About our kitchen extract cleaning in Crow

The ducts are where most of the grease hides. We reach horizontal runs and vertical risers through access panels, scraping heavy deposits by hand before degreasing. Any section we can’t reach is recorded on the report and extra access panels can be added. Common call-outs are for proof of cleaning requested by an insurer and an overdue clean flagged by an EHO or fire officer, across discharge points, canopies and hoods and plenums and filters. Some call it canopy cleaning, others extract cleaning or duct cleaning, but in Crow, as everywhere, the insurer wants the full system cleaned, not just the hood.

Most kitchens in Crow fall into one of BESA’s three bands: every 3 months for 12–16 hours, every 6 months for 6–12 hours and every 12 months for 2–6 hours, with grease readings setting the real interval.

In a village or hamlet like Crow, the kitchens that need extract cleaning are typically a pub, a school, a care home or a hall kitchen, wherever there is one. Every one of them still needs its extract kept clear of grease, whatever the size of the place.

Think of the report as the system’s health record: a dated account with photos of everything we did. Grease extract cleans are also certificated to TR19® Grease through the BESCA VHE portal and sits alongside the report.

Crow: your questions answered

Can school kitchens in Crow be cleaned in the holidays?

Yes, out-of-term visits are normal for schools. With about 2 schools and colleges on the FSA’s register within roughly a mile and a half of Crow, it pays to plan holiday dates ahead. Tell us your holiday dates and we’ll book the visit for when the site is empty.

Which fire service covers Crow?

Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service is the fire and rescue service for Crow. TR19® isn’t law, but it’s the benchmark many fire officers and insurers look to when they ask how often the extract is cleaned.

What do you need from me for a quote?

A short description and a few photos plus the address and your hours. If we need more, we will ask.

Is a quote from pictures possible?

Yes, for many jobs. Send a few wide photos plus close-ups of panels, filters or grilles, and a fixed quote normally follows within one working day. Some sites still need a visit, and we will say so.

How long does it take to clean a kitchen extract system?

Length of duct, grease levels and access all affect it. As a guide, it takes as long as the system needs, from a few hours to several planned visits.

Do you work with multi-site operators?

Yes. One number covers all your sites across London and the South East, with visits on a regular schedule.

How much does kitchen extract cleaning cost in Crow?

It depends on the site, so we quote each one individually. To get one, phone us on 0345 646 2711 or use the quote form with the site type, opening hours and a few photos.

What’s TR19?

TR19® is BESA’s specification for ventilation hygiene. Since 2019, TR19® Grease has been a standalone specification for grease in kitchen extract systems, and TR19® Air covers general supply and extract systems.

Between visits

No system stays clean for ever, but care slows the build-up. A few tips:

  • Wash or exchange the filters often
  • Run the extract fan throughout cooking
  • Clean grease off the canopy surfaces regularly
  • Refit filters properly after cleaning

A TR19 certificate notes the date, the location and the technician. File it with the fire risk assessment and the maintenance log, so it’s to hand when an insurer, fire officer or EHO asks.

Keep the outside of the canopy wiped and any grease cups emptied. It won’t replace a TR19 clean, but it slows what reaches the duct.

How the visit works

Every visit runs to the same pattern: protect the area, isolate whatever needs isolating, do the work, tidy up and leave you the report. The visit itself takes a single shift for most kitchens, with long duct runs and tall risers needing more time. Pictures of the system and its access let us plan the work in Crow before we set off.

  1. You send photos or we visit, and the system is surveyed from canopy to discharge.
  2. Grease thickness is measured and the price is fixed before work starts.
  3. The kitchen is closed, the equipment cooled and everything nearby protected.
  4. Filters, canopy and plenum are cleaned, then the ducts, risers, fan and discharge.
  5. We re-test, photograph and send your certificate and photo report.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Find the previous report, if there is one
  • Let us know about parking and loading
  • Allow time for equipment near the work to be turned off and cool down

Ask for a quote

Photos are enough for some jobs, while others need a look on site. Larger sites, and anything hidden behind walls, ceilings or floors, are normally surveyed first. Either way, the quote is fixed before any work is booked.

Staff cleaning versus specialist work

Staff cleaning doesn’t replace a specialist visit; it supports it. Regular in-house cleaning slows the build-up, but the parts you can’t see still need a specialist at the right interval.

Logging matters as much as cleaning. A dated log of in-house cleaning and checks shows an inspector that the system is looked after between visits, next to our reports.

Honest limits

To be straight with you, there are a few things this work will not fix:

  • A fan motor that has burnt out
  • Fire dampers that will not close (that needs damper testing and remedials)
  • Damaged duct sections that need replacing

Not sure which it is? You can give us a ring on 0345 646 2711 or drop us a line and we’ll tell you honestly.

Crow kitchens: local notes

The FSA’s food hygiene register includes about 5 pubs, bars and clubs across Crow and its immediate surroundings (about a mile and a half). A pub or hotel kitchen that cooks every day builds up grease in its extract like any other. Environmental health officers from New Forest council inspect food businesses in Crow. They look at how clean the premises and equipment are, and the kitchen extract is part of that. A dated certificate in the maintenance file answers the question before it’s asked. Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service covers Crow. The Fire Safety Order puts the duty on whoever runs a kitchen to control its fire risk, and a greasy duct is fuel.

Older buildings often hide long, awkward duct runs, and if you run a kitchen at a historic venue in the area (Avon Tyrrell House is about 2.4 miles south-east), access may need planning. Term dates shape school work: for a school like Ringwood Junior School, an extract clean fits neatly into a half-term or summer break. Kitchens that cook twelve hours or more a day, as some healthcare kitchens do, fall into BESA’s three-monthly minimum; St Leonard's Hospital is the nearest hospital to Crow, about 4.3 miles west.

Different parts, different methods

Canopy and plenum

The plenum is out of sight behind the filters, so it’s easy to forget. We take the filters out and clean the plenum and housing thoroughly.

Grease filters

Filters need cleaning far more often than the duct and we offer a filter exchange service for that. Clean filters slow the build-up further down the system.

Fixed quotes for kitchen extract cleaning in Crow

The survey tells us what the work involves. The main factors are:

  • Site rules, permits and inductions
  • How big the system is
  • Parking and loading at the site
  • Working hours and out-of-hours timing

Leaving it longer rarely makes the work cheaper. Build-up, wear and faults tend to get worse, not better, which can make the next visit longer. If you are unsure, phone us on 0345 646 2711 or drop us a line for straight advice and a fixed quote.

What to send for a quote

Before you ask for a quote, gather:

  • The postcode and the type of business
  • The paperwork from the last visit, if you have it
  • Problems your staff have spotted
  • Any access panels or hatches you can see

Quotes are quick. Call or email with a few details and you’ll typically have a fixed price within one working day. If we need to see the system first, we book a survey around your hours.

Landlords, agents and facilities managers

If you look after several sites, we can schedule visits across all of them on one quote. Every building has its own written report, so each one has its own record.

Records are where multi-site compliance often slips. Each visit produces a dated report with pictures, so you can show an insurer or inspector what was done at each site.
