ready when asked. It’s simpler to plan the work at Lumley now than to arrange it in a hurry later.

One small site or a whole estate, we price it on the same basis: the work involved, the access and the timing. You’ll have a fixed price before work begins.

Fixed quotes for TR19 inspection in Lumley

Sites vary more than people expect. What affects the quote:

  • One-off work versus a regular cycle
  • The size of the system
  • Any permits to work or inductions
  • The number of sites or systems

Kitchens, offices, schools and hospitals are all priced the same way: how much there is, how we reach it, what state it’s in and when we can work. Call for a fixed quote and we’ll go through it with you.

Helping us quote

To help us quote quickly, send us:

  • Close-ups of filters, grilles, hatches or access panels
  • The times we could work without disrupting the site
  • The paperwork from the last visit, if you have it
  • Any symptoms, from odd noises to smells or leaks

To get a fixed quote, ring 0345 646 2711 or drop us a line with the site type, your trading hours and a short description of the system. A few pictures and your last certificate or report help a lot. You’ll typically have a quote within one working day.

Aftercare tips

No system stays clean for ever, but care slows the build-up. Our tips:

  • Keep access panels clear and unpainted
  • Report grease dripping from the canopy
  • Store grease readings where your insurer can see them
  • Never cook with filters missing

If any reading is 500 microns or more, the report flags it for immediate spot cleaning, and we can quote to do it.

Clean, correctly fitted filters stop more grease reaching the duct. Missing or damaged filters let grease straight into the plenum.
