TR19 inspection in Elsted Marsh

TR19 inspection in Elsted Marsh, done properly

If you’ve taken over a kitchen in Elsted Marsh and do not know when the extract was last cleaned, an inspection is the place to start. You get readings, photos and a clear view of what’s needed, so the next step is based on facts. We are often asked to deal with ductwork where grease may be over the TR19 limits and insurers asking for TR19 evidence, on pre-clean surveys, insurer audits and access surveys.

Work in a small place like Elsted Marsh starts with a call to agree access and timings, and the clean covers the whole system, as it would anywhere: canopy, filters, duct, fan and discharge, with a certificate and photo report at the end.

The paperwork matters as much as the work. Each visit is written up with photos, listing what was done, anything we couldn’t reach and when the next visit is due. Keep it with your fire safety records so it’s ready for an insurer, fire officer or EHO.

For landlords and multi-site operators

Running several sites is easier with one contractor. We cover South East England and London, so a run of sites can go into one programme and kept to a regular schedule.

We regularly work with managing agents. Tell us the site, the work and the access arrangements, and we will send a fixed quote.

Grease, kitchens and Elsted Marsh

Environmental health officers from Chichester council inspect food businesses in Elsted Marsh. They look at how clean the premises and equipment are, and the kitchen extract is part of that. Before-and-after photos from each clean are a simple way to show the extract is in hand. At about 47 miles from central London, Elsted Marsh sits well inside the area we cover. We work evenings, overnight and at weekends, so the visit fits around the site.

If you run catering at a healthcare site, such as a hospital like Midhurst Community Hospital about 3.5 miles east, the extract may need cleaning more often than a part-time kitchen. Cowdray House, about 3.5 miles east, is one of the historic houses near Elsted Marsh; if you run event catering at a venue like that, cleans can be booked between functions.

Elsted Marsh is about 6 miles east of Petersfield, in West Sussex. Sites in Elsted Marsh get the same service as everywhere we cover: a survey first, a fixed quote, work timed around your hours and a report with photos. 371 places in West Sussex are on our list, from busy centres to quieter spots. We also work in Portsmouth, about 17 miles from Elsted Marsh.

Every address in GU29 is covered for TR19 inspection, from the main roads to the quietest streets. We also cover the places around Elsted Marsh: Ingrams Green (1 mile east), Dumpford (1 mile north), Trotton (1 mile north), Elsted (1 mile south-west) and Didling (1 mile south). Larger places within reach include Bognor Regis (14 miles south-east), Chichester (10 miles south), Emsworth (10 miles south-west), Portfield (10 miles south), Yapton (14 miles south-east) and East Wittering (15 miles south).

How the job changes from site to site

Canopy and plenum

Filters can look fine while the plenum behind them is heavily coated. So we measure behind the filters, not just in front.

Restaurants, pubs and hotels

Inspections are done when the kitchen is closed or quiet so the kitchen keeps cooking.

What we do, step by step

A visit follows the same order every time: protect the area, make the system safe, carry out the TR19 inspection, clear away and hand over the paperwork. The visit itself takes an hour or two for a single kitchen, longer for a large or complex system. For a village or hamlet like Elsted Marsh, tell us about narrow lanes, gates and parking when you book.

  1. Post-clean verification is booked once the clean is done.
  2. The same access points are opened up.
  3. We repeat the WFTT or DTT readings.
  4. We photograph each area to record how it was left.
  5. We report the findings and flag any areas that need more work.

Before we arrive

  • Name a contact who can let us in at the agreed time
  • Mention any sign-in, permit or induction we need
  • Tell us about access, such as roof hatches, plant rooms, ceilings or locked areas

Get a fixed quote

We don’t publish a price list, because every site is different. Instead, we look at your site first, from pictures or a survey, and then send you a fixed quote. To start, call us on 0345 646 2711 or use the quote form.

When to call us in Elsted Marsh

Kitchens change: a new menu, longer hours or more frying can all add grease. The old cleaning schedule may not match the kitchen any more.

Clients normally contact us when they notice one of these:

  • Sections of duct that cannot be reached
  • Sites with gaps in their extract records
  • Insurers asking for TR19 evidence
  • Systems that need surveying before cleaning

Where a hall near St George's Church, or anywhere in Elsted Marsh, hosts lunch clubs or events, its extract gathers grease just as a café’s does.

What to look for in a quote

  • Whether the quote shows VAT
  • What happens if part of the system cannot be accessed
  • How they set the interval to the next visit
  • Whether the price is fixed

Our hiring checklist

What a clean won’t put right

We will not sell you work that doesn’t address the problem, so these are the things it won’t cover:

  • Design faults in the extract system
  • Sections with no access, until panels are fitted
  • Heavy deposits found on test, which still need cleaning

If in doubt, call 0345 646 2711 or drop us a line and we’ll say what we think before booking.

What the work covers

  • Wet film thickness tests
  • Access surveys
  • Post-clean checks
  • Deposit thickness tests
  • Pre-clean surveys
  • Insurer audits

What staff can safely do

In-house cleaning and specialist cleaning do different jobs. A daily filter wipe and a weekly filter wash keep grease down at the front of the system, but they do not reach the grease that builds up further in. Reaching it takes a specialist with the right equipment.

Your own staff can handle the daily basics: wiping canopies, washing grease filters and recording it in a log. Inside the ducts, risers and fan is specialist work, which is where we come in.

Your questions about TR19 inspection in Elsted Marsh

Can the work in Elsted Marsh be done at night or at weekends?

Yes, evening, overnight and weekend work is normal for us. It means the site in Elsted Marsh keeps running as normal. Just call 0345 646 2711 or email us with your opening times and we’ll plan around them.

Do you work in villages like Elsted Marsh?

Yes. Villages and rural sites across the South East are part of our work, Elsted Marsh included. Just mention lanes, gates or anything else about the site when you book.

What is grease thickness testing?

Readings are taken using the Wet Film Thickness Test or the Deposit Thickness Test, and set against the TR19® Grease figures.

Do you have a 24/7 line?

Yes, day and night, every day of the year. Office hours are Monday to Friday, 8am to 6pm, and the emergency line covers the rest.

When should we have our next grease test?

We suggest a next test date in every report, taking the readings and the kitchen’s hours into account. A risk assessment based on measured grease should set the interval.

What about areas you can’t get to?

Anything we can’t reach goes on the report, with photos where possible, and we explain what access is needed, such as extra access panels in ductwork.

Can we book visits on a schedule?

Yes. Scheduled maintenance plans are part of what we do, set at the interval the system needs. The report from each visit recommends the next date.

What does TR19 inspection cost?

We do not publish prices, because the cost depends on the job: the size of the system, its condition, access and when we can work. We fix the price before any work starts.

Why deal with it now?

Don’t wait for an EHO visit or insurance renewal to find gaps in your extract records. A recent inspection report means you’re ready when asked. In a place like Elsted Marsh, ductwork and fans are easy to forget until something goes wrong.

One small site or a whole estate, the quote is built the same way: what needs doing, how we get to it and when. You will have a fixed price before work begins.
