Our kitchen extract cleaning service in HP23

Few kitchens can stop cooking for a day so the extract can be cleaned. We work evenings, overnight and at weekends, or during holidays where a site closes for them. Equipment is switched off and left to cool, the area is sheeted, and the kitchen is handed back ready to cook. The work covers canopies and hoods, discharge points and vertical risers, and the jobs we see most are fat running down the canopy edge and stale cooking odours from the system.

There’s very little for your team to do on the day. A contact on site lets us in at the agreed time and points us to the system, and the rest is down to us. Afterwards, the area is left tidy and the written report follows.

  1. You send pictures or we visit, and the system is surveyed from canopy to discharge.
  2. We take grease readings at set points and give you a fixed quote.
  3. On the night, the equipment is off and cool and the kitchen is sheeted.
  4. Filters, canopy and plenum are cleaned, then the ducts, risers, fan and discharge.
  5. Readings are repeated, photos taken, and your TR19 certificate and photo report issued.

Pricing in HP23

The cost depends on how big the system is, what state it’s in and how easy it is to reach. You get a fixed price before we start, so you know where you stand.

Ask for a quote

Photos are the quickest way to a quote: wide shots of the system, close-ups of anything that worries you and how we’d get to it. Tell us what kind of site it is and when it’s open, and we can price many jobs without a visit.

Near you in Tring

We work in commercial kitchens and buildings around Church of St Peter St Paul (church of England), Bishop Wood Church of England Junior School and Tring School and the streets around them. Also close by are Tring Park (0.9 miles south) and The Black Horse pub (less than half a mile south). The closest station to Tring is Tring station, about 1.8 miles east. A little further out are Pitstone Green Museum (2.6 miles north) and Stoke Mandeville Hospital (5.9 miles west). The countryside around Tring includes Pavis Wood and College Lake nature reserve.

Kitchen extracts across HP23

Our kitchen extract cleaning work across HP23 takes in places such as Tring, Wigginton and Wilstone and the villages in between. Every place on our HP23 list (20 in all) is covered, and kitchens are cleaned around their opening hours, overnight and at weekends included.

HP23 is within the area we cover, which takes in London and the South East. Every job is surveyed first and quoted at a fixed price.

Tring: School kitchens, at schools like Bishop Wood Church of England Junior School for example, are typically cleaned in the holidays so no lunches are lost. Volunteers running a hall kitchen near Church of St Peter St Paul (church of England), or anywhere in Tring, may not know when the extract was last cleaned, and a grease test settles it.

What your team can do, and what needs us

A few tasks are always specialist work: opening up ductwork, cleaning fans, drop testing fire dampers and measuring grease need training, the right equipment and safe access. Leave those to us.

When your team notices a problem between visits, like drips, unusual noise, smells or damaged filters, they should report it rather than try to fix it. We’ll take a look and give you a fixed quote.

When something else is needed

Some problems need a different service or another trade:

  • Ductwork that’s corroded, split or leaking (that’s for a ductwork contractor)
  • A damper that sticks or has a damaged link
  • A fan motor or bearings that have failed (that needs a fan repair or replacement)

Keeping the system healthy

Results last longer with the right care. We suggest:

  • Run the extract fan throughout cooking
  • Empty any grease troughs or cups on the canopy
  • Flag any change in how the extract sounds or works
  • Keep the TR19 certificate and photo report in the maintenance log

Every clean ends with a photo report. Before and after pictures show each part of the system, alongside a list of what was cleaned, anything out of reach and the recommended next clean date.

Tell whoever looks after the system when something changes. Grease dripping from the canopy, a burning smell or a fan that sounds rough are all signs of build-up, and a grease thickness test can confirm it.

Different parts, different methods

Restaurant and pub kitchens

Losing a service is not an option for most restaurants and pubs. Overnight and weekend cleans keep the kitchen trading, and hand back a clean kitchen ready to cook.

Canopy and plenum

Behind the grease filters sits the plenum, which daily cleaning never reaches. We take the filters out and clean the plenum and housing thoroughly.

Why it fails

How fast grease builds up depends mostly on how long the kitchen cooks each day. Under BESA guidance, heavy use of 12 to 16 hours a day means a clean at least every 3 months, moderate use every 6 months and light use every 12. They are minimums: measured grease levels set the real interval.

What we are most often called out for:

  • A kitchen taken over without any extract records
  • Fat running down the canopy edge
  • An inspection that picked up a dirty extract
  • A TR19 certificate needed for the insurer

Questions from HP23

What paperwork comes with a kitchen extract clean?

Every clean comes with a TR19 certificate and a photo report. Keep them in the maintenance log with the fire risk assessment so they’re to hand when an insurer asks.

What is TR19?

BESA’s ventilation hygiene specification in two main parts: TR19® Grease for kitchen extracts and TR19® Air for supply and extract systems. It is not law, but it’s the benchmark.

How much does kitchen extract cleaning cost in HP23?

We don’t publish prices, because the cost depends on the job: the size of the system, its condition, access and when we can work. We fix the price before any work starts.

What’s the right cleaning interval for a kitchen extract?

That comes down mainly to daily cooking hours. Heavy use of 12 to 16 hours a day calls for a clean at least every 3 months under BESA guidance, and lighter use less often. Your report gives a recommended next clean date.

How long will the clean take?

Short systems are done in a few hours, while long runs and tall risers take longer and may need more than one visit. Your quote says how long to expect.

Do you work with multi-site operators?

Yes. Send the list of sites and the work at each and we will quote them together.

Do you survey before quoting?

Yes. Photos often do the job, and larger or hidden systems get a visit.
