Grease filter exchange across Whyteleafe

Grease filter exchange for kitchens and businesses in Whyteleafe

A filter service works alongside TR19® cleaning, not instead of it. Fresh filters help limit what gets into the ductwork though vapour still carries some grease past them. So the canopy, plenum and ducts still need their full TR19 clean. If you have grease filters clogged with grease and missing filters in the filter bank, we can help, from island canopies, baffle filters and school and hospital kitchens onwards.

Work in a small place like Whyteleafe starts with a call to agree access and timings, and the clean itself is the same full TR19® job as in any town: canopy to discharge, then a TR19® certificate and a photo report.

It’s worth checking any contractor’s accreditations. Ours are BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite membership, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease, plus CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001, with full insurance on top.

Common problems we fix in Whyteleafe

Washing filters by hand does not always get them clean. Grease lodges deep in baffles and mesh, and a quick rinse leaves it there.

If you notice any of these, it’s worth a diagnosis:

  • Filters left unwashed on busy weeks
  • Grease left in baffles after washing
  • Missing filters in the filter bank
  • Grease collecting in the filter channels

A kitchen near Upper Warlingham station that serves breakfast and dinner can run its extract twelve hours or more, which shortens the cleaning interval.

What to look for in a quote

  • Whether they’re fully insured
  • Which accreditations they hold, and whether you can check them
  • Whether the work can be done while the site is closed
  • Whether the whole system is included, or only the parts that are easy to reach

Our hiring checklist

In-house cleaning or a specialist?

Day-to-day cleaning is something your team can do: wiping down canopy surfaces, cleaning filters and keeping a simple log. What they cannot safely do is clean inside the ductwork, the fan or the risers, and that’s where we come in.

Good housekeeping makes our visits easier, not unnecessary. Clean filters and tidy surfaces slow the build-up, but hidden parts of the system still need specialist attention.

Between visits

To keep the system working properly between visits:

  • Tell us if a filter is bent or damaged
  • Mention it if the kitchen gets busier
  • Keep the canopy clear for exchange visits
  • Never cook with the extract switched off

We tell you if we spot anything in the canopy that needs attention. It can be a sign that a full TR19® clean is due, and we can arrange it.

A kitchen that’s getting busier needs its filters changed more often. Changing the interval early stops grease building up unseen in the ducts.

What we do, step by step

We’re used to working while the site is closed. Evenings, nights and weekends are when much of our work happens, so a kitchen or building can carry on as usual the next day. On site, the work takes a few minutes per canopy, longer for a large kitchen with several canopies. We agree a date with you, plan the drive to Whyteleafe and turn up when the site is quiet.

  1. We look at the canopies and the condition of the filters.
  2. We note any filters that are bent, damaged or missing.
  3. Greasy filters are swapped for clean ones.
  4. The filters are checked for fit before we go.
  5. Anything that needs attention, such as a greasy plenum, is pointed out.

Before we arrive

  • Move anything stored near the system
  • Mention any parking or loading restrictions
  • Mention any sign-in, permit or induction we need

Advice

Whyteleafe: your questions answered

Can school kitchens in Whyteleafe be cleaned in the holidays?

Yes, and it’s the easiest time to do it. There are about 14 schools, colleges and universities on the FSA’s food hygiene register within about 1.5 miles of Whyteleafe. Tell us your holiday dates and we’ll book the visit for when the site is empty.

Who would carry out a food hygiene inspection at a kitchen in Whyteleafe?

In Whyteleafe, it’s Tandridge council that carries out food hygiene inspections. It helps to keep the extract cleaning records with your food safety paperwork, so they’re ready if asked for.

Which accreditations do you hold?

We are a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease. CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001 are in place too, and we carry full insurance.

What happens if you can’t reach some of it?

They’re listed in the report, never skipped quietly. The report says which parts couldn’t be reached and why, and we can quote to improve the access.

Do you clean filters as well as exchanging them?

We can. Some kitchens prefer their own filters cleaned on a schedule while others want an exchange. Either way, the canopy is not left without filters during service.

How far ahead should we book?

The more notice, the better, particularly for night and weekend visits. We usually quote within one working day, and emergencies are covered by our 24/7 line.

Do you take the used filters away?

We take them away to be cleaned and your staff do not have to deal with them. A clean set is fitted in their place.

Which sectors do you work in?

Any commercial site with kitchens or ventilation, from a small pub to a hospital. We work with hotels, schools, care homes, offices, retail and leisure sites.

Multi-site and managed buildings

Whether it’s one building or many, the standard is the same: the system surveyed, the price fixed, the visit fitted around trading and everything written up afterwards.

We also work for facilities teams across offices, schools and healthcare across Surrey. Work can be phased by floor, building or site to keep disruption down.

How we price grease filter exchange

Every site gets its own quote. These are the things that affect it:

  • Whether we need access equipment or extra panels
  • Any permits to work or inductions
  • What state the system is in
  • The number of sites or systems

Leaving it longer rarely makes the work cheaper. Build-up, wear and faults tend to get worse, not better, which can make the next visit longer. If you’re not sure what’s needed, ring 0345 646 2711 or use the quote form and we will give you an honest view and a fixed quote.

What we need to know

Photos and a few facts are often enough to price the work. Useful things to send:

  • The roof, plant room or outside wall the system runs to
  • The paperwork from the last visit, if you have it
  • Where the site is and what kind of site it is
  • Wide pictures of the system and the area around it

Photos are enough for some jobs, while others need a look on site. Larger sites, and anything hidden behind walls, ceilings or floors, are normally surveyed first. Either way, the quote is fixed before any work is booked.

How the job changes from site to site

Baffle filters

Baffle filters are a common choice for commercial canopies. They still need regular cleaning as the collected grease builds up between the blades.

The plenum

The plenum is the space behind the filters. Grease that gets past the filters settles there.

Grease, kitchens and Whyteleafe

Food Standards Agency records list about 32 restaurants, cafés and canteens and about 14 sandwich bars and takeaways across Whyteleafe and its immediate surroundings (about a mile and a half). Each canopy among them has filters that load with grease and need swapping or cleaning. Food hygiene inspections in Whyteleafe are the job of Tandridge council’s environmental health team. A greasy canopy or dripping filters are the sort of thing an inspection can pick up. Keeping each certificate and photo report on file helps show the extract is looked after. Fire safety in Whyteleafe falls to Surrey Fire and Rescue Service. The Fire Safety Order puts the duty on whoever runs a kitchen to control its fire risk, and a greasy duct is fuel.

A hospital like Caterham Dene Hospital, about 1.6 miles south, is the kind of site where a kitchen may cook for patients, staff and visitors all day. Church and community hall kitchens, near St Luke or anywhere around Whyteleafe, are easy to forget, but their extracts collect grease like any other.

Whyteleafe is about 1 mile north of Caterham, in Surrey. Sites in Whyteleafe get the same service as everywhere we cover: a survey first, a fixed quote, work timed around your hours and a report with photos. Our Surrey coverage runs to 395 places, and Whyteleafe is one of them. There’s also a page for London, about 13 miles away.
