TR19 inspection in Eastrop

Your questions about TR19 inspection in Eastrop

Who enforces fire safety at workplaces in Eastrop?

That’s Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service. It’s worth keeping your fire risk assessment, TR19® certificates and photo reports together, ready to show.

Do you clean school canteen extracts around Eastrop out of term?

Yes, holiday work suits schools best. There are about 28 schools, colleges and universities on the FSA’s food hygiene register within about 1.5 miles of Eastrop. You can ring 0345 646 2711 or use the quote form with the dates the site is empty.

Do you offer emergency callouts?

Yes, 24/7. Our office is open from 8am to 6pm on weekdays, and the emergency line covers the rest.

Do we have to follow TR19 by law?

No. TR19® is a specification, not a statute. In practice, an insurer can refuse or reduce a claim without proof of TR19 cleaning, so it matters in practice.

Can you quote from pictures?

Yes, where the pictures show enough. If not, a site survey comes first, then a fixed quote.

What does TR19 inspection cost?

The cost depends on the size of the system, its condition, access and timing. Ask us for a fixed quote and we will usually reply within one working day.

How much time does an inspection need?

Typically, the inspection takes an hour or two for a single kitchen, longer for a large or complex system. The size of the system and the access make the difference.

How often should grease be tested?

Enough to be sure grease stays within the TR19® Grease figures between cleans. If readings rise, the interval should shorten.

About our TR19 inspection in Eastrop

After a clean, post-clean verification checks the result, with new readings and photos of the cleaned areas. It gives you evidence of how the system was actually left. If you are dealing with ductwork where grease may be over the TR19 limits and uncertainty over how often to clean, we can help.

In a smaller place like Eastrop, the kitchens with extract systems are more likely to be a pub, a café, a takeaway or a school or care home kitchen than a big restaurant. A kitchen that cooks fewer hours still builds up grease, so cleaning is planned around how much it cooks and what the readings show.

We’re CHAS and SafeContractor accredited, we hold ISO 9001 and we are fully insured. We are also a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease, trading since 2009.

Leave it or put it right?

Without readings, you are guessing when to clean. If grease reaches 500 microns anywhere, TR19® Grease calls for immediate spot cleaning, which you will not know without measuring. Booking now means the visit to Eastrop is planned around you, not forced by a breakdown.

Working hours, access and the scale of the site all affect the cost. We take each of them into account and give you a fixed price before work begins.

Multi-site and managed buildings

Running several sites is easier with one contractor. We work across London and the South East, so visits at different addresses can be planned together and kept to a regular schedule.

The Fire Safety Order 2005 puts the duty to manage fire risk on the responsible person, and that can be the employer, the owner, a landlord, a facilities manager or a managing agent. Where responsibility is shared, records matter even more.

What affects the quote in Eastrop

We don’t publish a price list, because sites vary so much. What we look at:

  • The scale of the work
  • Whether we need access equipment or extra panels
  • Working hours and out-of-hours timing
  • A single visit or a regular plan

No two sites are the same, so each one gets its own fixed quote. Size, access, the condition of the system and when we can work all make a difference.

What we need to know

When you call or email, it’s useful to have:

  • The times we could work without disrupting the site
  • Photos showing the whole system and its surroundings
  • The roof, plant room or outside wall the system runs to
  • The postcode and the type of business

To get a fixed quote, call us on 0345 646 2711, or send details by email with the site type, your trading hours and a short description of the system. Photos and the last report, if you have one, make the quote quicker. We usually come back within one working day.

The process

We turn up at the time agreed with you, often in the evening, overnight or at the weekend so the site keeps working. Anything that needs to be off for the work is switched off and left to cool first, and the area around the work is covered and protected. The work itself takes a morning or less for one kitchen, more where there are several systems. Evenings, weekends or a closed day all work for a site in a place like Eastrop.

