Kitchen extract cleaning for sites in Charter Alley

In-house cleaning or a specialist?

Good housekeeping makes our visits easier, not unnecessary. Regular in-house cleaning slows the build-up, but hidden parts of the system still need specialist attention.

A few tasks are always specialist work: entering ducts, working on fans, testing dampers and taking grease readings need training, the right equipment and safe access. Leave those to us.

Commercial kitchen extraction cleaning in Charter Alley

A kitchen extract system is far more than the canopy you can see. Beyond the filters run the plenum, the ducts and risers, the fan and the point where air leaves the building, and each part collects grease. A TR19® Grease clean deals with the whole route, not only the parts on show. Typical jobs include proof of cleaning requested by an insurer and a new tenancy or takeover with no cleaning history, across horizontal duct runs, plenums and filters and extract fans. Hood cleaning is where most enquiries from Charter Alley start: a clean that goes past the canopy into the duct and fan, backed by a certificate.

What can be cleaned depends on what can be reached. Sections without access panels are recorded on the report, and new panels can be fitted so they’re cleaned next time.

In a small place like Charter Alley, kitchens are often in older or extended buildings, with long single-storey duct runs, where grease settles in the flat sections. Access, parking and timings are agreed before the day.

Duct Doctor has been trading since 2009, and we are a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease. We also hold CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001, and we’re fully insured.

How the visit works

When we arrive, we check the system against the survey or the pictures you sent. If anything is different, we talk it through with the person on site before carrying on. After that, the work takes a few hours for a small kitchen, longer for a large system. Seeing the system in pictures first means the trip to Charter Alley can be planned properly.

  1. We survey the system first, from your photos and details or on a site visit.
  2. Grease readings are taken at set points and you get a fixed quote.
  3. On the day, cooking equipment is switched off and left to cool, and everything nearby is sheeted.
  4. The whole route is cleaned, from the canopy through the ductwork to the fan and the discharge.
  5. We test again, photograph the result and issue your TR19 certificate and photo report.

Charter Alley: your questions answered

Do you cover smaller places like Charter Alley?

Yes, we work in villages as well as towns, and Charter Alley is covered. Photos of the system and directions to the site help us plan the visit.

Do you do school kitchen extract cleaning in Charter Alley in the summer holidays?

Yes. Half-terms and the summer break are the natural time for school work. With about 2 schools and colleges on the FSA’s register within roughly a mile and a half of Charter Alley, it pays to plan holiday dates ahead. You can give us a ring on 0345 646 2711 or drop us a line with the dates the site is empty.

What types of premises do you cover?

Any commercial site with kitchens or ventilation, from a small pub to a hospital. Hotels, schools, care homes, offices, shops and leisure sites are all part of our work.

What does TR19 mean?

TR19® is BESA’s specification for ventilation hygiene. TR19® Grease, a standalone specification since 2019, covers grease in kitchen extract systems, while TR19® Air covers other supply and extract ductwork.

Will my insurer ask for a TR19 certificate?

Extract grease is fuel for a kitchen fire, so many insurers want evidence it’s being cleaned to TR19. Each clean gives you a certificate and photo report to show them.

How often should a kitchen extract be cleaned?

That comes down mainly to daily cooking hours. BESA’s minimums run from every 3 months for heavy use to every 12 months for light use. Your report gives a recommended next clean date.

Is TR19 a legal requirement?

Strictly, the legal duty comes from the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, not from TR19. TR19 is the industry benchmark for meeting that duty in a kitchen extract, and an insurer may refuse or reduce a claim without it.

How much does kitchen extract cleaning cost?

Every site is different, so each gets its own fixed quote. To get one, phone us on 0345 646 2711 or drop us a line and tell us about the site and its opening hours.

What we are called out for in Charter Alley

What’s on the menu matters as much as how much is cooked. Frying, grilling and roasting send far more fat into the canopy than steaming or boiling, so two kitchens with the same hours can need very different intervals.

