Need TR19 inspection in Hiltingbury?

TR19 inspection in Hiltingbury, done properly

Many insurers ask for proof that kitchen extract systems are cleaned and inspected to TR19®. Without it, a claim can be refused or reduced. A TR19 audit sets out the system’s condition, with readings and photos, for sites in Hiltingbury and the rest of Hampshire. If you have an insurer’s request for a TR19 audit and extracts that have never been grease tested, we can help.

Size doesn’t change the work: a kitchen in a place like Hiltingbury gets the whole system cleaned, canopy to discharge. We plan the visit around your hours, with the journey sorted in advance.

Insurers, fire officers and environmental health officers all look at records. That’s why every job is written up in a report with pictures, plus a TR19® certificate through the BESCA VHE portal where the work is a TR19® Grease clean.

Multi-site and managed buildings

We regularly work with managing agents. Tell us the site, the work and the access arrangements, and we will send a fixed quote.

When the building owner and the occupier are different, the lease normally sets out who maintains what. We are happy to deal with either side, and the report can go to both.

When to call us in Hiltingbury

Grease is fuel. Flames from the range can be pulled into the canopy and travel through the ducts to other parts of the building. Knowing how much there is lets you act before it becomes a hazard.

Look out for any of the following:

  • Kitchens whose menu or hours have changed
  • Missing access panels found on survey
  • Systems cleaned on a calendar with no measurements
  • Checking the result of a recent clean

If your kitchen is in a listed or historic building, like the houses around Hiltingbury (South Stoneham House is about 4.3 miles south), fitting access panels needs care.

What your quote should include

  • Whether the price is fixed
  • What paperwork you get at the end
  • How areas they cannot reach will be recorded
  • Whether a survey comes first

What your team can do, and what needs us

In-house cleaning and specialist cleaning do different jobs. A daily filter wipe and a weekly filter wash keep grease down at the front of the system, but grease that has passed the filters is out of reach. Reaching it takes a specialist with the right equipment.

Logging matters as much as cleaning. A dated log of in-house cleaning and checks shows an inspector that the system is looked after between visits, alongside our reports.

When it’s something else

Some problems need a different service or another trade:

  • Design faults in the extract system
  • Removing the grease, which is a separate clean
  • Sections with no access, until panels are fitted

Not sure which it is? You can call 0345 646 2711, or send details by email and we’ll tell you honestly.

What the work covers

  • Access surveys
  • Deposit thickness tests
  • Post-clean checks
  • Pre-clean surveys
  • Wet film thickness tests
  • Insurer audits

How it works

Protection comes first: sheeting goes over floors and surfaces close to the work. After that, the system is made safe and the work begins. It takes a couple of hours for a typical kitchen extract system, and the area is cleaned down before we leave. For a place like Hiltingbury, we load the van from the survey notes so the work can be done in one visit where possible.

  1. First we look at the system’s cleaning history, if there is one.
  2. The layout is traced from the canopy to the discharge.
  3. We note where access panels are and where more are needed.
  4. Grease readings are taken and pictures recorded.
  5. You get a report and a fixed quote for the clean.

How to prepare

  • Clear the space around the work
  • Tell us about access, such as roof hatches, plant rooms, ceilings or locked areas
  • Name a contact who can let us in at the agreed time

Ask for a quote

There’s no standard price list, because no two systems are the same. We look at your system first, from photos or on a visit, then send a fixed quote. To get going, ring 0345 646 2711 or drop us a line.

Advice

Grease, kitchens and Hiltingbury

The FSA’s food hygiene register shows about 18 restaurants, cafés and works canteens and about 15 takeaways and sandwich shops in and around Hiltingbury, up to about a mile and a half out. A WFTT or DTT reading tells each of those kitchens whether its grease is staying under the 200-micron mean. In Hiltingbury, food businesses are inspected by environmental health officers from Eastleigh council. The cleanliness of the kitchen and its equipment, extraction included, is part of what they check. Our report lists what was cleaned and when, which is useful to have ready. The fire and rescue service for Hiltingbury is Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service. Its fire safety officers can audit commercial kitchens, and grease in the extract is part of a kitchen’s fire risk.

If you run a church or community hall kitchen, near St. Martin in the Woods or elsewhere in Hiltingbury, its extract still collects grease from every lunch and event. School kitchens, at schools like Hiltingbury Junior School for example, are usually cleaned in the holidays so no lunches are lost.

Restaurants, pubs and hotels

Heavy use under BESA guidance, 12 to 16 hours a day, means a clean at least every 3 months, and readings show whether that’s enough.

Horizontal duct runs

Grease settles on the floor of horizontal ducts as the air cools. Readings are taken along each run through its access panels.

Hiltingbury: your questions answered

Which fire service covers Hiltingbury?

It’s Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service, which covers Hiltingbury. Records of extract cleaning are a sensible thing to have ready if a fire safety officer carries out an audit.

Do you clean school canteen extracts around Hiltingbury out of term?

Yes. Half-terms and the summer break are the natural time for school work. With about 7 schools and colleges on the FSA’s register within roughly a mile and a half of Hiltingbury, it pays to plan holiday dates ahead. Booking early in the term gives the best choice of holiday dates.

How do you keep the site clean during the work?

Floors and surfaces near the work are sheeted before we start, and waste is contained as we go. At the end, the area is cleaned down.

Can we book visits on a schedule?

Yes. Send details of the systems and how they’re used and we’ll propose a schedule with a fixed quote.

What is grease thickness testing?

Readings are taken using the Wet Film Thickness Test or the Deposit Thickness Test, and set against the TR19® Grease figures.

Do you have a 24/7 line?

Yes, 24/7. Our office is open from 8am to 6pm on weekdays, with the emergency line covering every other hour.

What is TR19?

BESA’s ventilation hygiene specification in two main parts: TR19® Grease for kitchen extracts and TR19® Air for supply and extract systems. It is not law, but it’s the benchmark.

What if parts of the system cannot be reached?

We record them on the report, with photos where possible, and we explain what access is needed, such as extra access panels in ductwork.

What happens if it’s left?

Without readings, you are guessing when to clean. If grease reaches 500 microns anywhere, TR19® Grease calls for immediate spot cleaning, and you can only act on that if you’ve measured it. When a site near Hiltingbury shuts unexpectedly, the people who rely on it notice at once.

Whatever the type of site, the quote works the same way: how much there is, how we reach it, what state it’s in and when we can work. Call for a fixed quote and we will explain each part.
