Kitchen duct cleaning in Burcott

Duct Doctor has been cleaning kitchen extract systems since 2009. As a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, we clean to BESA TR19® Grease, and we hold CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001 and are fully insured. The work covers extract fans, horizontal duct runs and vertical risers, and the jobs we see most are rancid smells from grease in the duct and grease dripping from the canopy or filters. Kitchens in Burcott book us for TR19 cleaning for three reasons: the insurer asked, the EHO asked, or the canopy is dripping. Either way, the answer is the same: a proper clean and the paperwork to match.

We clean every reachable part of the system in Burcott: canopy, plenum, filters, ducts, risers and fan, then record anything that couldn’t be reached.

Rural kitchens often have long, low duct runs through a roof space or along an outside wall, and those horizontal sections are where grease settles. Access, parking and timings are agreed before the day.

The report is your system’s health record: a dated account with pictures of everything we did. Grease extract cleans are also certificated to TR19® Grease through the BESCA VHE portal and sits alongside the report.

Looking after it afterwards

A little care between visits keeps the system in better shape. Our advice:

  • Keep the baffle filters clean
  • File each certificate with the fire risk assessment
  • Flag any change in how the extract sounds or works
  • Keep to the recommended cleaning interval

If we couldn’t get into part of the duct, the report says so plainly. A TR19 report should record what wasn’t cleaned as well as what was, and we can fit access panels so it’s reached next time.

Run the extract whenever the kitchen is cooking. Switching it off early leaves vapour to settle on the canopy and plenum, and the next clean has more to do.

Different parts, different methods

Ductwork and risers

Vertical risers carry the air up through the building, and grease runs down their walls and pools at the base. Access panels along the riser let us clean it in sections.

Extract fan and discharge

The fan pulls the air through the whole system, and grease that gets past everything else ends up on its blades. We isolate it, open it up and degrease it.

When something else is needed

An honest diagnosis matters more to us than a booking, so here’s what kitchen extract cleaning will not do:

  • Fat blocking the kitchen drains
  • A canopy that is too small or a system that was badly designed
  • A fan motor that has burnt out

Not sure which it is? You can call us on 0345 646 2711, or email photos and we will tell you honestly.

What happens if it’s left?

There’s no law that names TR19, but the Fire Safety Order 2005 still applies. It puts a duty on the responsible person to assess and reduce fire risk, which in a kitchen includes the grease in the extract. TR19 is the benchmark insurers, fire officers and EHOs look to. Rural sites can’t always move to another kitchen or room when something fails.

What you pay depends on the size of the system, the condition it’s in and access to every part of it. You get a fixed price before we start, so you know where you stand.

Staff cleaning versus specialist work

For ventilation and air handling systems, in-house care is mostly about checks: keeping grilles clear, noting unusual noise or smells and logging filter changes. Cleaning inside ducts and units is specialist work.

Day-to-day cleaning is something your team can do: wiping canopies, washing grease filters and recording it in a log. Inside the ducts, risers and fan is specialist work, and that is where we come in.

Landlords, agents and facilities managers

We regularly work with managing agents. Send the address, what’s needed and how access works and we’ll come back with a fixed quote.

If you look after several sites, we can plan visits across the whole estate and price them together. Each site gets its own report and photos, so each one has its own record.

How the visit works

On the day, we arrive at the time agreed with you, which is often after service, overnight or at a weekend. Equipment that has to be off is switched off and allowed to cool first, and the area around the work is covered and protected. The work itself takes one visit for most kitchens, while large or complex systems may need more than one. Visits to a village like Burcott are booked in advance, at a time that suits whoever runs the site.

  1. You send photos or we visit, and the system is surveyed from canopy to discharge.
  2. We take grease readings at set points and send you a fixed quote.
  3. The kitchen is closed, the equipment cooled and everything nearby protected.
  4. We work through the system from the canopy to the fan and discharge.
  5. Readings are repeated, pictures taken, and your TR19 certificate and photo report issued.

Preparing for the visit

  • Allow time for equipment near the work to be turned off and cool down
  • Dig out any earlier paperwork for the system
  • Let us know about parking and loading

How to get a quote

We do not publish a price list, because no two systems are the same. Instead, we look at your site first, from photos or a survey, and then give you a fixed quote. To get going, call us on 0345 646 2711, or send details by email.

Is there a survey before the work?
