TR19 inspection in Chale
TR19® Grease says grease should not exceed a mean of 200 microns between cleans, while a reading of 500 microns or more anywhere calls for immediate spot cleaning. Grease testing shows which side of those lines you’re on. The work covers wet film thickness tests, post-clean checks and access surveys, and people most often call us about cleaning intervals that may not suit the kitchen and an insurer’s request for a TR19 audit.
In a village or hamlet like Chale, the kitchens that need extract cleaning are normally a pub, a school, a care home or a hall kitchen, wherever there is one. Every one of them still needs its extract kept clear of grease.
Our accreditations include CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001, and we’re fully insured. We’re also a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease, and we’ve been trading since 2009.

Multi-site and managed buildings
Whether it’s one building or many, you get the same standard: a survey first, a fixed quote, the work timed around the site and a report with pictures.
For anyone managing more than one site, we can schedule visits across all of them on one quote. Every building has its own written report, so records stay tidy.
Honest limits
To be straight with you, some problems need a different fix:
- The responsible person’s own fire risk assessment
- The grease itself, which needs a full or spot clean
- Design faults in the extract system
If in doubt, call 0345 646 2711, or send details by email and we’ll say what we think.
Parts of the system we cover
- Access surveys
- Wet film thickness tests
- Pre-clean surveys
- Insurer audits
- Post-clean checks
- Deposit thickness tests
Keeping the system healthy
Once we have finished, these simple steps help:
- Share inspection reports with your insurer or broker when asked
- Wipe the canopy surfaces regularly
- Tell us if menus or opening hours change
- Flag oily drips near the extract
For an insurer audit, send them the report as it is, with readings, pictures and any areas not accessible.
Revisit the cleaning interval whenever the menu or hours change. A quick grease test answers the question.
Leave it or put it right?
If a kitchen in Chale has been cleaned on the same calendar for years, there’s no way to know if that interval is right without measuring. Testing gives you the evidence to set it properly. With notice, the visit to Chale can be fitted around your bookings and events.
Working hours, access and the scale of the site can all change the price. We take each of them into account and give you a fixed price before we start.

How the visit works
Our technicians bring everything the work needs, from protective sheeting to tools and access equipment. All we need from you is clear access and the right equipment switched off. The visit takes an hour or two for a single kitchen, longer for a large or complex system. Somewhere like Chale, lanes, gates and parking are worth mentioning in advance.
- Post-clean verification is booked once the clean is done.
- The same access points are opened up.
- We repeat the WFTT or DTT readings.
- Photos are taken to show the condition after the clean.
- We report the findings and flag any areas that need more work.
Preparing for the visit
- Tell us about access, such as roof hatches, plant rooms, ceilings or locked areas
- Mention any parking or loading restrictions
- Tell us the best time to work, such as after service or at a weekend
Ask for a quote
Getting a quote does not take long. Send a few details and pictures, and we normally reply with a fixed quote within one working day. If we need to see the system first, we book a survey around your hours.
Advice
What the work involves, part by part
Extract fan and discharge
A greasy fan works harder and wears faster. Readings show if it needs attention before the next clean.
Restaurants, pubs and hotels
BESA’s minimum for heavy use of 12 to 16 hours a day is a clean every 3 months, with testing showing whether more is needed.
Chale kitchens: local notes
Chale is within about 1 mile of the coast. Near the sea, the fan and discharge at the top of a kitchen extract corrode faster than they would inland. Food Standards Agency records list about 3 cafés, restaurants and staff canteens in and around Chale, up to about a mile and a half out. A WFTT or DTT reading tells each of those kitchens whether its grease is staying under the 200-micron mean. The fire and rescue service for Chale is Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service. In most workplaces, including commercial kitchens, it’s the fire and rescue authority that enforces the Fire Safety Order.
Historic houses near Chale, such as Wolverton Manor about 3.4 miles north-west, are a reminder that older buildings with event kitchens can have long, awkward duct routes. Church and community hall kitchens, near St Andrew's Church or anywhere around Chale, are easy to forget, but their extracts collect grease like any other. Kitchens that cook twelve hours or more a day, as some healthcare kitchens do, fall into BESA’s three-monthly minimum; Whitecroft Hospital is the nearest hospital to Chale, about 5.2 miles north.
Chale is about 7 miles south of Newport, in the Isle of Wight. We provide TR19 inspection for commercial premises of every kind in Chale and the rest of the Isle of Wight. We cover 125 places across the Isle of Wight, from busy centres to quieter spots. Our Portsmouth page covers sites nearby (18 miles or so).
Every address in PO38 is covered for TR19 inspection, from busy streets to back roads. If you need TR19 inspection at premises on Church Place, Upper House Lane and Blythe Shute or anywhere close by, our technicians can take on the work. Close by, we work in Blackgang (1 mile south-east), Pyle (1 mile north-west), Chale Green (1 mile north), Atherfield Green (1 mile north-west) and Niton (2 miles south-east). We also work in nearby towns such as Newport (7 miles north), Ryde (11 miles north-east), Cowes (11 miles north), Sandown (8 miles north-east), Shanklin (7 miles east) and Ventnor (5 miles east). Island and remote sites take a little more planning, so tell us where you are when you ask for a quote for TR19 inspection.

In-house cleaning or a specialist?
Day-to-day cleaning is something your team can do: wiping down canopy surfaces, cleaning filters and keeping a simple log. What they can’t safely do is clean inside the ductwork, the fan or the risers, which is where we come in.
When your team notices a problem between visits, such as dripping grease, a noisy fan, a smell or a filter that won’t come clean, they should report it rather than try to fix it. We will take a look and send you a fixed quote.
Questions from Chale
Is TR19 inspection any different in a coastal place like Chale?
Yes, to a degree: at about 1 mile from the coast, Chale gets salt-laden air that corrodes metal faster. A fan housing that’s rusting near the coast can fail sooner, so it’s worth catching early.
Can you come to Chale after we close?
Yes, we can come after you close and finish before you open. The site is handed back ready to open. When you give us a ring on 0345 646 2711 or use the quote form, mention when the site is quiet.
How often should a kitchen extract be inspected?
That varies with the kitchen’s daily use. BESA’s minimum cleaning intervals are every 3, 6 or 12 months for heavy, moderate and light use, and testing shows if your kitchen needs more.
Do you work in Chale?
Yes. Our technicians work in Chale, within the South East and London area we cover.
Can you verify a clean after it’s been done?
A post-clean check records grease readings and pictures after the work, for our cleans and other firms’ alike.
What happens if you can’t reach some of it?
The report shows them clearly. In ductwork, new access panels are often the answer, which we can install.
Why survey before a clean?
We survey, measure and photograph the system first. The survey can be done from pictures and details or on site, as suits the job.
Do you have a 24/7 line?
Yes. There’s a 24/7 emergency line for anything that cannot wait until a planned visit. Call us any time and explain what’s happened.
