Kitchen extract cleaning in SS17

Our kitchen extract cleaning service in SS17

Think of it as a health check for the kitchen’s airways: survey first, clean second, sign-off last. That clean bill of health comes as a TR19 certificate and a photo report, issued through the BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite portal. The work covers plenums and filters, horizontal duct runs and extract fans, and people most often call us about years of baked-on grease in the ducts and an extract that no longer clears the smoke.

When we arrive, we check the system against the survey or the photos you sent. If anything is different, we talk it through with the person on site before carrying on. From there, it takes as long as the system needs, from a few hours to several planned visits.

  1. You send photos or we visit, and the system is surveyed from canopy to discharge.
  2. Grease thickness is measured and the price is fixed before work starts.
  3. On the night, the equipment is off and cool and the kitchen is sheeted.
  4. Filters, canopy and plenum are cleaned, then the ducts, risers, fan and discharge.
  5. Readings are repeated, photos taken, and your TR19 certificate and photo report issued.

What affects the price in SS17

When the work has to happen, how we reach it and how big the site is all affect the cost. Each of those is built into the quote, and the price is fixed before any work starts.

What you get with us

  • Member of BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease
  • A written report with pictures after every visit

How to get a quote

Photos are the quickest way to a quote: the system from a couple of angles, plus any access panels or hatches. Add the site type and your opening hours, and many jobs can be priced from that alone.

Local landmarks in Stanford-le-Hope

We work in commercial kitchens and buildings around Hassenbrook School Specialist Technology College, Arthur Bugler Primary School and Inn On The Green. You’ll also find St John the Evangelist (0.5 miles east) and Grove House Wood (1 mile south-west). Stanford-le-Hope’s nearest station is Stanford-Le-Hope station, about 0.9 miles south-west. Other landmarks nearby include Eastgate Shopping Centre (3.3 miles north) and Basildon University Hospital (2.5 miles north). For a walk, there’s Stanford Wharf RSPB reserve.

Kitchen extract cleaning around SS17

Across SS17, from Stanford-le-Hope, Balstonia and Corringham outwards, kitchens range from town-centre restaurants and takeaways to pubs, hotels, schools and care homes. Each extract is cleaned to the same TR19® standard, canopy to discharge.

We work across London and the South East, and SS17 is part of that area. Every job is surveyed first and quoted at a fixed price, wherever it is in SS17. Near the coast in SS17, salt and damp speed up corrosion in fans, ducts and dampers, and corrosion is one of the things that can stop a fire damper closing.

Stanford-le-Hope: Commuter trade near Stanford-Le-Hope station can mean long cooking hours, and long hours put a kitchen into BESA’s more frequent cleaning bands. Term dates shape school work: for a school like Arthur Bugler Primary School, an extract clean fits neatly into a half-term or summer break.

Part by part

Extract fan and discharge

The fan pulls the air through the whole system, and grease that gets past everything else ends up on its blades. It’s isolated, opened and cleaned as part of the TR19 clean.

Restaurant and pub kitchens

Busy restaurant and pub kitchens often cook for long hours, frying and grilling, so their cleaning interval is often 3 or 6 months under BESA guidance. We clean after close or before opening.

Multi-site and managed buildings

Whether it’s one building or many, you get the same standard: a survey first, a fixed quote, the work timed around the site and a report with photos.

When the building owner and the occupier are different, the lease normally sets out who maintains what. We can quote either party and send the paperwork to whoever needs it.

Staff cleaning versus specialist work

For ventilation and air handling systems, in-house care is mostly about checks: clear grilles, a log of filter changes and reporting anything odd. The inside of ducts and units needs a specialist.

Logging matters as much as cleaning. A dated log of in-house cleaning and checks shows an inspector that the system is looked after between visits, alongside our reports.

Leave it or put it right?

Every week without a clean adds another layer. BESA guidance says the mean should not go above 200 microns between cleans, and anywhere reaching 500 microns or more needs a spot clean right away. Heavy build-up takes longer to remove than regular cleans.

Questions to ask before you book

  • What insurance they carry
  • When the next visit should be, and why
  • How areas they can’t reach will be recorded
  • Whether the whole system is included, or only the parts that are easy to reach

Between visits

A little care between visits keeps the system in better shape. Our advice:

  • Keep the extract on whenever the range is lit
  • Never cook with filters missing or out of place
  • Report grease drips, smells or fan noise right away
  • Don’t let the canopy gutters overflow

We hand the kitchen back clean, with the sheeting removed and waste taken away. Waste grease and water are contained and removed, so you can start cooking as normal.

Stick to the cleaning interval on the certificate. BESA guidance links the minimum interval to daily cooking hours, so a change in hours may mean a change in interval, and grease readings will show it.

Common questions in SS17

Is a quote from photos possible?

Typically, yes. Send a few wide photos plus close-ups of panels, filters or grilles, and we typically come back within one working day. If photos are not enough, we will survey first.

Why do insurers care about extract cleaning?

Many policies require TR19 cleaning, and insurers often ask to see the certificate. Without proof, a claim can be refused or reduced, so it’s worth checking your policy wording.

Which parts of the extract do you clean?

All of it, from the canopy through to the discharge. Sections with no access are listed on the report, and extra panels can be fitted.

Is there a survey before the work?

Yes. Photos often do the job, and larger or hidden systems get a visit.

Will I get a certificate after the clean?

A TR19 certificate and a photo report. The certificate is issued through the BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite portal, and the report includes before and after photos, grease readings and the recommended next clean date.

What happens to the waste?

We contain it and take it with us. Grease, debris and waste water are collected as the work goes on, so it does not spread.

What information do you need?

The site address, the type of premises and your opening hours, plus pictures of the system and your last certificate or report if you have one.
