About our grease trap cleaning in The Holt

No two traps are quite the same. Under-sink units are small and fill quickly, while inline traps and interceptors hold more. We assess the trap and how fast it fills and suggest an interval that suits. Typical jobs include grease setting in the kitchen pipework and a slow-draining kitchen sink, across under-sink grease traps, kitchen waste pipes and pot wash sinks.

In rural areas, a kitchen may drain to a private system rather than a public sewer, and fat getting past a grease trap can cause real trouble there.

Insurers, fire officers and environmental health officers all look at records. So every job comes with a written report and photos, and grease extract cleans come with a TR19® certificate issued through the BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite portal.

The process

On the day, we arrive at the time agreed with you, often in the evening, overnight or at the weekend so the site keeps working. Equipment that has to be off is switched off and allowed to cool before any work starts, and floors and nearby surfaces are sheeted. On site, it takes an hour or so for an under-sink trap, longer for a larger unit. In a small place like The Holt, the journey is planned ahead and the visit arranged around the site’s hours.

  1. We locate the trap and check how it’s fitted.
  2. Sinks feeding the trap are taken out of use.
  3. Grease and solids are removed from the trap.
  4. The chambers and baffles are cleaned.
  5. The trap is refitted, tested with water and the waste taken away.

Before we arrive

  • Mention any parking or loading restrictions
  • Clear loose items from the work area
  • Agree a time when the area can be out of use

Grease interceptors

Interceptors take longer to clean and we allow for that.

Inline grease traps

An inline trap sits in the pipework between the kitchen and the drain. They hold more than under-sink units but still need regular emptying.

When something else is needed

We’ll always give you a straight diagnosis, so here’s what this work cannot put right:

  • Plumbing leaks around the sink
  • Collapsed or damaged drains, which need a drainage contractor
  • Blockages further down the drainage network

If you are not sure, just phone us on 0345 646 2711 or use the quote form and we will give you a straight answer before booking.

What the work covers

  • Under-sink grease traps
  • Restaurants and takeaways
  • School and care home kitchens
  • Inline grease traps
  • Pot wash sinks
  • Kitchen waste pipes

Grease trap cleaning around The Holt

The Food Standards Agency lists about 6 bars, pubs and nightclubs as registered food businesses within 1.5 miles or so of the middle of The Holt. Wherever food is prepared there, a periodic deep clean and a clear grease trap keep things in order. Food hygiene inspections in The Holt are the job of Wokingham council’s environmental health team. Walls, floors, ceilings and equipment are all part of what they look at. Keeping a record of deep cleans and grease trap visits helps at inspection time.

A summer deep clean suits schools such as Robert Piggott CofE Infant School, as the kitchen can be stripped back with no lunches to serve. Healthcare kitchens cook through the year, so a deep clean has to be fitted around meals; St Mark's Hospital, about 4.4 miles north-east, is the nearest hospital to The Holt. If you run a kitchen in an older building near The Holt, such as a historic house like Harleyford Manor (about 3.9 miles north), older drains make a working grease trap all the more important.

How we price grease trap cleaning

The quote reflects the site in front of us. We take into account:

  • The times the site is available
  • The size of the system
  • Access, including roofs, risers and ceiling voids
  • The condition we find in the survey

You won’t find a price list here, because each job is priced on what it involves. Call for a fixed quote, and we’ll talk you through it.

What to send for a quote

The more you tell us, the more accurate the quote. With your enquiry, please include:

  • Any previous report or certificate
  • Any access panels or hatches you can see
  • When the site is open and when it’s quiet
  • Any symptoms, from odd noises to smells or leaks

Quoting starts with a diagnosis, either from photos and details you send or from a site visit. After that, you get a fixed price for the work so you know the cost before work begins.

Looking after it afterwards

Here’s the after-treatment advice, short and simple:

  • Wipe grease off pans before washing them
  • Don’t store things on top of the trap
  • Use strainers in the sink plugholes
  • Don’t wait for a blockage to book a clean

If we spot problems beyond the trap, such as a drain that still runs slowly, we’ll tell you. That may need a drainage contractor to look further.

A fixed cleaning interval means the trap never gets overfull. The interval is set to suit the trap and the kitchen.

In-house cleaning or a specialist?

Staff cleaning and specialist work aren’t the same thing. A daily filter wipe and a weekly filter wash keep grease down at the front of the system, but they don’t reach the grease that builds up further in. Reaching it takes a specialist with the right equipment.

If your staff spot something between visits, like drips, unusual noise, smells or damaged filters, it’s best reported rather than tackled in-house. We can diagnose it and quote.

Your questions about grease trap cleaning in The Holt

Can school kitchens in The Holt be cleaned in the holidays?

Yes, holiday work suits schools best. Food Standards Agency records list about 2 schools, colleges and universities with registered kitchens within about a mile and a half of The Holt. You can phone us on 0345 646 2711, or send details by email with the dates the site is empty.

Which council inspects kitchens in The Holt?

In The Holt, it’s Wokingham council that carries out food hygiene inspections. Keep the dates of your last deep clean and grease trap visit with your food safety records, ready if an officer asks.

What happens if you can’t reach some of it?

We record them on the report, with photos where possible, and we explain what access is needed, for example new access panels.

How far ahead should we book?

The more notice, the better, especially for out-of-hours work. We normally quote within one working day, and emergencies are covered by our 24/7 line.

What does a grease trap clean cost?

It depends on the type and size of the trap, its condition and access. Send us details or a photo and we’ll come back with a fixed price.

Can you set up regular visits?

Yes. Tell us what you have and how it’s used and we will propose a schedule with a fixed quote.

Do you take the waste away?

We remove all the waste we take out. None of it goes back into the drains at any point.

Do you provide a certificate or report?

Yes, always. It’s a dated, written report with pictures, plus a certificate via the BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite portal for TR19® Grease cleans. Keep it in your maintenance log.

What happens if it’s left?

Smells from a neglected trap are hard to ignore. Decomposing waste in the trap smells bad that can reach the kitchen and beyond. Cleaning it removes the cause. In a place like The Holt, ductwork and fans are easy to forget until something goes wrong.

No two sites are the same, so each one gets its own fixed quote. The size of the job, how we reach it, its condition and the working hours all make a difference.
