Kitchen extract cleaning for sites in Fontwell

What affects the cost of kitchen extract cleaning

There’s no set price list, because no two systems are the same. What we look at:

  • What state the system is in
  • Travel, parking and unloading
  • Access, including roofs, risers and ceiling voids
  • When the work can happen, such as evenings, overnight or weekends

Every site is different, so we price each one individually. The size of the job, how we reach it, its condition and the working hours all make a difference.

Helping us quote

To speed up the quote, please include:

  • When the site is open and when it’s quiet
  • Problems your staff have spotted
  • Photos showing the whole system and its surroundings
  • The roof, plant room or outside wall the system runs to

We don’t publish a price list, because every site is different. We look at your system first, from pictures or on a visit, and then give you a fixed quote. To start, call 0345 646 2711 or drop us a line.

How we handle kitchen extract cleaning in Fontwell

Every time food is cooked, warm vapour carries fat up into the extract. It cools inside the duct and settles as a sticky film that thickens month by month. That film is fuel, and cleaning the whole system is how you keep it under control. If you have an inspection that picked up a dirty extract and stale cooking odours from the system, we can help. Kitchen extract cleaning, TR19 cleaning, extraction cleaning: whatever you call it, in Fontwell it means the same thing to us: the whole system, cleaned and certificated.

Grease that collects out of sight, behind the filters and along the duct, is what insurers and fire officers worry about, which is why a TR19® clean in Fontwell goes well beyond the canopy.

Rural kitchens often have long, low duct runs through a roof space or along an outside wall, and those horizontal sections are where grease settles. Access, parking and timings are agreed before the day.

It’s worth checking any contractor’s accreditations. Ours are BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite membership, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease, plus CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001, and we are fully insured.

Leave it or put it right?

Every week without a clean adds another layer. Under BESA guidance, grease shouldn’t exceed a mean of 200 microns between cleans, and 500 microns or more at any point needs immediate spot cleaning. Heavy build-up takes longer to remove than regular cleans. A planned visit to Fontwell is easier to arrange than an emergency callout.

The cost depends on how big the system is, the condition it’s in and access to every part of it. We give you a fixed price before any work starts, so there are no surprises.

Common questions in Fontwell

Is Fontwell within the area you cover?

Yes, Fontwell is part of our area, however small the site. Let us know about access, parking and anything unusual about getting there when you book.

Who enforces fire safety at workplaces in Fontwell?

Fontwell is in the area of West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service. TR19® is not law, but it’s the benchmark many fire officers and insurers look to when they ask how often the extract is cleaned.

What should I send you?

Only a few details: where it is, what kind of site, when it’s open and the access. Photos and any previous paperwork make it quicker. Then call 0345 646 2711, or send details by email.

Can we book visits on a schedule?

Yes. We run scheduled maintenance contracts, set at the interval the system needs. The report from each visit recommends the next date.

When do you clean the extract?

When the kitchen is closed, at whatever time suits you. We need the equipment cool, and we leave the kitchen ready to cook.

How far ahead should we book?

The more notice, the better, particularly for night and weekend visits. We typically quote within one working day, and emergencies are covered by our 24/7 line.

Can you quote from pictures?

Yes, where the pictures show enough. Otherwise, we book a survey at a time that suits the site, then a fixed quote.

Do I have to clean my extract to TR19 by law?

Strictly, the legal duty comes from the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, not from TR19. TR19 is the industry benchmark for meeting that duty in a kitchen extract, and an insurer may refuse or reduce a claim without it.

What kitchen extract cleaning cannot fix

Kitchen extract cleaning cannot fix everything, and we will tell you before we start. It does not solve:

  • Blocked drains from a neglected grease trap (a separate service)
  • A fan motor that has burnt out
  • Damaged duct sections that need replacing

If in doubt, give us a ring on 0345 646 2711 or use the quote form and we’ll say what we think before booking.

Where we work

  • Extract fans
  • Plenums and filters
  • Discharge points

Kitchen extract cleaning around Fontwell

There are about 9 restaurants, cafés and works canteens within about 1.5 miles of central Fontwell, according to the Food Standards Agency’s register. Those that fry, grill or roast under a canopy need their extracts cleaned at intervals set by how long they cook. In Fontwell, food businesses are inspected by environmental health officers from Arun council. An officer looking round a kitchen will see the canopy, and grease there is hard to miss. A TR19® certificate and photo report after each clean gives you a record to show an inspector. The fire and rescue service for Fontwell is West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service. Fire and rescue authorities enforce the Fire Safety Order in most non-domestic premises, and in a kitchen that fire risk includes the grease in the extract.

School kitchens, at schools like Ormiston Six Villages Academy for example, are typically cleaned in the holidays so no lunches are lost. If you run catering at a historic house or estate in the area (Goodwood House is about 4.2 miles west), event kitchens in older buildings often have awkward duct runs that need planning.

The process

We turn up at the time agreed with you, which is often after service, overnight or at a weekend. Equipment that has to be off is switched off and allowed to cool first, and floors and nearby surfaces are sheeted. On site, it takes as long as the system needs, from a few hours to several planned visits. A quick note on how to find the site and where to park makes a visit to Fontwell run smoothly.

  1. We start with a survey, so we know every part of the system before we quote.
  2. We measure the grease at set points along the system, then give you a fixed price.
  3. Once the kitchen has closed and the equipment has cooled, we sheet and protect the area.
  4. Canopy, plenum, filters, duct runs, risers, fan and discharge are all cleaned to TR19® Grease.
  5. We test again, photograph the result and issue your TR19 certificate and photo report.

Before we arrive

  • Let us know about permits to work or site inductions
  • Clear loose items from the work area
  • Make sure equipment near the work can be switched off and left to cool

Getting a quote

The quickest way to a quote is to send pictures: wide shots of the system, close-ups of anything that worries you and how we’d get to it. Tell us what kind of site it is and when it’s open, and we can price many jobs without a visit.

Keeping the system healthy

After the visit, a few habits help the work last:

  • Do not let the canopy gutters overflow
  • Flag any change in how the extract sounds or works
  • Wipe the canopy down at the end of each day
  • Keep to the recommended cleaning interval

The certificate records when the clean was done, where and by whom. File it with the fire risk assessment and the maintenance log, so it’s to hand when an insurer, fire officer or EHO asks.

Tell whoever looks after the system when something changes. Grease dripping from the canopy, a burning smell or a fan that sounds rough are all signs of build-up, and a grease thickness test can confirm it.

What we’re called out for in Fontwell

The reason for all this is fire. Flames from a pan or grill can be pulled into the canopy by the fan, and once grease in the duct catches, fire can spread through the building’s ductwork. That’s why controlling extract grease belongs in the fire risk assessment.

Most sites get in touch when they notice something like this:

  • Grease drips onto cooking equipment
  • Heavy grease build-up inside the duct runs
  • An overdue clean flagged by an EHO or fire officer
  • Missing paperwork after a change of operator

Healthcare kitchens cannot easily close, so their extracts are cleaned overnight or between meal services; the nearest hospital to Fontwell is Arundel and District Hospital, about 3.7 miles east.

Questions to ask before you book

  • What paperwork you get at the end
  • Which accreditations they hold, and whether you can check them
  • Proof of insurance
  • How they set the interval to the next visit

Our hiring checklist

Landlords, agents and facilities managers

We work for landlords, managing agents and facilities managers as well as the people running the site. Shared systems, like a riser serving several units, need a clear agreement on who books the work, and we are happy to quote for all of it.

Multi-site operators often want one contractor and one number. We cover South East England and London, so a run of sites can go into one programme and kept to a regular schedule.
