Kitchen extract cleaning in Tring, Hertfordshire
One call covers TR19 Grease cleaning of complete kitchen extract systems, from canopy to discharge in Tring: survey, fixed quote, work and sign-off. Fully insured, with CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001.
- Rancid smells from grease in the duct
- A new tenancy or takeover with no cleaning history
- Grease dripping from the canopy or filters
What we are called out for in Tring
How fast grease builds up depends mostly on how long the kitchen cooks each day. BESA guidance sets minimum cleaning intervals of every 3 months for 12 to 16 hours a day, 6 months for 6 to 12 hours, and 12 months for 2 to 6 hours. Those are minimums, and grease readings can show a kitchen needs cleaning sooner.
The symptoms we are asked about most are:
- A kitchen with no current TR19 certificate
- Proof of cleaning requested by an insurer
- An inspection that picked up a dirty extract
- Grease smells coming from the extract
If you run a church or community hall kitchen, near Church of St Peter St Paul (church of England) or elsewhere in Tring, its extract still collects grease from every lunch and event.
What your quote should include
- Which accreditations they hold, and whether you can check them
- Whether a survey comes first
- What insurance they carry
- Whether the price is fixed
How we handle kitchen extract cleaning in Tring
We’ve been trading since 2009, cleaning kitchen extracts across the South East and London. As a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, we clean to BESA TR19® Grease, and we hold CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001 and are fully insured. The work covers plenums and filters, discharge points and canopies and hoods, and the jobs we see most are heavy grease build-up inside the duct runs and fat running down the canopy edge. If you need a kitchen extract clean in Tring, you get one team and one number for every site, wherever you are in Hertfordshire.
Before we clean, we look at where the grease is: wet film or deposit thickness readings show which parts of the duct need the most attention, and readings afterwards go into your report.
In a smaller place like Tring, many kitchens sit in older buildings or later extensions, with the duct running through a roof space or up an outside wall. Flat runs collect grease and need proper access to clean.
It’s worth checking any contractor’s accreditations. Ours are BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite membership, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease, plus CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001, and we’re fully insured.

What kitchen extract cleaning looks like in Tring
Look up Tring on the FSA’s food hygiene register and you’ll find about 18 restaurants, cafés and canteens and about 12 takeaways within roughly a mile and a half of the centre of Tring. Those that fry, grill or roast under a canopy need their extracts cleaned at intervals set by how long they cook. In Tring, food businesses are inspected by environmental health officers from Dacorum council. They look at how clean the premises and equipment are, and the kitchen extract is part of that. A TR19® certificate and photo report after each clean gives you a record to show an inspector. Tring sits within the area of Hertfordshire Fire and Rescue Service. In most workplaces, including commercial kitchens, it’s the fire and rescue authority that enforces the Fire Safety Order.
Cholesbury Manor House, about 2.9 miles south, is one of the historic houses near Tring; if you run event catering at a venue like that, cleans can be booked between functions. School kitchens, at schools like Bishop Wood Church of England Junior School for example, are usually cleaned in the holidays so no lunches are lost.

Looking after it afterwards
Results last longer with the right care. Here’s what we suggest:
- Keep the extract on whenever the range is lit
- Keep grease collection points emptied
- Wash or exchange the filters often
- File each certificate with the fire risk assessment
The kitchen is left clean and ready for the next service. Waste grease and water are contained and removed, so you can start cooking as normal.
Report drips, smells or a noisy fan early. Drips, odours and fan noise often mean grease is building, and a grease thickness test can confirm it.
Why act early in Tring
Any food business in Tring can expect visits from the council’s environmental health officers, and a greasy canopy or dripping filters won’t go unnoticed. Keeping the extract clean helps the whole kitchen pass muster. In a smaller place like Tring, a site that has to close is felt quickly.
Whatever the type of site, the quote works the same way: how much there is, how we reach it, what state it’s in and when we can work. Ask for a fixed quote and we’ll go through it with you.

What happens on the day
Everything the job needs comes with us, including protection sheets, the right tools and access kit. All we need from you is clear access and the right equipment switched off. The visit takes a few hours for a small kitchen, longer for a large system. Visits to a place like Tring are planned ahead, so we arrive with what the survey says the job needs.
- We survey the system first, from your pictures and details or on a site visit.
- We measure the grease at set points along the system, then give you a fixed price.
- Once the kitchen has closed and the equipment has cooled, we sheet and protect the area.
- Canopy, plenum, filters, duct runs, risers, fan and discharge are all cleaned to TR19® Grease.
- We test again, photograph the result and issue your TR19 certificate and photo report.

Related advice
Different parts, different methods
Extract fan and discharge
The discharge is where air leaves the building, and grease can collect there too. It’s cleaned as far as safe access allows, and any limits are recorded.
Grease filters
Filters need cleaning far more often than the duct, and a filter exchange service can take that off your hands. Keeping them clean helps the rest of the system stay cleaner.
What staff can safely do
Good housekeeping makes our visits easier, not unnecessary. Clean filters and tidy surfaces slow the build-up, but the parts you can’t see still need a specialist at the right interval.
In-house cleaning and specialist cleaning do different jobs. A daily filter wipe and a weekly filter wash keep grease down at the front of the system, but grease that has passed the filters is out of reach. That part needs specialist access and equipment.
Tring: your questions answered
Can you come to Tring after we close?
Yes. We work evenings, overnight and at weekends. The work in Tring can fit around your hours. Your opening times are the first thing we ask for.
Can you clean school kitchen extracts in Tring during the holidays?
Yes. Half-terms and the summer break are the natural time for school work. Food Standards Agency records list about 3 schools, colleges and universities with registered kitchens within about a mile and a half of Tring. Tell us your holiday dates and we will book the visit for when the site is empty.
Can you look after several sites?
Yes. Our area covers London and the South East, so we can schedule a run of sites as one programme. Every site has its own report.
Do you work in Tring?
Yes. We work in Tring and across Hertfordshire, as part of our work across South East England and London. To book, phone us on 0345 646 2711 or drop us a line.
How long does a kitchen extract clean take?
That depends on the size of the system, the amount of grease and the number of access points. As a guide, it takes one visit for most kitchens, while large or complex systems may need more than one.
How do you keep the site clean during the work?
Protection goes down first: floor sheeting and covers over nearby surfaces and equipment. The area is left tidy, with our waste taken away.
Do you offer emergency callouts?
Yes, 24/7. Office hours are Monday to Friday, 8am to 6pm, and the emergency line covers the rest.
How far ahead should we book?
The more notice, the better, especially for out-of-hours work. Quotes usually come back within one working day, and emergencies are covered by our 24/7 line.
What a clean won’t put right
It’s worth knowing the limits before booking:
- A fan motor that has burnt out
- A duct that is holed or coming apart
- An undersized canopy or fan
