How we handle grease trap cleaning in Cheshunt
A clean trap means flowing drains and no foul smells. The fat, oil, grease and solids are taken out, clean the inside and the baffles and the trap checked before we leave. The work covers restaurants and takeaways, under-sink grease traps and inline grease traps, and the jobs we see most are an under-sink trap that keeps filling up and a larger grease trap that needs emptying.
Around a town like Cheshunt, the kitchens we deep clean tend to be pubs, restaurants, takeaways and school or care home kitchens. All of them collect grease behind and under equipment.
Duct Doctor has been trading since 2009, as a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease. CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001 are in place too, and we are fully insured.

What grease trap cleaning looks like in Cheshunt
There are about 40 cafés, restaurants and staff canteens and about 29 sandwich bars and takeaways within about 1.5 miles of central Cheshunt, according to the Food Standards Agency’s register. Kitchens like these wash fat, oil and grease down the sink every day, and a grease trap is what stops it reaching the sewer. Environmental health officers from Broxbourne council inspect food businesses in Cheshunt. Grease behind equipment or on a ceiling is the kind of thing an inspection can note. A cleaning log that includes deep cleans and grease trap visits shows the work is planned.
For schools such as Andrews Lane Primary School, deep cleans and grease trap work are normally booked for the holidays. St Michaels Hospital, about 3.7 miles south-west, is the nearest hospital to Cheshunt; healthcare kitchens can’t stop cooking, so deep cleans are worked around meal times.

Why deal with it now?
A blocked drain can stop a kitchen in its tracks. Water will not drain away, and dirty water can back up. Keeping the trap clean reduces the risk. Dealt with now, it’s a planned visit around your hours rather than a callout when the site needs to be open.
What you pay reflects the actual work. That is why every job is surveyed first, and why the quote is fixed before any work starts.

Part by part
School, care home and staff kitchens
Drains in care settings need to keep flowing. We fit visits around mealtimes.
Under-sink grease traps
An under-sink trap is out of sight. When they fill, the sink slows and starts to smell.
Keeping the system healthy
No system stays clean for ever, but care slows the build-up. Our tips:
- Keep strainers in every sink
- Keep the grease trap on a regular cleaning schedule
- Do not rely on hot water to clear grease
- Act on gurgling or smelly drains
We take the grease and solids away. Nothing is left for you to dispose of when we’re done.
Grease that gets past the trap sets in the drains. Once it’s there, it needs a drainage contractor to clear, so it’s far better to keep the trap clean.

Landlords, agents and facilities managers
We work for landlords, managing agents and facilities managers as well as the people running the site. Shared systems, like a riser serving several units, need a clear agreement on who books the work, and we are happy to quote for all of it.
The Fire Safety Order 2005 puts the duty to manage fire risk on the responsible person, and that can be the employer, the owner, a landlord, a facilities manager or a managing agent. With shared responsibility, good records help everyone.
Cheshunt questions
Can you come to Cheshunt after we close?
Yes, we can come after you close and finish before you open. That way a site in Cheshunt doesn’t have to lose a day’s trading. Your opening times are the first thing we ask for.
Which council inspects kitchens in Cheshunt?
Kitchens in Cheshunt are inspected by Broxbourne council’s environmental health officers. Keep the dates of your last deep clean and grease trap visit with your food safety records, ready if an officer asks.
Is Cheshunt in your area?
Yes. Our technicians work in Cheshunt, as part of our area across London and the South East.
Which records should we keep?
Anything that proves the system is maintained: our reports and photos, any certificates and your in-house logs. One maintenance log per site keeps it simple.
Do you offer emergency callouts?
Yes. There’s a 24/7 emergency line, for problems that can’t wait. Call us any time and explain what’s happened.
Will we have to shut during the visit?
Not usually. We need the work area to ourselves while we are on site, so we book a time when it would be closed anyway.
Do you provide a certificate or report?
Yes, on every job. It’s a dated, written report with photos, plus a certificate via the BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite portal for TR19® Grease cleans. Keep it in your maintenance log.
What accreditations do you have?
We hold CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001, alongside BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite membership, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease. The Vent Hygiene Elite scheme is run by BESCA and audited independently.
What we do, step by step
Your trading hours come first. We book the visit for a time the area is closed, whether that’s an evening, overnight or a weekend. Once we are in, the area is sheeted and anything that has to be off is turned off and cooled, and the job takes an hour or two in most kitchens, depending on the size and condition of the trap. In Cheshunt, the visit is planned around your opening hours, parking and access to the system.
- We locate the trap and check how it’s fitted.
- Sinks feeding the trap are taken out of use.
- Grease and solids are removed from the trap.
- The chambers and baffles are cleaned.
- The trap is refitted, tested with water and the waste taken away.
Getting ready for the visit
- Have your last certificate or report to hand
- Name a contact who can let us in at the agreed time
- Plan for cooking equipment or plant to be off before we arrive
Getting a quote
The quickest way to a quote is to send pictures: wide shots of the system, close-ups of anything that worries you and how we’d get to it. Add the site type and your opening hours, and many jobs can be priced from that alone.
Advice
When to call us in Cheshunt
The more a kitchen cooks and washes up, the quicker the trap fills. A trap that suited a quieter kitchen can fill very quickly when trade picks up.
Signs it’s time to call us include:
- A small trap that fills too quickly
- A slow-draining kitchen sink
- An interceptor full of grease and solids
- Drains that gurgle and bubble
Forty Hall, about 3 miles south, is one of the historic houses around Cheshunt; event kitchens at places like that work in bursts, so a deep clean after a busy season helps.
