Grease trap cleaning for sites in Collier Row

Grease trap cleaning in Collier Row

A grease trap catches fats, oils and grease from the kitchen sinks before they reach the drain. As the waste water cools, the grease floats and stays in the trap while the water carries on to the drain. Eventually it fills and needs emptying and cleaning. Common call-outs are for an under-sink unit that needs regular emptying and an interceptor full of grease and solids, across pot wash sinks, inline grease traps and restaurants and takeaways.

Every food business in London is inspected by its local council’s environmental health officers, and walls, floors, ceilings and equipment are all part of the picture. Kitchens in Collier Row often book a deep clean before or after an inspection.

Accreditations are easy to claim and worth checking. Ours are BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite membership, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease, plus CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001, with full insurance on top.

What happens on the day

Our technicians bring everything the work needs, including protection sheets, the right tools and access kit. All we need from you is clear access and the right equipment switched off. On site, the work takes an hour or two in most kitchens, depending on the size and condition of the trap. Getting kit into a London building takes planning, so let us know where we can load and park in Collier Row.

  1. We find the trap and check how it’s connected.
  2. We ask for the sinks that drain into the trap not to be used.
  3. We take out the layer of fat, oil and grease and any solids.
  4. We clean the chambers, baffles and connections.
  5. The trap is reassembled, checked for leaks and the waste taken away.

A summer deep clean suits schools such as Rise Park Infant School, as the kitchen can be stripped back with no lunches to serve. If you run a kitchen in an older building near Collier Row, such as a historic house like Hare Hall (about 1.7 miles east), older drains make a working grease trap all the more important.

Looking after it afterwards

Results last longer with the right care. Here’s what we suggest:

  • Do not wait for a blockage to book a clean
  • Report slow or smelly sinks early
  • Mention any increase in cooking
  • Never pour used oil down the sink

Anything we notice beyond the trap, like a slow drain downstream, is pointed out. That may need a drainage contractor to look further.

An overfull trap lets grease pass. Cleaning it before it’s full keeps grease out of the drains and saves a call-out for a blocked drain.

When to call us in Collier Row

The more a kitchen cooks and washes up, the quicker the trap fills. A trap that suited a quieter kitchen can struggle when cooking increases.

Most sites get in touch when they notice one of these:

  • A blocked kitchen drain caused by grease
  • An overdue grease trap
  • A bad smell from the sinks or drains
  • An inline trap or interceptor due for cleaning

Healthcare kitchens, like those at hospitals such as Oldchurch Hospital (about 1.5 miles south), cook for long hours, so deep cleans and grease trap work are planned around patients’ meals.

What a clean won’t put right

In fairness, some problems need a different fix:

  • Leaking pipework or sink wastes, which need a plumber
  • Blockages in the public sewer beyond the property
  • Grease deep in the drains, which needs jetting by a drainage contractor

If you’re not sure, just call 0345 646 2711 or email us and we will give you a straight answer.

How we price grease trap cleaning

Some jobs are bigger than they look, and some smaller. What affects the quote:

  • One-off work versus a regular cycle
  • The size of the system
  • The number of sites or systems
  • Working hours and out-of-hours timing

Working hours, access and the scale of the site can all change the price. Each of those is built into the quote and give you a fixed price before we start.

Helping us quote

When you contact us, it’s useful to have:

  • The site address and the type of premises
  • Any symptoms, from odd noises to smells or leaks
  • A few general shots of the system
  • The roof, plant room or outside wall the system runs to

Here’s what helps us quote: where the site is, what it is and its opening hours, photos of the system and the last certificate or report, if there is one. Once you have those, call us on 0345 646 2711, or send details by email.

What happens if it’s left?

A full grease trap lets grease through to the drains. It hardens on the pipe walls, until the drain blocks. Regular trap cleaning beats dealing with a blockage. London buildings are shared, so a fire or failure in one system can reach the neighbours above and beside you.

Whatever the type of site, the quote works the same way: how much there is, how we reach it, what state it’s in and when we can work. Ask for a fixed quote and we’ll explain each part.
