What your team can do, and what needs us
Good housekeeping makes our visits easier, not unnecessary. Regular in-house cleaning slows the build-up, but the parts you cannot see still need a specialist at the right interval.
Day-to-day cleaning is something your team can do: wiping down canopy surfaces, cleaning filters and keeping a simple log. Inside the ducts, risers and fan is specialist work, and that is where we come in.
Grease filter exchange in Town Row
Baffle filters and mesh filters both fill with grease. Once they’re clogged, airflow drops and the fan has to work harder. A steady cycle of clean filters keeps extraction strong. If you have bent or damaged filters that don’t sit properly and hand-washed filters that still look greasy, we can put it right.
Rural kitchens often have long, low duct runs through a roof space or along an outside wall, where grease settles in the flat sections. We agree access and timings in advance.
Accreditations are easy to claim and worth checking. We’re a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease, and we hold CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001, with full insurance on top.

Why deal with it now?
Changing filters on schedule costs far less disruption than a blocked extract. Few maintenance jobs are as easy, and one of the easiest to let slip. Somewhere as small as Town Row, losing a kitchen or building to a fault is felt by everyone who uses it.
Combining work into one visit or one programme can make for a more efficient booking. Tell us about everything you’d like looked at and we’ll price it together.

Looking after it afterwards
After the visit, a few habits help the work last:
- Keep filter exchange and TR19 cleaning on the same plan
- Report damaged filters so they can be replaced
- Make sure no filter is left out
- Clear anything stored on or near the canopy
Once the clean filters are in, the kitchen can cook straight away. We take the greasy filters with us for cleaning.
Bent or missing filters let grease straight past. Sorting them now keeps grease where it can be caught.
Part by part
Busy restaurant and pub kitchens
The more a kitchen cooks, the more grease the filters see. Changing them on time protects the ducts behind.
The plenum
Clean filters reduce the grease reaching the plenum, but it still needs cleaning as part of TR19.

The visit is fixed around your opening hours, not ours.
If you run a church or community hall kitchen, near The Parish Church of St Denys or elsewhere in Town Row, its extract still collects grease from every lunch and event. What we’re called out for in Town Row
Every fry, grill and sauté sends grease-laden vapour upwards. The filters catch much of it, and day by day they load up until the air can barely get through.
Signs it’s time to call us include:
- Bent or damaged filters that do not sit properly
- Staff short of time to wash filters
- A canopy that drips grease
- Missing filters in the filter bank
School kitchens, at schools like Rotherfield Primary School for example, are usually cleaned in the holidays so no lunches are lost.

When it’s something else
Grease filter exchange cannot fix everything, and we’d rather say so up front. It doesn’t solve:
- Greasy ducts and risers that a filter change won’t reach
- A fan that’s failing or too weak for the system
- A heavily greased plenum or canopy, which needs cleaning to TR19
If you’re not sure, just call 0345 646 2711 or use the quote form and we’ll give you a straight answer.

Your questions about grease filter exchange in Town Row
Do you work overnight in Town Row?
Yes. We work evenings, overnight and at weekends. Your customers, staff or residents in Town Row needn’t be disturbed. When you call 0345 646 2711 or drop us a line, mention when the site is quiet.
Which fire and rescue service is responsible for Town Row?
It’s East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service, which covers Town Row. If a fire safety officer visits a commercial kitchen, they may ask about the fire risk assessment and how the extract is kept clean.
Where do the greasy filters go?
They leave with us. That is how an exchange works: clean filters in, dirty ones out, with no washing for your team.
What if parts of the system cannot be reached?
The report shows them clearly. Often the fix is extra access, such as new panels in ductwork, and we can fit those.
Which records should we keep?
Every certificate and report from each visit, filed in the maintenance log with your in-house cleaning records. BESA says certificates should show the date, location and technician.
How long will you be on site?
It depends on the size of the system, but for many sites it takes well under an hour for most canopies. We’ll give you a better idea when we quote.
What types of filter do you exchange?
Baffle filters and mesh filters. Tell us what you have when you phone us on 0345 646 2711 or use the quote form and we’ll confirm it on site.
Can you give a price for filter changes?
It depends on the number and type of filters and how often they’re changed. Just call us on 0345 646 2711, or send details by email for a fixed quote once we know your canopies.
What happens on the day
Night work is normal for us. A lot of visits happen overnight or at weekends, so a kitchen or building can carry on as usual the next day. The visit itself takes a few minutes per canopy, longer for a large kitchen with several canopies. Rural roads and tight entrances are worth telling us about before a visit to Town Row.
- First, we check the canopies and the filters in them.
- Any damaged or missing filters are noted.
- Greasy filters are swapped for clean ones.
- The filters are checked for fit before we go.
- We tell you if the plenum or canopy needs a clean.
Preparing for the visit
- Find the previous report, if there is one
- Let us know how we reach the system, including roofs, risers and plant rooms
- Mention any parking or loading restrictions
