How the job changes from site to site

Restaurant and takeaway kitchens

Kitchens that fry and wash up all day fill their traps quickly. They often need the most frequent cleaning.

Inline grease traps

An inline trap sits in the pipework between the kitchen and the drain. They hold more than under-sink units but still fill up.

Grease trap cleaning in Standon

Fats, oils and grease are the main cause of blocked kitchen drains. Further on, grease can build into fatbergs in the sewer. A grease trap that’s emptied and cleaned regularly keeps them out of the drains. We are often asked to deal with gurgling drains in the kitchen and an under-sink trap that keeps filling up, across pot wash sinks, restaurants and takeaways and kitchen waste pipes.

In rural areas, a kitchen may drain to a private system rather than a public sewer, and fat getting past a grease trap can cause real trouble there.

The paperwork matters as much as the work. You get a written report with photos after every visit, covering the work done, any areas we couldn’t access and a recommended next date. File it in your maintenance log so it’s to hand when an insurer or inspector asks.

Common problems we fix in Standon

Food waste slips past sink strainers or gets rinsed down. Solids settle at the bottom of the trap and fill it from below.

Signs it’s time to call us include:

  • An interceptor full of grease and solids
  • Scheduled grease trap emptying
  • An under-sink trap that keeps filling up
  • A bad smell from the sinks or drains

Where a church or community hall near Church of St Mary, or anywhere in Standon, has a kitchen used by volunteers, a periodic deep clean keeps it ready for the next event.

What your quote should include

  • If the quote is a fixed price or an estimate
  • Whether the quote is based on a survey or photos
  • Whether inaccessible sections are listed on the report
  • Which accreditations they hold, and whether you can check them

Fixed quotes for grease trap cleaning in Standon

There’s no set price list, because sites vary so much. The quote depends on:

  • The number of sites or systems
  • Parking and loading at the site
  • Site requirements such as sign-in and permits
  • When the work can happen, such as evenings, overnight or weekends

Leaving it longer rarely makes the work cheaper. Build-up, wear and faults tend to get worse, not better, which can make the next visit longer. If you’re not sure what’s needed, phone us on 0345 646 2711 or email us for straight advice and a fixed quote.

What to send for a quote

The more you tell us, the more accurate the quote. With your enquiry, please include:

  • Your opening hours and when the area is out of use
  • Anything you’ve noticed, such as smells, noise, drips or poor airflow
  • Any access panels or hatches you can see
  • The postcode and the type of business

Here’s what helps us quote: where the site is, what it is and its opening hours, a few pictures and the last certificate or report, if there is one. Then call us on 0345 646 2711 or send us an email.

Questions from Standon

Do you work in villages like Standon?

Yes, Standon is part of our area, however small the site. Photos of the system and directions to the site help us plan the visit.

Which council inspects kitchens in Standon?

That is East Hertfordshire council, whose environmental health officers carry out food hygiene inspections in Standon. How often a business is inspected depends on the council’s risk rating for it, so the kitchen needs to be ready at any time.

Do you clean under-sink and inline grease traps?

Under-sink units, inline traps and interceptors are all covered. Tell us what you have and we’ll plan around it.

Where does the waste go?

It’s contained and taken away. Grease, debris and waste water are collected as the work goes on, so it does not spread.

Do we need to stop using the sinks while you work?

The sinks that drain into the trap can’t be used while it’s open. That’s why we time visits around service so the kitchen isn’t held up.

How much notice do you need?

The more notice, the better, particularly for night and weekend visits. We typically quote within one working day, and emergencies are covered by our 24/7 line.

Do you look at the system first?

Yes, every time. We diagnose before we treat: the survey shows what needs doing and what access we need, and the quote is based on that.

Do you have insurance?

Yes. Duct Doctor is fully insured, and we can share the details when you need them.

Managing agents and facilities teams in Standon

When the building owner and the occupier are different, it’s worth checking the lease for who maintains the systems. We can quote either party and send the paperwork to whoever needs it.

Records are where multi-site compliance often slips. Each visit ends with a dated report and photos, so you can show an insurer or inspector what was done at each site.

How the visit works

Our technicians bring everything the work needs, from protective sheeting to tools and access equipment. All we need from you is clear access and the right equipment switched off. The visit takes an hour or two in most kitchens, depending on the size and condition of the trap. Somewhere as small as Standon, the date and timings are agreed with you well before the day.

  1. We find the trap and check how it’s connected.
  2. Nothing drains into the trap while it’s open.
  3. We take out the layer of fat, oil and grease and any solids.
  4. The inside, baffles and pipe connections are cleaned.
  5. We put it back together, run water through and remove the waste.

Before we arrive

  • Agree a time when the area can be out of use
  • Dig out any earlier paperwork for the system
  • Tell us about site rules, permits or sign-in

Honest limits

We will always give you a straight diagnosis, so here’s what this work can’t put right:

  • Sewer problems outside the premises
  • A leaking sink waste or trap connection
  • Drains that need jetting rather than trap cleaning

Not sure which it is? You can phone us on 0345 646 2711 or use the quote form and we will tell you honestly before booking.

Parts of the system we cover

In-house cleaning or a specialist?

Staff cleaning and specialist work are not the same thing. Wiping filters daily and washing them weekly keeps the visible parts in order, but they do not reach the grease that builds up further in. That part needs specialist access and equipment.

Your own staff can handle the daily basics: wiping canopies, washing grease filters and recording it in a log. What they can’t safely do is clean inside the ductwork, the fan or the risers, which is where we come in.
