Grease trap cleaning in Hellingly

Grease trap cleaning for kitchens and businesses in Hellingly

A clean trap means flowing drains and no foul smells. We empty the built-up grease and food solids, clean the inside and the baffles, and check the trap is working properly. The work covers pot wash sinks, school and care home kitchens and kitchen waste pipes, and people most often call us about a small trap that fills too quickly and sinks that drain slowly.

Kitchens around a smaller place like Hellingly are often in older buildings, with drains and grease traps that have been there for years. Smells and slow drains are the usual warning signs.

We’re CHAS and SafeContractor accredited, we hold ISO 9001 and we’re fully insured. We’re also a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease, and we have been trading since 2009.

What happens if it’s left?

A dirty grease trap smells. Decomposing waste in the trap smells bad and the smell carries. Cleaning it removes the cause. Light use slows the build-up but does not stop it.

What you pay reflects the actual work. That is why every job is surveyed first, and the price is agreed before work begins.

Why us?

  • Fixed quotes, usually within one working day
  • Out-of-hours work and a 24/7 emergency line
  • Survey first, then a fixed quote
  • Full insurance on every job

Take a look at what affects the cost and how to check a contractor.

What a clean will not put right

In fairness, some problems need a different fix:

  • Grease deep in the drains, which needs jetting by a drainage contractor
  • Plumbing leaks around the sink
  • Collapsed or damaged drains, which need a drainage contractor

If you’re not sure, just give us a ring on 0345 646 2711 or use the quote form and we’ll give you a straight answer before you book.

Parts of the system we cover

  • Under-sink grease traps
  • Pot wash sinks
  • Inline grease traps
  • Restaurants and takeaways
  • School and care home kitchens
  • Kitchen waste pipes

How the visit works

Everything the job needs comes with us, from protective sheeting to tools and access equipment. All we need from you is clear access and the right equipment switched off. The visit takes a short visit for a small trap and longer for an inline unit or interceptor. Your opening hours decide when we come to Hellingly, not ours.

  1. We find the trap and check how it’s connected.
  2. We ask for the sinks that drain into the trap not to be used.
  3. Built-up fat, oil and grease is removed from the trap.
  4. The inside, baffles and pipe connections are cleaned.
  5. The trap is reassembled, checked for leaks and the waste taken away.

How to prepare

  • Let us know about permits to work or site inductions
  • Make sure someone can let us in and lock up afterwards
  • Make sure equipment near the work can be switched off and left to cool

FAQs for Hellingly

Which environmental health team covers Hellingly?

The local authority for Hellingly is Wealden council, and its environmental health team does the inspecting. How often a business is inspected depends on the council’s risk rating for it, so the kitchen needs to be ready at any time.

Do you work overnight in Hellingly?

Yes, out-of-hours work is a big part of what we do. That way a site in Hellingly doesn’t have to lose a day’s trading. When you call 0345 646 2711, or email photos, mention when the site is quiet.

Do you provide a certificate or report?

Yes. It’s the record insurers and inspectors ask to see: a dated report with pictures, listing the work and any areas we couldn’t reach.

Can you clear our blocked drains as well?

That depends on the cause. If the trap is full, cleaning it often helps, but blockages further along need a drainage contractor.

Will you tell us when the next visit is due?

Yes. The interval depends on how much the system is used and what we find and the report sets out why.

What does TR19 mean?

TR19® is the BESA specification for keeping ventilation systems clean. TR19® Grease, a standalone specification since 2019, covers grease in kitchen extract systems, and TR19® Air covers general supply and extract systems.

Can you come out in an emergency?

Yes, 24/7. Office hours are Monday to Friday, 8am to 6pm, with the emergency line covering every other hour.

Can you set up regular visits?

Yes. Regular plans can run on 3, 6 or 12-monthly cycles, to suit the system and how it’s used.

Multi-site and managed buildings

We work for landlords, managing agents and facilities managers as well as the people running the site. Shared systems, like a riser serving several units, need a clear agreement on who books the work, and we are happy to quote for all of it.

Where a tenant occupies the premises but the landlord owns the building, it’s worth checking the lease for who maintains the systems. We can quote either party and send the paperwork to whoever needs it.

Commercial kitchens in Hellingly

There are about 6 restaurants, cafés and works canteens within about 1.5 miles of central Hellingly, according to the Food Standards Agency’s register. Kitchens like these wash fat, oil and grease down the sink every day, and a grease trap is what stops it reaching the sewer. Hellingly, about 45 miles from central London, is within our usual area. We work evenings, overnight and at weekends, so the visit fits around the site. Food hygiene inspections in Hellingly are the job of Wealden council’s environmental health team. An inspection covers the structure of the kitchen as well as the food. Keeping a record of deep cleans and grease trap visits helps at inspection time.

If you run a care home or healthcare kitchen near Hellingly (the nearest hospital is Hellingly Hospital Railway, about within half a mile north), a grease trap on a set schedule avoids a blocked drain mid-service. School kitchens, at schools like Hawkes Farm Academy for example, typically have their deep cleans and grease trap work done while the canteen is closed.

Baffles and outlets

Every clean includes the baffles, inlet and outlet so the trap works as it should.

School, care home and staff kitchens

Kitchens that serve set mealtimes fill their traps more steadily. A regular interval suits them well.

Common problems we fix in Hellingly

For a kitchen in Hellingly or anywhere else, the trap is out of sight and out of mind. Tucked away under the sink or below the floor, it’s often ignored until something goes wrong.

Look out for any of the following:

  • A regular cleaning plan for the grease trap
  • Drains clogged with fat
  • Gurgling drains in the kitchen
  • A grease trap that hasn’t been emptied in a long time

If you run a kitchen in an older building near Hellingly, such as a historic house like Horselunges Manor (about 0.6 miles west), older drains make a working grease trap all the more important.

Our hiring checklist

Staff cleaning versus specialist work

Staff cleaning doesn’t replace a specialist visit; it supports it. Regular in-house cleaning slows the build-up, but the parts you cannot see still need a specialist at the right interval.

If your staff spot something between visits, such as dripping grease, a noisy fan, a smell or a filter that will not come clean, they should report it rather than try to fix it. We’ll take a look and give you a fixed quote.
