TR19 inspection for sites in Elsted

TR19 inspection in Elsted, done properly

Many insurers ask for proof that kitchen extract systems are cleaned and inspected to TR19®. Without it, a claim can be refused or reduced. A TR19 audit sets out the system’s condition, with readings and photos, for sites in Elsted and the rest of West Sussex. If you’re dealing with checking the result of a recent clean and kitchen extract systems with no recent grease readings, we can put it right, from pre-clean surveys, deposit thickness tests and wet film thickness tests onwards.

Rural kitchens often have long, low duct runs through a roof space or along an outside wall, where grease settles in the flat sections. We agree access and timings in advance.

A written report with pictures follows each visit, so there’s a dated record of the work. Where the work is a TR19® Grease clean, the certificate is issued through the BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite portal.

What we are called out for in Elsted

Some parts of a system are hard to reach, and grease can be missed there clean after clean. An inspection of a system in Elsted shows where access panels are missing, so panels can be fitted.

Most sites get in touch when they notice something like this:

  • Parts of the system left out of past cleans
  • Kitchens whose menu or hours have changed
  • Insurance renewals needing proof of TR19 cleaning
  • Ductwork where grease may be over the TR19 limits

Healthcare kitchens can’t easily close, so their extracts are cleaned overnight or between meal services; the nearest hospital to Elsted is Midhurst Community Hospital, about 4.7 miles east.

What to look for in a quote

  • Whether they recommend a next date
  • When they can work, and whether that’s outside your opening hours
  • What happens if part of the system cannot be accessed
  • If the quote is a fixed price or an estimate

Our hiring checklist

Staff cleaning versus specialist work

Some jobs should never be done in-house: opening up ductwork, cleaning fans, drop testing fire dampers and measuring grease call for the right kit, training and safe access. That is our job.

Your own staff can handle the daily basics: wiping down canopy surfaces, cleaning filters and keeping a simple log. What they cannot safely do is clean inside the ductwork, the fan or the risers, which is where we come in.

When something else is needed

Before you book, it helps to know what’s not included:

  • Sections with no access, until panels are fitted
  • Removing the grease, which is a separate clean
  • Design faults in the extract system

Not sure which it is? You can give us a ring on 0345 646 2711 or use the quote form and we will tell you honestly before you book.

Your questions about TR19 inspection in Elsted

Who inspects food businesses in Elsted?

The local authority for Elsted is Chichester council, and its environmental health team does the inspecting. An officer may look up into the canopy, so clean filters on the day and a recent certificate on file both help.

Can the work in Elsted be done at night or at weekends?

Yes, we can come after you close and finish before you open. Your customers, staff or residents in Elsted needn’t be disturbed. Let us know the hours you’re closed and we’ll book within them.

What is TR19?

TR19® is the BESA specification for keeping ventilation systems clean. TR19® Grease, a standalone specification since 2019, covers grease in kitchen extract systems, and TR19® Air covers general supply and extract systems.

How often should a kitchen extract be inspected?

Enough to be sure grease stays within the TR19® Grease figures between cleans. If readings rise, the interval should shorten.

Do you offer emergency callouts?

Yes. For anything urgent, such as a fan failure or damage after a fire, ring the 24/7 line and we will talk you through the next steps.

How much does TR19 inspection cost in Elsted?

The cost depends on the size of the system, its condition, access and timing. Call for a fixed quote, usually ready within one working day.

Can you inspect our extract for our insurance company?

Yes. Our TR19 audits cover readings, photos, access and a recommended cleaning interval. It’s set out for your insurer or broker.

Can one contract cover all our sites?

Yes. We work across South East England and London, so we can schedule a run of sites as one programme. Every site has its own report.

What affects the cost of TR19 inspection

The diagnosis comes before the price. We look at:

  • Access, including roofs, risers and ceiling voids
  • Whether several sites go on one quote
  • The size of the system
  • What state the system is in

Working hours, access and the scale of the site can all change the price. Each of those is built into the quote and give you a fixed price before we start.

What we need to know

When you call or email, it’s useful to have:

  • Problems your staff have spotted
  • Close-ups of filters, grilles, hatches or access panels
  • How we’d reach plant on a roof or in a plant room
  • Wide photos of the system and the area around it

Getting a quote doesn’t take long. Send a few details and photos, and we normally reply with a fixed quote within one working day. If we need to see the system first, we book a survey around your hours.

How the visit works

Night work is normal for us. A lot of visits happen overnight or at weekends, so the site can open as normal afterwards. On site, the work takes a morning or less for one kitchen, more where there are several systems. Visits to a village like Elsted are booked in advance, at a time that suits whoever runs the site.

  1. We go through any past certificates and reports.
  2. We follow the extract from canopy to discharge.
  3. Access panels are located and any missing ones noted.
  4. We measure the grease and photograph each point.
  5. We report back with readings and a fixed quote.

How to prepare

  • Tell us the best time to work, such as after service or at a weekend
  • Arrange a key holder or contact on site
  • Clear the space around the work

Part by part

Canopy and plenum

Filters can look fine while the plenum behind them is heavily coated. So we measure behind the filters, not just in front.

Horizontal duct runs

Grease settles on the floor of horizontal ducts as the air cools. We test at points along the run through access panels.

Keeping the system healthy

To keep the system working properly between visits:

  • Clean or swap grease filters as often as the kitchen needs
  • Have the latest report ready for insurance renewals
  • Keep TR19 certificates, readings and reports together
  • Mention new equipment or longer hours at the next test

If any reading is 500 microns or more, the report flags it for immediate spot cleaning, and we can arrange it.

Fit access panels where the survey finds sections cannot be reached, so grease is not left building in hidden parts.
