How we handle TR19 inspection in Fairlands
Grease thickness testing tells you how much grease is sitting in the canopy, ducts and fan. We use the Wet Film Thickness Test (WFTT) or the Deposit Thickness Test (DTT), taking readings at set points. The results show whether the system needs cleaning and how soon. If you are dealing with ductwork where grease may be over the TR19 limits and kitchens whose menu or hours have changed, we can put it right, from pre-clean surveys, post-clean checks and deposit thickness tests onwards.
For a kitchen in or near Fairlands, the visit is planned around opening hours and the journey, and the clean itself is the same full TR19® job as in any town: canopy to discharge, then a TR19® certificate and a photo report.
Our accreditations include CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001, and we are fully insured. We’re also a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease, and we’ve been trading since 2009.

How the visit works
Your staff don’t need to do much on the day. A contact on site lets us in at the agreed time and points us to the system, and we take it from there. Before we leave, the area is tidied and the paperwork follows. We agree a date with you, plan the drive to Fairlands and turn up when the site is quiet.
- Post-clean verification is booked once the clean is done.
- We open the access points used on the clean.
- Grease readings are taken again at set points.
- Photos are taken to show the condition after the clean.
- We report the findings and flag any areas that need more work.
How to prepare
- Have your last certificate or report to hand
- Mention any locked doors, roof access or ceiling voids
- Agree a time when the area can be out of use
Get a fixed quote
Photos are enough for some jobs, while others need a look on site. Larger sites, and anything hidden behind walls, ceilings or floors, are normally surveyed first. Either way, the quote is fixed before any work is booked.

What your team can do, and what needs us
Good housekeeping makes our visits easier, not unnecessary. Regular in-house cleaning slows the build-up, but the parts you cannot see still need a specialist at the right interval.
Logging matters as much as cleaning. A simple log of filter washes, wipe-downs and checks shows an inspector that the system is looked after between visits, next to our reports.
Fairlands questions
Is Fairlands within the area you cover?
Yes. Fairlands is within the area we cover across London and the South East. Just mention lanes, gates or anything else about the site when you book.
Do you clean school canteen extracts around Fairlands out of term?
Yes. Half-terms and the summer break are the natural time for school work. The FSA’s register shows about 14 schools and colleges with food registrations within roughly a mile and a half of Fairlands. Tell us your holiday dates and we’ll book the visit for when the site is empty.
What information do you need?
Some photos and a quick description of the system, with the address and opening hours. If we need more, we’ll ask.
Do you offer emergency callouts?
Yes, day and night, every day of the year. Our office is open from 8am to 6pm on weekdays, and the emergency line covers the rest.
How long does a TR19 inspection take?
As a guide, it takes a couple of hours for a typical kitchen extract system. System size and access decide the rest.
Can you work evenings and weekends?
Yes. Give us your opening hours with your enquiry and we will plan the visit around them.
Where does the waste go?
Waste is contained during the work and removed when we leave, including grease, debris and dirty water. We do not leave it behind.
What’s TR19?
BESA’s ventilation hygiene specification in two main parts: TR19® Grease for kitchen extract systems and TR19® Air for general ventilation. It isn’t legislation, but it’s the standard people check against.

Multi-site and managed buildings
We work for landlords, managing agents and facilities managers as well as the people running the site. Shared systems, like a riser serving several units, need a clear agreement on who books the work, and we are happy to quote for all of it.
Multi-site operators often want one contractor and one number. We cover South East England and London, so visits at different addresses can be planned together and kept on a regular cycle.
What TR19 inspection looks like in Fairlands
According to Food Standards Agency records, there are about 6 pubs, bars and clubs within roughly a mile and a half of the centre of Fairlands. Wherever they cook, the canopy, duct and fan collect grease just as a restaurant’s do. In Fairlands, food businesses are inspected by environmental health officers from Guildford council. They look at how clean the premises and equipment are, and the kitchen extract is part of that. A dated certificate in the maintenance file answers the question before it’s asked. Fairlands sits within the area of Surrey Fire and Rescue Service. Fire and rescue authorities enforce the Fire Safety Order in most non-domestic premises, and in a kitchen that fire risk includes the grease in the extract.
For schools such as Worplesdon Primary School, kitchen extract cleaning is usually booked for the holidays, when the canteen is closed. Kitchens that cook twelve hours or more a day, as some healthcare kitchens do, fall into BESA’s three-monthly minimum; Guildford Hospital is the nearest hospital to Fairlands, about 1.4 miles south.
Fairlands is about 2 miles north-west of Guildford, in Surrey. We carry out TR19 inspection for businesses, landlords and public buildings in Fairlands and the rest of Surrey. Across Surrey, we cover 395 places, and Fairlands is one of them.

What’s near Fairlands
Typical jobs here are in premises near Chitty's Common, Hare and Hounds pub and Kings College Guildford. Fairlands’s nearest station is Guildford station, about 2.4 miles south-east of the centre. A little further out are Guildford Castle (2.8 miles south-east) and Guildford Cathedral Treasury (1.9 miles south-east). For a walk, there’s Littlefield Common and Pewley Hill.
Why deal with it now?
Finding a hotspot early means a targeted spot clean rather than a bigger problem later. Left alone, grease keeps building between cleans. Our emergency line runs 24/7, but a planned visit to Fairlands is calmer for everyone.
The cost depends on how big the system is, the condition it’s in and how easy it is to reach. We give you a fixed price before work begins, so you know where you stand.
Why book with us
- Photo reports with every job
- Every job surveyed first
- Full insurance on every job
- Trading since 2009
What affects the cost of TR19 inspection
Sites vary more than people expect. The main factors:
- Where the site is and how we reach it
- The size of the system
- One-off work versus a regular cycle
- The number of sites or systems
What you pay reflects the actual work. That is why every job is surveyed first, and the price is agreed before any work starts.
What to send for a quote
You do not need the technical terms. It helps if you can send:
- The times we could work without disrupting the site
- Anything you’ve noticed, such as smells, noise, drips or poor airflow
- How we’d reach plant on a roof or in a plant room
- The postcode and the type of business
Every quote begins with a look at the system, from your photos and details or, where that isn’t enough, a survey on site. After that, you get a fixed price for the work, before any work starts.
Signs you need TR19 inspection in Fairlands
Grease in a duct is flammable fuel. Flames from the range can be pulled into the canopy and travel through the ducts to other parts of the building. Measuring it is the first step to keeping it under control.
It’s time to book a visit if you see:
- Systems cleaned on a calendar with no measurements
- Checking the result of a recent clean
- Insurance renewals needing proof of TR19 cleaning
- Ductwork where grease may be over the TR19 limits
If you run a church or community hall kitchen, near St Alban's Church or elsewhere in Fairlands, its extract still collects grease from every lunch and event.
What to look for in a quote
- Whether the quote is based on a survey or photos
- Whether the quote shows VAT
- Whether the figure could change on the day
- What insurance they carry