If you notice any of these, it’s worth a diagnosis:

  • Grease drips onto cooking equipment
  • An inspection that picked up a dirty extract
  • Heavy grease build-up inside the duct runs
  • Poor airflow at the canopy

If you look after a school kitchen, at a school such as The Priory Primary School or anywhere near Charter Alley, the holidays are the usual time for a TR19® clean.

Our hiring checklist

How we price kitchen extract cleaning

A fixed price needs a few facts first. We look at:

  • How many systems or sites are involved
  • Working hours and out-of-hours timing
  • Site requirements such as sign-in and permits
  • One-off work versus a regular cycle

What you pay reflects the actual work. That is why every job is surveyed first, and the price is agreed before any work starts.

Helping us quote

Photos let us diagnose from a distance. The most useful are:

  • Problems your staff have spotted
  • Any access panels or hatches you can see
  • Wide pictures of the system and the area around it
  • The roof, plant room or outside wall the system runs to

Need a price for kitchen extract cleaning? Please call us on 0345 646 2711 or email us and tell us about the site. We will explain what we’d do and send a fixed quote before you commit to anything.

Keeping the system healthy

After the visit, a few habits help the work last:

  • Wipe the canopy down at the end of each day
  • Diarise the next clean as soon as you get the certificate
  • Tell us when the extract starts to drip or smell
  • Keep the extract on whenever the range is lit

You get a photo report after every clean. Before and after photos show each part of the system, alongside a list of what was cleaned, anything out of reach and the recommended next clean date.

Clean the grease filters often, not just on clean day. Clean, well-fitted filters catch more fat before it reaches the duct, so the ductwork stays cleaner for longer.

Charter Alley kitchens: local notes

Kitchens in Charter Alley get their food hygiene inspections from Basingstoke and Deane council. They look at how clean the premises and equipment are, and the kitchen extract is part of that. Our report lists what was cleaned and when, which is useful to have ready. We cover Charter Alley, about 47 miles from central London, as part of our work across London and the South East. We work evenings, overnight and at weekends, so the visit fits around the site.

Older buildings often hide long, awkward duct runs, and if you run a kitchen at a historic venue in the area (The Vyne is about 2.6 miles east), access may need planning. If you run catering at a healthcare site, such as a hospital like Park Prewett Hospital about 2.7 miles south-east, the extract may need cleaning more often than a part-time kitchen.

Charter Alley is about 3 miles south of Tadley, in Hampshire. Charter Alley gets the same approach as every site we work on: diagnosis first, a fixed price, out-of-hours working where needed and a written report with photos. Charter Alley is one of 683 places in Hampshire we cover for kitchen extract cleaning. You can also see our page for Reading, roughly 12 miles from Charter Alley.

We cover every part of RG26 for kitchen extract cleaning and the streets around it. Whether your site is on Old Chapel Lane, Sand Martin Close and White Hart Lane or anywhere close by, we can help. We also cover Ramsdell (1 mile west), West Heath (1 mile north-west), Pamber End (1 mile north-east), Monk Sherborne (1 mile south-east) and Salters Heath (1 mile east). Larger places within reach include Basingstoke (4 miles south-east), Fleet (14 miles east), Alton (14 miles south-east), Yateley (14 miles east), Tadley (3 miles north) and Hook (8 miles east).

What’s near Charter Alley

For rail, the closest station is Bramley (Hants) station, roughly 3.8 miles east of the centre. Well-known places in the area include Park Prewett Hospital (2.7 miles south-east) and Calleva Museum (3.4 miles north-east). Green spaces nearby include Daneshill Park Woods.

What happens if it’s left?

There’s no law that names TR19, but the Fire Safety Order 2005 still applies. The responsible person must assess and reduce fire risk, and in a kitchen that means keeping extract grease under control. Cleaning to TR19 is the recognised way to show you’ve done it. A fault that closes a site in a village like Charter Alley affects everyone who depends on it.

You won’t find a price list here, because each job is priced on what it involves. For a fixed quote, call 0345 646 2711 or email us, and we will explain what it covers.
