TR19 kitchen extract cleaning in East Horsley

Duct Doctor has been cleaning kitchen extract systems since 2009. We’re a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease, and we are fully insured, with CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001. If you’re dealing with years of baked-on grease in the ducts and cleaning needed before an insurance renewal or survey, we can put it right, from plenums and filters, discharge points and horizontal duct runs onwards. Kitchens in East Horsley book us for TR19 cleaning for three reasons: the insurer asked, the EHO asked, or the canopy is dripping. Either way, the answer is the same: a proper clean and the paperwork to match.

A kitchen running fryers and chargrills all day builds up grease much faster than one that mostly steams and boils, so the interval is set by what you cook as well as how long.

In a smaller place like East Horsley, the kitchens with extract systems are more likely to be a pub, a café, a takeaway or a school or care home kitchen than a big restaurant. Quieter kitchens still collect grease in the duct, just more slowly, so cleaning is planned around how much it cooks and what the readings show.

Each visit ends with a written report and pictures, so there’s a dated record of the work. Where the work is a TR19® Grease clean, the certificate is issued through the BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite portal.

The process

We’re used to working while the site is closed. A lot of visits happen overnight or at weekends, so a kitchen or building can carry on as usual the next day. The visit itself takes one visit for most kitchens, while large or complex systems may need more than one. For a place like East Horsley, we load the van from the survey notes so the work can be done in one visit where possible.

  1. You send pictures or we visit, and the system is surveyed from canopy to discharge.
  2. We take grease readings at set points and send you a fixed quote.
  3. The kitchen is closed, the equipment cooled and everything nearby protected.
  4. Filters, canopy and plenum are cleaned, then the ducts, risers, fan and discharge.
  5. Readings are repeated, photos taken, and your TR19 certificate and photo report issued.

How to prepare

  • Make sure equipment near the work can be switched off and left to cool
  • Tell us about access, such as roof hatches, plant rooms, ceilings or locked areas
  • Find the previous report, if there is one

How to get a quote

Quotes are quick. Call or email with a few details and you’ll typically have a fixed price within one working day. Where a survey is needed, we arrange a time that suits the site.

Do you need kitchen extract cleaning in East Horsley?

A lot of duct grease gets there because the filters let it through. Damaged, missing or overloaded filters let grease straight past, and it doesn’t stop until it reaches the fan.

If you notice any of these, it’s worth a diagnosis:

  • Cleaning needed before an insurance renewal or survey
  • A smoky, hot kitchen with weak extraction
  • Rancid smells from grease in the duct
  • Extraction mentioned at an environmental health visit

For kitchens close to Horsley station, where the day often starts early and ends late, the extract can be cleaned overnight.

What to look for in a quote

  • Whether the work can be done while the site is closed
  • Whether the quote shows VAT
  • What happens if part of the system can’t be accessed
  • When the next visit should be, and why

Questions to ask before you book

Staff cleaning versus specialist work

Some jobs should never be done in-house: entering ducts, working on fans, testing dampers and taking grease readings need training, the right equipment and safe access. That’s our job.

When your team notices a problem between visits, like drips, unusual noise, smells or damaged filters, they should report it rather than try to fix it. We can diagnose it and quote.

How the job changes from site to site

Restaurant and pub kitchens

Grills, fryers and woks send a lot of fat into the extract, and measured readings show whether the minimum interval is enough.

Canopy and plenum

The canopy catches the vapour, and the plenum behind the filters is where it first condenses. We clean both inside and out, including the filter housing.

When it’s something else

Kitchen extract cleaning can’t fix everything, and we’ll tell you before we start. It doesn’t solve:

  • Ductwork that’s corroded, split or leaking (that’s for a ductwork contractor)
  • An undersized canopy or fan
  • Fat blocking the kitchen drains

If you’re not sure, just ring 0345 646 2711 or email us and we will give you a straight answer.

What the work covers

  • Canopies and hoods
  • Plenums and filters
  • Horizontal duct runs
  • Extract fans
  • Vertical risers
  • Discharge points

What affects the cost of kitchen extract cleaning

The diagnosis comes before the price. We look at:

  • When the work can happen, such as evenings, overnight or weekends
  • How easy every part is to reach
  • What state the system is in
  • Whether several sites go on one quote

The price reflects the work, not guesswork. That’s why every job is surveyed first, and the price is agreed before work begins.

What we need to know

To help us quote quickly, send us:

  • Any access panels or hatches you can see
  • When the site is open and when it’s quiet
  • Photos showing the whole system and its surroundings
  • The site address and the type of premises

We don’t publish a price list, because no two systems are the same. We look at your system first, from pictures or on a visit, and then send you a fixed quote. To get going, call us on 0345 646 2711, or email photos.

East Horsley questions

Who is the fire and rescue service for East Horsley?

East Horsley is in the area of Surrey Fire and Rescue Service. TR19® isn’t law, but it’s the benchmark many fire officers and insurers look to when they ask how often the extract is cleaned.

Do you do school kitchen extract cleaning in East Horsley in the summer holidays?

Yes, holiday work suits schools best. With about 6 schools and colleges on the FSA’s register within roughly a mile and a half of East Horsley, it pays to plan holiday dates ahead. Tell us your holiday dates and we’ll book the visit for when the site is empty.

What’s the right cleaning interval for a kitchen extract?

Under BESA guidance, the minimum depends on how long you cook each day: every 3 months for 12 to 16 hours, 6 months for 6 to 12 hours and 12 months for 2 to 6 hours. Grease readings can show a shorter interval is needed.

Can you set up regular visits?

Yes. Regular plans can run on 3, 6 or 12-monthly cycles, depending on what the system needs.

Can you look after several sites?

Yes. One number covers all your sites across London and the South East, with visits on a regular schedule.

Where does the waste go?

It’s contained and taken away. Grease, debris and waste water are collected as the work goes on, so it doesn’t spread.

Is TR19 a legal requirement?

Strictly, the legal duty comes from the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, not from TR19. In practice, TR19 is how kitchens show they’re managing grease, and many insurers ask for proof of it.

Which kinds of sites do you work on?

Restaurants and pubs, hotels, schools and colleges, hospitals and care homes, offices and retail, as well as food production and leisure sites.

Aftercare tips

After the visit, a few habits help the work last:

  • Keep to the recommended cleaning interval
  • Empty any grease troughs or cups on the canopy
  • File each certificate with the fire risk assessment
  • Flag any change in how the extract sounds or works

Every clean ends with a photo report. It shows the system before and after, part by part, alongside a list of what was cleaned, anything out of reach and the recommended next clean date.

Tell whoever looks after the system when something changes. Drips, odours and fan noise often mean grease is building, and a grease thickness test can confirm it.
