How we handle grease trap cleaning in Wadhurst
Think of the grease trap as a filter for the kitchen’s drains. Kept clean, it does its job quietly but left too long, it causes trouble. A regular clean keeps it healthy. If you have foul odours from the grease trap and a grease trap that hasn’t been emptied in a long time, we can help, from under-sink grease traps, pot wash sinks and restaurants and takeaways onwards.
Work in a smaller place like Wadhurst is planned around your opening hours, and the journey is planned ahead.
Nothing is signed off by word of mouth: a written report, dated and illustrated with pictures, and for TR19® Grease cleans, a certificate issued through the BESCA VHE portal. It shows what was done and what, if anything, couldn’t be reached.

How the job changes from site to site
Under-sink grease traps
Under-sink traps are cleaned in a short visit and check the seal on the lid.
Grease interceptors
Bigger kitchens may have a larger grease interceptor. With more capacity, they fill more slowly but they still need cleaning.
Questions from Wadhurst
Who inspects food businesses in Wadhurst?
Food hygiene inspections in Wadhurst are carried out by Wealden council. An officer may look behind equipment and at drains, so it pays to have the deep clean booked before those areas build up.
Do you work in school kitchens around Wadhurst out of term?
Yes, and it’s the easiest time to do it. Around Wadhurst, the Food Standards Agency lists about 3 schools and colleges with registered kitchens within a mile and a half or so. Tell us your holiday dates and we will book the visit for when the site is empty.
Can you look after several sites?
Yes. Tell us the addresses and what each needs and you will get one fixed quote.
Can you give me a price for grease trap cleaning?
Every trap is different, so we quote once we know what you have. We give you a fixed price, normally within one working day.
Do you look at the system first?
Yes. Photos often do the job, while bigger or harder-to-see systems are surveyed on site.
Do you have insurance?
Yes, we’re fully insured. CHAS and SafeContractor accreditation sit alongside it, for sites that check contractor safety.
What do you do with the waste?
The fat, oil, grease and solids we remove go with us. None of it goes back into the drains, of course.
Which records should we keep?
Everything that shows the system is looked after: reports, certificates, photos and your own cleaning or check logs. One maintenance log per site keeps it simple.
Aftercare tips
So the system stays in good health:
- Keep waste oil out of the drains
- Tell us if your menu or hours change
- Do not store things on top of the trap
- Get food waste into the bin, not the sink
You will get our view on how often the trap needs cleaning. That depends on how quickly it filled and how busy the kitchen is.
Fat that escapes the trap hardens in the pipework. Once it’s there, it needs a drainage contractor to clear so prevention is the easier route.

Managing agents and facilities teams in Wadhurst
Keeping records across a portfolio is half the battle. Each visit produces a dated report with pictures, ready to show insurers, fire officers or EHOs.
We regularly work with managing agents. Send the address, what’s needed and how access works and we’ll come back with a fixed quote.
When something else is needed
We won’t sell you work that doesn’t address the problem, so these are the things it won’t cover:
- A grease trap that’s too small for the kitchen
- Collapsed or damaged drains, which need a drainage contractor
- Blockages in the public sewer beyond the property
If you’re not sure, just phone us on 0345 646 2711, or email photos and we will give you a straight answer before booking.

What we do, step by step
We’re used to working while the site is closed. Evenings, nights and weekends are when much of our work happens, so the site can open as normal afterwards. The visit itself takes an hour or two in most kitchens, depending on the size and condition of the trap. Visits to a place like Wadhurst are planned ahead, so we arrive with what the survey says the job needs.
- We start by finding the trap and checking its inlet and outlet.
- Nothing drains into the trap while it’s open.
- We take out the layer of fat, oil and grease and any solids.
- We clean the chambers, baffles and connections.
- Once it’s refitted, water is run through to check it drains, and we take the waste with us.
Before we arrive
- Let us know how we reach the system, including roofs, risers and plant rooms
- Find the previous report, if there is one
- Make sure someone can let us in and lock up afterwards

Do you need grease trap cleaning in Wadhurst?
Hot water and detergent carry grease further than you’d expect. Once it cools, it sets, often in the trap or the pipe beyond.
These are the problems we see most often:
- Sinks that drain slowly
- Foul odours from the grease trap
- An overdue grease trap
- A blocked kitchen drain caused by grease
If you run event catering at a historic house or estate in the area (Wadhurst Castle is about 0.1 miles south), a deep clean before or after the busy season is worth planning.

The FSA’s food hygiene register shows about 3 sandwich bars and takeaways across Wadhurst and its immediate surroundings (about a mile and a half). Why act early in Wadhurst
Pouring hot water or chemicals down a slow drain is a common quick fix. It just shifts the grease further along to set somewhere harder to reach. Emptying and cleaning the trap deals with the source. A visit arranged in advance is far less disruptive than a callout on a busy day.
Leaving it longer rarely makes the work cheaper. Build-up, wear and faults tend to get worse, not better, and a neglected system can mean more work. If you’re not sure what’s needed, ring 0345 646 2711 or email us for straight advice and a fixed quote.
