TR19 Inspection in Highbury
TR19 inspection in Highbury from ventilation hygiene specialists trading since 2009. Out-of-hours visits and 24/7 emergency callout.
- Kitchens taken over with no cleaning records
- Kitchen extract systems with no recent grease readings
- An insurer’s request for a TR19 audit
How we price TR19 inspection
You will get a fixed price before any work starts. It’s based on:
- The condition of the system
- The times the site is available
- Site rules, permits and inductions
- One-off work versus a regular cycle
You will not find a price list here, because the cost depends on the site in front of us. Call for a fixed quote, and we’ll talk you through it.
Helping us quote
Before you ask for a quote, gather:
- Any access panels or hatches you can see
- Photos showing the whole system and its surroundings
- How we’d reach plant on a roof or in a plant room
- The postcode and the type of business
Photos are the quickest way to a quote: the system from a couple of angles, plus any access panels or hatches. Tell us what kind of site it is and when it’s open, and we can price many jobs without a visit.
About our TR19 inspection in Highbury
Under TR19® Grease, the mean grease thickness should stay at or below 200 microns between cleans, and 500 microns or more at any point needs immediate spot cleaning. Grease testing shows which side of those lines you’re on. If you have an insurer’s request for a TR19 audit and post-clean verification after another contractor’s clean, we can help, from insurer audits, post-clean checks and access surveys onwards.
London kitchens tend to trade late and open early, so work in Highbury is normally booked for the night or the early hours. Before the clean, we agree loading, parking and roof access with whoever manages the building.
Accreditations are easy to claim and worth checking. We are a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease, and we hold CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001, with full insurance on top.

Grease, kitchens and Highbury
Look up Highbury on the FSA’s food hygiene register and you’ll find about 840 cafés, restaurants and staff canteens and about 210 sandwich bars and takeaways in Highbury and the streets around it, up to about 1.5 miles out. For any of them with a canopy, measuring grease is better than guessing when to clean. Environmental health officers from Islington council inspect food businesses in Highbury. A greasy canopy or dripping filters are the sort of thing an inspection can pick up. Our report lists what was cleaned and when, which is useful to have ready. The fire and rescue service for Highbury is London Fire Brigade. Its fire safety officers can audit commercial kitchens, and grease in the extract is part of a kitchen’s fire risk.
A hospital like King's College Hospital Charity, about 1.1 miles south-west, is the kind of site where a kitchen may cook for patients, staff and visitors all day. Where a hall near Christ Church, or anywhere in Highbury, hosts lunch clubs or events, its extract gathers grease just as a café’s does.
Highbury is about 4 miles north-east of City of Westminster, in Greater London. Wherever you are in the N1 postcode area, we can take on TR19 inspection. Across Greater London, we cover 764 places, and Highbury is one of them.
Postcode districts we cover here for TR19 inspection: N1, N16 and N5. We cover sites on Prah Road, Dove Road and Lough Road and the roads around them. Highbury is on the A1199, which makes it straightforward for our technicians to reach for out-of-hours visits. If your site is just outside Highbury, we cover Newington Green (1 mile east), Mildmay (1 mile east), Canonbury (1 mile south-east), De Beauvoir Town (1 mile south-east) and Stoke Newington (1 mile north-east). Larger places within reach include London (4 miles south), City of Westminster (4 miles south-west), Marylebone (3 miles south-west), Kensington (6 miles south-west), Walthamstow (4 miles north-east) and Whitechapel (3 miles south-east).

Your questions about TR19 inspection in Highbury
Does London parking affect a job in Highbury?
Parking and loading in London need planning, so tell us about bays, permits and building rules when you book. If the building has a loading slot system, we’ll book into it.
Can school kitchens in Highbury be cleaned in the holidays?
Yes, holiday work suits schools best. The FSA’s register shows about 31 schools and colleges with food registrations within roughly a mile and a half of Highbury. Booking early in the term gives the best choice of holiday dates.
What does TR19 inspection cost?
The cost depends on the size of the system, its condition, access and timing. Ask us for a fixed quote, normally ready within one working day.
What happens on a pre-clean survey?
It’s a look at the whole extract before it’s cleaned, with readings and photos. We can work from photos and details, or visit, as suits the job.
How do you keep the site clean during the work?
Protection goes down first: floor sheeting and covers over nearby surfaces and equipment. We tidy up and take our waste away before we leave.
What accreditations do you have?
We are a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease. CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001 are in place too, and we carry full insurance.
Is TR19 a legal requirement?
No. It’s the benchmark rather than the law. In practice, an insurer can refuse or reduce a claim without proof of TR19 cleaning, so following it is the sensible course.
What happens if you can’t reach some of it?
The report shows them clearly. In ductwork, new access panels are often the answer, which we can install.
How the visit works
Protection comes first: sheeting goes over floors and surfaces close to the work. Then we make the system safe and start. It takes a couple of hours for a typical kitchen extract system, and the area is cleaned down before we leave. Loading bays, visitor permits and roof access are the first things we ask about for a site in Highbury.
- First we book a time that will not disrupt cooking.
- Every part of the system is examined, end to end.
- We take WFTT or DTT readings at set points along the system.
- Photos are taken at each point, and access gaps noted.
- We send a report setting out the readings, photos and next steps.
Preparing for the visit
- Tell us about access, such as roof hatches, plant rooms, ceilings or locked areas
- Arrange a key holder or contact on site
- Have your last certificate or report to hand

Aftercare tips
Aftercare is simple, and it helps at the next visit:
- Tell us if menus or opening hours change
- Keep TR19 certificates, readings and reports together
- Keep the route to access panels clear
- Keep to the recommended interval
For an insurer audit, send them the report as it is, including readings, pictures and any inaccessible sections.
Test grease regularly instead of relying on the calendar. It shows if build-up is speeding up.
Multi-site and managed buildings
We regularly work with managing agents. Send the address, what’s needed and how access works and we will come back with a fixed quote.
Multi-site operators often want one contractor and one number. We work across London and the South East, so visits at different addresses can be planned together and kept on a regular cycle.
What your team can do, and what needs us
A few tasks are always specialist work: opening up ductwork, cleaning fans, drop testing fire dampers and measuring grease need training, the right equipment and safe access. Leave those to us.
Good housekeeping makes our visits easier, not unnecessary. Regular in-house cleaning slows the build-up, but the parts you cannot see still need a specialist at the right interval.
Honest limits
Before you book, it helps to know what’s not included:
- Installation problems, which fall under design guidance such as DW172
- Sections with no access, until panels are fitted
- The legal duty, which stays with the responsible person
Not sure which it is? You can phone us on 0345 646 2711, or email photos and we will tell you honestly.

- Pre-clean surveys
- Deposit thickness tests
- Insurer audits
Do you need TR19 inspection in Highbury?
You can’t judge grease thickness by eye. Clean filters can hide a heavy layer behind them, which is why readings matter.
Look out for any of the following:
- Systems that need surveying before cleaning
- Kitchen extract systems with no recent grease readings
- Cleaning intervals that may not suit the kitchen
- An insurer’s request for a TR19 audit
School kitchens, at schools like Highbury Quadrant Primary School for example, are normally cleaned in the holidays so no lunches are lost.
