About our TR19 inspection in Hadley

Think of a TR19 inspection as the diagnosis before the treatment. Readings, pictures and notes on access are gathered from end to end, so the clean can be planned properly. We’re often asked to deal with kitchens whose menu or hours have changed and insurers asking for TR19 evidence, on post-clean checks, deposit thickness tests and pre-clean surveys.

Kitchens in Hadley, like many across London, can share a building with flats or offices, with the duct running up through shared risers. Grease in a duct like that is a fire risk to the whole building, not just the kitchen, which is why keeping it clean to TR19® matters.

Accreditations are easy to claim and worth checking. Ours are BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite membership, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease, plus CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001, and we’re fully insured.

What affects the quote in Hadley

There’s no set price list, because no two systems are the same. The quote depends on:

  • Access, including roofs, risers and ceiling voids
  • What state the system is in
  • Parking and loading at the site
  • Whether several sites go on one quote

You won’t find a price list here, because the cost depends on the site in front of us. For a fixed quote, give us a ring on 0345 646 2711 or email us, and we’ll talk you through it.

Asking for a quote

What to send for a quote:

  • Close-ups of filters, grilles, hatches or access panels
  • Where the plant sits or the system leaves the building, such as a roof or outside wall
  • The times we could work without disrupting the site
  • Any symptoms, from odd noises to smells or leaks

Getting a quote does not take long. Send a few details and photos, and we usually reply with a fixed quote within one working day. Where a survey is needed, we arrange a time that suits the site.

Looking after it afterwards

A little care between visits keeps the system in better shape. Our advice:

  • Flag changes in how much frying the kitchen does
  • Keep canopy edges and gutters wiped down
  • Report grease dripping from the canopy
  • Keep TR19 certificates, readings and reports together

Any access problems we found are listed with a suggested fix. With panels fitted, the next clean can cover every section.

Test grease regularly instead of relying on the calendar. It spots changes in how fast grease builds.

Leave it or put it right?

If a kitchen in Hadley has been cleaned on the same calendar for years, there’s no way to know if that interval is right without measuring. Measured readings let a competent person set the interval. London sites work long hours, and the longer a job is left, the bigger it gets.

What you pay depends on how big the system is, the condition it’s in and access to every part of it. We give you a fixed price before any work starts, so there are no surprises.

What we do, step by step

Night work is normal for us. Evenings, nights and weekends are when much of our work happens, so the site can open as normal afterwards. On site, the work takes an hour or two for a single kitchen, longer for a large or complex system. A name and number for whoever controls access to the building in Hadley saves time on the night.

  1. We go through any past certificates and reports.
  2. The layout is traced from the canopy to the discharge.
  3. Access panels are located and any missing ones noted.
  4. Grease readings are taken and pictures recorded.
  5. You get a report and a fixed quote for the clean.

Before we arrive

  • Make sure equipment near the work can be switched off and left to cool
  • Clear loose items from the work area
  • Tell us about site rules, permits or sign-in

Advice

Do you need TR19 inspection in Hadley?

Looking at a canopy tells you little about what’s in the duct. Clean filters can hide a heavy layer behind them, so readings are the reliable guide.

Common reasons sites call us include:

  • Confirming a clean reached the whole system
  • Missing access panels found on survey
  • Insurers asking for TR19 evidence
  • Sites with gaps in their extract records

If your kitchen is in a listed or historic building, like the houses around Hadley (Wyllyotts Manor is about 2.8 miles north), fitting access panels needs care.

What your quote should include

  • If they look at the system before pricing
  • What insurance they carry
  • Whether the quote shows VAT
  • Whether the price is fixed

Choosing a duct cleaning contractor

When it’s something else

Before you book, it helps to know what’s not included:

  • Fan breakdowns, which need a repair visit
  • The grease itself, which needs a full or spot clean
  • Design faults in the extract system

Not sure which it is? You can give us a ring on 0345 646 2711 or use the quote form and we will tell you honestly.

Parts of the system we cover

  • Deposit thickness tests
  • Pre-clean surveys
  • Insurer audits
  • Access surveys
  • Wet film thickness tests
  • Post-clean checks

Questions from Hadley

Which fire and rescue service is responsible for Hadley?

That is London Fire Brigade. It’s worth keeping your fire risk assessment, TR19® certificates and photo reports together, ready to show.

Do you clean school canteen extracts around Hadley out of term?

Yes, out-of-term visits are normal for schools. There are about 21 schools, colleges and universities on the FSA’s food hygiene register within about 1.5 miles of Hadley. Tell us your holiday dates and we will book the visit for when the site is empty.

What do the grease readings need to be?

Under TR19® Grease, the mean thickness should not exceed 200 microns between cleans. Any reading of 500 microns or more needs immediate spot cleaning.

Can you look after several sites?

Yes. Send the list of sites and the work at each and we will quote them together.

How do you protect the area?

Protection goes down first: floor sheeting and covers over nearby surfaces and equipment. We tidy up and take our waste away before we leave.

Can you price the work without visiting?

Yes, if we can see what we need. If not, a site survey comes first, then a fixed quote.

Do you work out of hours?

Yes. Much of our work happens in the evening, overnight or at weekends, so the site does not lose a service.

How often should a kitchen extract be inspected?

Enough to be sure grease stays within the TR19® Grease figures between cleans. If readings rise, the interval should shorten.

Multi-site and managed buildings

Multi-site operators often want one contractor and one number. We cover South East England and London, so visits at different addresses can be planned together and kept on a regular cycle.

Records are where multi-site compliance often slips. Each visit ends with a dated report and pictures, so you can show an insurer or inspector what was done at each site.

TR19 inspection around Hadley

The FSA’s data shows about 21 pubs and bars registered within about 1.5 miles of central Hadley. Where they serve hot food, their kitchen extracts need cleaning to TR19® like any restaurant’s. London Fire Brigade covers Hadley. The Fire Safety Order puts the duty on whoever runs a kitchen to control its fire risk, and a greasy duct is fuel. Environmental health officers from Barnet council inspect food businesses in Hadley. The cleanliness of the kitchen and its equipment, extraction included, is part of what they check. Keeping each certificate and photo report on file helps show the extract is looked after.

Volunteers running a hall kitchen near Christ Church, or anywhere in Hadley, may not know when the extract was last cleaned, and a grease test settles it. For schools such as Susi Earnshaw Theatre School, kitchen extract cleaning is normally booked for the holidays, when the canteen is closed.
