Kitchen extract cleaning in SS12

Our kitchen extract cleaning service in SS12

The canopy over the range is only the start of a kitchen extract system. Behind it sit the plenum and grease filters, then the ductwork, risers, extract fan and discharge, and grease settles in every one of them. Our clean follows the air from canopy to discharge, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease. The work covers extract fans, plenums and filters and vertical risers, and the jobs we see most are grease drips onto cooking equipment and stale cooking odours from the system.

On the day, we arrive at the time agreed with you, which is often after service, overnight or at a weekend. Anything that needs to be off for the work is switched off and left to cool first, and floors and nearby surfaces are sheeted. The work itself takes a few hours for a small kitchen, longer for a large system.

  1. First comes a survey of the whole system, by photos or a visit.
  2. Set points are tested for grease thickness and the quote is fixed before any work starts.
  3. With the kitchen closed and equipment off and cool, the area is sheeted.
  4. We clean the canopy, plenum, filters, ducts, risers, fan and discharge.
  5. We test again, photograph the result and issue your TR19 certificate and photo report.

Around Wickford

We work in commercial kitchens and buildings around St Andrew, Oakfield Primary School and Beauchamps High School. Wickford’s nearest station is Wickford station, about 0.7 miles north-west of the centre. Nearby you’ll also find Rayleigh Castle (3.6 miles east) and Battlesbridge Motorcycle Museum (2.2 miles north-east). Open spaces near Wickford include Shotgate Thickets.

Kitchen extracts across SS12

From Wickford, Shotgate and North Benfleet to its smaller places, SS12 has kitchens of every size. Each extract is cleaned to the same TR19® standard, canopy to discharge.

London and the South East cover everything from city basements to rural kitchens. Wherever the site is in SS12, the work is done to the same TR19® standard.

Wickford: Church and community hall kitchens, near St Andrew or anywhere around Wickford, are easy to forget, but their extracts collect grease like any other. Term dates shape school work: for a school like Oakfield Primary School, an extract clean fits neatly into a half-term or summer break.

What your team can do, and what needs us

Day-to-day cleaning is something your team can do: wiping down canopy surfaces, cleaning filters and keeping a simple log. What they cannot safely do is clean inside the ductwork, the fan or the risers, which is where we come in.

Keep a record of what your team does. A dated log of in-house cleaning and checks helps show that the system is managed between specialist visits, alongside our reports.

Aftercare tips

How long the results last depends on use and care. We suggest:

  • File each certificate with the fire risk assessment
  • Make sure every filter is fitted before cooking
  • Keep the baffle filters clean
  • Keep the extract on whenever the range is lit

When the clean is finished, grease readings are taken again at the same points, giving you before and after readings alongside the pictures. A TR19 certificate follows, issued through the BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite portal.

Keep the outside of the canopy wiped and any grease cups emptied. It will not replace a TR19 clean, but it slows what reaches the duct.

Honest limits

We won’t sell you work that does not address the problem, so these are the things it won’t cover:

  • An undersized canopy or fan
  • Faulty fire dampers in the duct
  • Damaged duct sections that need replacing

What happens if it’s left?

Putting it off simply moves the grease further down the duct. Over time, soft grease bakes into a harder, thicker crust, which is slower to clean. Staying on a regular cycle keeps each clean manageable.

What your quote should include

  • Whether the quote is based on a survey or photos
  • What insurance they carry
  • What’s included in the scope, part by part
  • How VAT is shown on the quote

What affects the cost of kitchen extract cleaning

A fixed price needs a few facts first. We check:

  • How easy every part is to reach
  • The condition of the system
  • Whether several sites go on one quote
  • Where the site is and how we reach it

We do not list prices on the website, because the cost depends on the site in front of us. For a fixed quote, call us on 0345 646 2711 or email us, and we’ll talk you through it.

What to send for a quote

You do not need the technical terms. It helps if you can send:

  • How we’d reach plant on a roof or in a plant room
  • Any previous report or certificate
  • Photos showing the whole system and its surroundings
  • The site address and the type of premises

Photos are the quickest way to a quote: wide shots of the system, close-ups of anything that worries you and how we’d get to it. Add the site type and your opening hours, and we can price many jobs without a visit.

SS12: your questions answered

Do you look at the system first?

Yes. Photos often do the job, while bigger or harder-to-see systems are surveyed on site.

Is TR19 a legal requirement?

The legal duty sits in the Fire Safety Order 2005 rather than in TR19 itself. TR19 is the industry benchmark for meeting that duty in a kitchen extract, and an insurer may refuse or reduce a claim without it.

What about areas you cannot get to?

We record them on the report, with pictures where possible, and we explain what access is needed, such as extra access panels in ductwork.

What’s TR19?

BESA’s ventilation hygiene specification in two main parts: TR19® Grease for kitchen extracts and TR19® Air for supply and extract systems. It is not legislation, but it’s the standard people check against.

Will the clean disrupt our service?

We clean while the kitchen is closed, so evenings, overnight, early mornings and weekends are all options. We need the equipment switched off and cooled first.

What does kitchen extract cleaning cost?

The cost depends on the size of the system, its condition, access and timing. Call for a fixed quote, normally ready within one working day.

What do you do to protect the area?

Protection goes down first: floor sheeting and covers over nearby surfaces and equipment. We tidy up and take our waste away before we leave.