  1. We go through any past certificates and reports.
  2. The layout is traced from the canopy to the discharge.
  3. Access panels are located and any missing ones noted.
  4. Grease readings are taken and photos recorded.
  5. You get a report and a fixed quote for the clean.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Arrange a key holder or contact on site
  • Clear loose items from the work area
  • Find the previous report, if there is one

How to get a quote

Some systems can be priced from photos; others need a survey. Big or complicated sites, and systems that are hard to see in pictures, get a survey first. Either way, the quote is fixed before any work is booked.

Advice

Part by part

Restaurants, pubs and hotels

BESA’s minimum for heavy use of 12 to 16 hours a day is a clean every 3 months, and readings show whether that’s enough.

Canopy and plenum

Filters can look fine while the plenum behind them is heavily coated. That is why we test behind them.

Grease, kitchens and Eastrop

Look up Eastrop on the FSA’s food hygiene register and you’ll find about 108 restaurants, cafés and works canteens and about 34 sandwich bars and takeaways within roughly a mile and a half of the centre of Eastrop. Where they cook under a canopy, a grease reading is the way to tell whether the extract is due a clean. Environmental health officers from Basingstoke and Deane council inspect food businesses in Eastrop. Extraction counts as kitchen equipment, so its condition can come up on the day. Keeping each certificate and photo report on file helps show the extract is looked after. Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service covers Eastrop. The Fire Safety Order puts the duty on whoever runs a kitchen to control its fire risk, and a greasy duct is fuel.

Bursars and site managers at schools such as The Costello School tend to book extract cleaning for when the kitchen is empty. If you run a café or takeaway near Basingstoke station, early starts and late finishes leave little time to clean, so overnight extract cleaning suits.

Eastrop is about 1 mile east of Basingstoke, in Hampshire. Whether your site is in the middle of Eastrop or further out, TR19 inspection is available to all kinds of commercial premises, from a single unit to a large public building. Across Hampshire, we cover 683 places, and Eastrop is one of them. Our Reading page covers sites nearby (13 miles or so).

Work in RG21 and RG24 is surveyed, quoted and booked the same way as anywhere else. Local streets include New Road, Vyne Road and Goat Lane, and we cover them all for TR19 inspection. Main roads around Eastrop include the A3010, which makes travel easy for evening and night visits. Neighbouring places we cover for TR19 inspection include Oakridge (1 mile north-west), Viables (1 mile south), Lychpit (1 mile east), Popley (1 mile north) and Old Basing (2 miles east). Within a short drive, we also cover Farnborough (14 miles east), Fleet (11 miles east), Aldershot (14 miles east), Alton (9 miles south-east), Yateley (12 miles north-east) and Tadley (7 miles north-west).

Around Eastrop

Typical jobs here are in premises near Fairfields Primary School, Eastrop Park and The Angel pub, among other places. There’s a railway station in Eastrop itself: Basingstoke station. A little further out are Festival Place (under half a mile west) and Basingstoke and North Hampshire Hospital (1.6 miles north-west). Not far away are Farleigh Hill and Daneshill Park Woods.

Common problems we fix in Eastrop

Looking at a canopy tells you little about what’s in the duct. Clean filters can hide a heavy layer behind them, so readings are the reliable guide.

The symptoms we’re asked about most are:

  • Uncertainty over how often to clean
  • Extracts that may be over the 200 micron mean
  • Sections of duct that cannot be reached
  • Systems that need surveying before cleaning

Kitchens that cook twelve hours or more a day, as some healthcare kitchens do, fall into BESA’s three-monthly minimum; Basingstoke and North Hampshire Hospital is the nearest hospital to Eastrop, about 1.6 miles north-west.

What a clean will not put right

We won’t sell you work that doesn’t address the problem, so here are the limits:

  • The grease itself, which needs a full or spot clean
  • Installation problems, which fall under design guidance such as DW172
  • Mechanical faults in the extract

If you are not sure, just call us on 0345 646 2711 or drop us a line and we’ll give you a straight answer before booking.
