What TR19 inspection can’t fix

We’d rather tell you now than book work that won’t help, so here are the limits:

  • Ductwork that was designed or installed badly
  • Removing the grease, which is a separate clean
  • Parts of the duct nobody can reach yet

If you’re not sure, just call 0345 646 2711 or use the quote form and we’ll give you a straight answer.

TR19 inspection in Ford

TR19® Grease says grease should not exceed a mean of 200 microns between cleans, and 500 microns or more at any point needs immediate spot cleaning. Grease testing shows which side of those lines you are on. The work covers deposit thickness tests, pre-clean surveys and access surveys, and the jobs we see most are missing access panels found on survey and post-clean verification after another contractor’s clean.

Somewhere as small as Ford, commercial kitchens are few: perhaps a pub, a school or care home kitchen, or a hall used for events. Each still has a canopy and duct that collect grease, whatever the size of the place.

It’s worth checking any contractor’s accreditations. Ours are BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite membership, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease, plus CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001, and we are fully insured.

Your questions about TR19 inspection in Ford

Who is the fire and rescue service for Ford?

It’s West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service, which covers Ford. If a fire safety officer visits a commercial kitchen, they may ask about the fire risk assessment and how the extract is kept clean.

Who inspects food businesses in Ford?

Kitchens in Ford are inspected by Arun council’s environmental health officers. An officer may look up into the canopy, so clean filters on the day and a recent certificate on file both help.

Are you accredited?

CHAS, SafeContractor, ISO 9001 and BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite membership, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease. We are fully insured and have been trading since 2009.

What happens on a pre-clean survey?

The survey covers the whole system, grease readings and access to each section. From it, we plan the clean and quote a fixed price.

How far ahead should we book?

The more notice, the better, especially for out-of-hours work. Quotes typically come back within one working day, and emergencies are covered by our 24/7 line.

Do you work in Ford?

Yes. Ford is part of the area we cover, within the South East and London area we cover.

Is TR19 cleaning the law?

No. TR19® isn’t law; it’s BESA’s specification. The law is the Fire Safety Order 2005, under which the responsible person must manage fire risk, and insurers, fire officers and EHOs look to TR19® as the benchmark.

Can you quote from pictures?

Typically, yes. Send a few wide pictures plus close-ups of panels, filters or grilles, and a fixed quote usually follows within one working day. Some sites still need a visit, and we will say so.

How the job changes from site to site

Schools, hospitals and care homes

Inspections are planned around mealtimes and holidays so meals aren’t affected.

Horizontal duct runs

Grease settles on the floor of horizontal ducts as the air cools. We test at points along the run through access panels.

Looking after it afterwards

After the visit, a few habits help the work last:

  • Tell us if menus or opening hours change
  • Keep to the recommended interval
  • Send TR19 audit reports to your insurer on request
  • Keep grease filters clean and fitted properly

For an insurer audit, send them the report as it is, including readings, photos and any inaccessible sections.

Revisit the cleaning interval whenever the menu or hours change. A quick grease test answers the question.

The process

Protection comes first: floors, worktops and anything near the work are covered. Then we make the system safe and start. It takes a morning or less for one kitchen, more where there are several systems, and we clear up before we go. We agree a date with you, plan the drive to Ford and turn up when the site is quiet.

  1. The visit is arranged for when the kitchen isn’t busy.
  2. Every part of the system is examined, end to end.
  3. Grease readings are taken at set points using WFTT or DTT.
  4. We photograph the test points and record any sections we cannot reach.
  5. We send a report setting out the readings, photos and next steps.

Preparing for the visit

  • Arrange a key holder or contact on site
  • Mention any parking or loading restrictions
  • Tell us the best time to work, such as after service or at a weekend

Getting a quote

There’s no standard price list, because no two systems are the same. We look at your system first, from pictures or on a visit, then send a fixed quote. To get going, phone us on 0345 646 2711 or drop us a line.

Why deal with it now?

Sites in Ford that have never measured grease cannot tell whether their cleaning interval suits the kitchen. Testing gives you the evidence to set it properly. In a place like Ford, ductwork and fans are easy to forget until something goes wrong.

When the work has to happen, how we reach it and how big the site is can all change the price. We take each of them into account and give you a fixed price before we start.

What your team can do, and what needs us

In-house cleaning and specialist cleaning do different jobs. Wiping filters daily and washing them weekly keeps the visible parts in order, but grease that has passed the filters is out of reach. That part needs specialist access and equipment.

Your own staff can handle the daily basics: wiping canopies, washing grease filters and recording it in a log. What they can’t safely do is clean inside the ductwork, the fan or the risers, which is where we come in.

What affects the quote in Ford

Your quote is based on your site. We take into account:

  • Parking and loading at the site
  • Access, including roofs, risers and ceiling voids
  • The times the site is available
  • The size of the system

A single site or a whole portfolio, we price it on the same basis: what needs doing, how we get to it and when. The price is fixed before work begins.

Asking for a quote

A few details help us quote accurately. With your enquiry, please include:

  • The site address and the type of premises
  • Any symptoms, from odd noises to smells or leaks
  • The times we could work without disrupting the site
  • The paperwork from the last visit, if you have it

Every quote begins with a look at the system, from your photos and details or, where that isn’t enough, a survey on site. Then we send a fixed price, before any work starts.
