Our kitchen extract cleaning service in HP5
Few kitchens can stop cooking for a day so the extract can be cleaned. We work evenings, overnight and at weekends, or during holidays where a site closes for them. Equipment is switched off and left to cool, the area is sheeted, and the kitchen is handed back ready to cook. Common call-outs are for grease drips onto cooking equipment and rancid smells from grease in the duct, across vertical risers, extract fans and canopies and hoods.
On the day, we arrive at the time agreed with you, which is often after service, overnight or at a weekend. Anything that needs to be off for the work is switched off and left to cool before any work starts, and the area around the work is covered and protected. The work itself takes one visit for most kitchens, while large or complex systems may need more than one.
- We survey the system, from your photos or on site, canopy to discharge.
- We take grease readings at set points and give you a fixed quote.
- The kitchen is closed, the equipment cooled and everything nearby protected.
- Filters, canopy and plenum are cleaned, then the ducts, risers, fan and discharge.
- Readings are repeated, photos taken, and your TR19 certificate and photo report issued.
What affects the price in HP5
The price reflects the work, not guesswork. That’s why we survey first, from photos or on site, and the price is agreed before we start.
Why book with us
- Fixed quotes from a survey or pictures
- One contact for all your sites in London and the South East
- BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease
- Ventilation hygiene specialists since 2009
How to get a quote
Quoting starts with a diagnosis, from your photos and details or, where that is not enough, a survey on site. Then we send a fixed price so you know the cost before we start.
Near you in Chesham
Typical jobs here are in premises near The Jolly Sportsman pub, Elmtree Infant and Nursery School and Chiltern Hills Academy and the streets around them. For rail, the closest station is Amersham station, about 2.6 miles south. A little further out are Amersham Hospital (3.4 miles south) and Hawridge Court (2.2 miles north). Not far away are Sands Bank.
Where we work in HP5
In HP5, a busy kitchen in a place such as Chesham, Pond Park and Chesham Bois and a quiet village kitchen need very different cleaning intervals. Grease readings and BESA’s minimum intervals set the schedule for each.
We work across London and the South East, and HP5 is part of that area. Each job starts with a survey and a fixed quote, wherever it is in HP5.
Chesham: Healthcare kitchens can’t easily close, so their extracts are cleaned overnight or between meal services; the nearest hospital to Chesham is Amersham Hospital, about 3.4 miles south. School kitchens, at schools like Elmtree Infant and Nursery School for example, are usually cleaned in the holidays so no lunches are lost.
Between visits
A little care between visits keeps the system in better shape. Our advice:
- Flag any change in how the extract sounds or works
- Keep grease collection points emptied
- Keep the extract on whenever the range is lit
- Clean grease off the canopy surfaces regularly
Every clean ends with a photo report. It shows the system before and after, part by part, alongside a list of what was cleaned, anything out of reach and the recommended next clean date.
Run the extract whenever the kitchen is cooking. Switching it off early leaves vapour to settle on the canopy and plenum, and the next clean has more to do.
What the work involves, part by part
Grease filters
Baffle filters are cleaned as part of every TR19 clean, and put back so they seat correctly. Damaged ones are noted on the report.
Ductwork and risers
Long flat runs of duct are where grease collects. We open access panels along the route and clean each section, recording any that can’t be reached.
What kitchen extract cleaning can’t fix
To be straight with you, there are a few things this work will not fix:
- A fan motor that has burnt out
- A damper that sticks or has a damaged link
- An undersized canopy or fan
For landlords and multi-site operators
From a single site to a large estate, you get the same standard: diagnosis, a fixed price, work booked around your hours and a written report with photos.
Managing agents often deal with us directly. Send the address, what’s needed and how access works, and we’ll send a fixed quote.
How we price kitchen extract cleaning
Some jobs are bigger than they look, and some smaller. What affects the quote:
- Travel, parking and unloading
- One-off work versus a regular cycle
- The times the site is available
- The number of sites or systems
What you pay depends on the size of the system, the condition it’s in and access to every part of it. You get a fixed price before any work starts, so you know where you stand.
What to send for a quote
When you call or email, it’s useful to have:
- How we’d reach plant on a roof or in a plant room
- Detail shots of panels, filters and grilles
- When the site is open and when it’s quiet
- Any symptoms, from odd noises to smells or leaks
We do not publish a price list, because every site is different. Instead, we look at your site first, from photos or a survey, and then send you a fixed quote. To start, ring 0345 646 2711 or send us an email.
Common questions in HP5
Is TR19 a legal requirement?
No law names TR19 directly, but the responsible person still has a legal duty under the Fire Safety Order 2005. TR19 is the standard insurers and fire officers expect, and many policies require it.
Is there a survey before the work?
Yes, every time. We diagnose before we treat: the survey tells us what the system needs and how to reach it, and the quote is based on that.
Do you work with multi-site operators?
Yes. One number covers all your sites in our area, and visits can be set on a regular cycle.
What is TR19?
A BESA specification in two main parts: TR19® Grease for kitchen extract systems and TR19® Air for general ventilation. It isn’t law, but it’s the benchmark.
What do you do with what you remove?
We contain it and take it with us. We collect grease, debris and waste water as we go rather than letting it spread.
Which sectors do you work in?
Any commercial site with kitchens or ventilation, from a single café to a large school. Hotels, schools, care homes, offices, shops and leisure sites are all part of our work.
How long will the clean take?
Length of duct, grease levels and access all affect it. Most jobs take anything from a few hours to a full night, depending on the size of the system.
