Kitchen extract cleaning for sites in Buckland

When something else is needed

An honest diagnosis matters more to us than a booking, so here’s what kitchen extract cleaning won’t do:

  • A fan motor or bearings that have failed (that needs a fan repair or replacement)
  • A grease trap that needs emptying
  • A damper that sticks or has a damaged link

Not sure which it is? You can phone us on 0345 646 2711 or use the quote form and we’ll tell you honestly before booking.

What the work covers

  • Canopies and hoods
  • Plenums and filters
  • Extract fans
  • Discharge points
  • Horizontal duct runs
  • Vertical risers

Commercial kitchen extraction cleaning in Buckland

Not sure when the extract was last cleaned, or by whom? Just phone us on 0345 646 2711 or use the quote form with pictures of the canopy and filters, and we will come back with a fixed price for the work in Buckland, normally within one working day. If you are dealing with a system with no record of a TR19 clean and a kitchen taken over without any extract records, we can help. Some call it canopy cleaning, others extract cleaning or duct cleaning, but in Buckland, as everywhere, the insurer wants the full system cleaned, not just the hood.

Kitchens that fry and grill hardest need the most frequent cleans, so we look at the menu as well as the opening hours when we suggest the next date.

In a village or hamlet like Buckland, the kitchens that need extract cleaning are usually a pub, a school, a care home or a hall kitchen, wherever there is one. Every one of them still needs its extract kept clear of grease.

We have been trading since 2009, and we are a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease. CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001 are in place too, and we are fully insured.

Multi-site and managed buildings

Where a tenant occupies the premises but the landlord owns the building, it’s worth checking the lease for who maintains the systems. We are happy to deal with either side and send the paperwork to whoever needs it.

Under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, the responsible person must assess and reduce fire risk, which may be the employer, owner, landlord, FM or managing agent. Where responsibility is shared, records matter even more.

Part by part

Grease filters

Baffle filters are cleaned as part of every TR19 clean, and put back so they seat correctly. We will tell you if any need replacing.

Extract fan and discharge

Some systems have attenuators to cut noise, and they hold grease. Where they can be cleaned, they are, and the report notes anything that cannot.

Staff cleaning versus specialist work

Staff cleaning does not replace a specialist visit; it supports it. Regular in-house cleaning slows the build-up, but hidden parts of the system still need specialist attention.

For ventilation and air handling systems, in-house care is mostly about checks: keeping grilles clear, noting unusual noise or smells and logging filter changes. Cleaning inside ducts and units is specialist work.

The process

Protection comes first: sheeting goes over floors and surfaces close to the work. Then we make the system safe and start. The work on site takes a few hours for a small kitchen, longer for a large system, and the area is cleaned down before we leave. For a village or hamlet like Buckland, tell us about narrow lanes, gates and parking when you book.

  1. First comes a survey of the whole system, by pictures or a visit.
  2. Set points are tested for grease thickness and the quote is fixed before any work starts.
  3. With the kitchen closed and equipment off and cool, the area is sheeted.
  4. The whole route is cleaned, from the canopy through the ductwork to the fan and the discharge.
  5. Finally the system is re-tested and photographed, and the certificate and report follow.

Before we arrive

  • Let us know when the site is closed or quiet
  • Plan for cooking equipment or plant to be off before we arrive
  • Name a contact who can let us in at the agreed time

Advice

Leave it or put it right?

Grease that is left only gets thicker. BESA guidance says the mean should not go above 200 microns between cleans, and 500 microns or more at any point needs immediate spot cleaning. Heavy build-up takes longer to remove than regular cleans. Somewhere as small as Buckland, losing a kitchen or building to a fault is felt by everyone who uses it.

One small site or a whole estate, the quote is built the same way: the work involved, the access and the timing. You will have a fixed price before work begins.

Your questions about kitchen extract cleaning in Buckland

Can you work in Buckland outside opening hours?

Yes. We work evenings, overnight and at weekends. The site is handed back ready to open. Let us know the hours you’re closed and we’ll book within them.

Which fire and rescue service is responsible for Buckland?

It’s Surrey Fire and Rescue Service, which covers Buckland. It’s worth keeping your fire risk assessment, TR19® certificates and photo reports together, ready to show.

What if parts of the system can’t be reached?

We never leave them off the paperwork. The report says which parts couldn’t be reached and why, and we can quote to improve the access.

Will I get a certificate after the clean?

Yes, a TR19 certificate, along with a photo report. The report lists what was cleaned, anything we couldn’t reach and when the next clean is due.

How often does a kitchen extract system need cleaning?

BESA guidance sets minimums by daily cooking hours: every 3 months for 12 to 16 hours, 6 months for 6 to 12 hours and 12 months for 2 to 6 hours. Grease readings can show a shorter interval is needed.

What do you do to protect the area?

With sheeting and covers, before anything else happens. We keep the work contained and leave the area clean.

Can you set up regular visits?

Yes. Tell us what you have and how it’s used, and we will suggest a schedule and quote for it.

Do I have to clean my extract to TR19 by law?

No law names TR19 directly, but the responsible person still has a legal duty under the Fire Safety Order 2005. TR19 is the standard insurers and fire officers expect, and many policies require it.

Grease, kitchens and Buckland

The Food Standards Agency lists about 4 pubs and bars as registered food businesses in Buckland and the streets around it, up to about 1.5 miles out. Breakfasts, bar meals and functions all put grease into the extract wherever they’re cooked. Kitchens in Buckland get their food hygiene inspections from Mole Valley council. Extraction counts as kitchen equipment, so its condition can come up on the day. Keeping each certificate and photo report on file helps show the extract is looked after. Fire safety in Buckland falls to Surrey Fire and Rescue Service. Grease in a kitchen extract is a recognised fire risk, and the fire authority enforces the law on managing it in most commercial premises.

Volunteers running a hall kitchen near Church of St Mary the Virgin, or anywhere in Buckland, may not know when the extract was last cleaned, and a grease test settles it. A hospital like Headley Court, about 3.6 miles north, is the kind of site where a kitchen may cook for patients, staff and visitors all day. For kitchens close to Betchworth station, where the day often starts early and ends late, the extract can be cleaned overnight.

Buckland is about 2 miles west of Reigate, in Surrey. We carry out kitchen extract cleaning for commercial premises of every kind in Buckland and the rest of Surrey. We cover 395 places across Surrey, from busy centres to quieter spots. Guildford is in our area too, around 14 miles away.

Around Buckland

Locally, jobs take us to businesses close to Brockham Limeworks and The Red Lion pub, among other places. The nearest railway station is Betchworth station, about 0.6 miles north-west of the centre. Nearby you will also find Headley Court (3.6 miles north) and Reigate Priory Museum (2.2 miles east). Open spaces near Buckland include Colley Hill and Reigate Heath.

Keeping the system healthy

Looking after the system between visits is straightforward, and it makes the next visit easier:

  • Don’t let the canopy gutters overflow
  • Keep the cleaning records where you can find them
  • Make sure every filter is fitted before cooking
  • Wipe the canopy down at the end of each day

You get a photo report after every clean. Before and after photos show each part of the system, and lists what was cleaned, any areas we couldn’t reach and the date the next clean is due.

Run the extract whenever the kitchen is cooking. Switching it off early leaves vapour to settle on the canopy and plenum, and the next clean has more to do.
