Grease filter exchange near The City

About our grease filter exchange in The City

The filters in the canopy are the first thing cooking vapour meets. They catch grease before it reaches the plenum and ductwork, but only while they’re reasonably clean. With grease filter exchange, clean filters replace greasy ones at regular intervals. The work covers island canopies, school and hospital kitchens and wall canopies, and the jobs we see most are blocked baffle filters and smoke and heat lingering under the hood.

Somewhere as small as The City, commercial kitchens are few: perhaps a pub, a school or care home kitchen, or a hall used for events. Every one of them still needs its extract kept clear of grease.

For insurers and inspectors, the record counts. So every job comes with a written report and pictures, and grease extract cleans come with a TR19® certificate issued through the BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite portal.

Honest limits

A few issues sit outside what this work can do:

  • A fan that’s failing or too weak for the system
  • Grease behind the filters that a swap cannot remove
  • Grease deep in the extract system

If in doubt, call 0345 646 2711, or email photos and we will say what we think.

What we’re called out for in The City

Cooking vapour carries grease into the canopy. The filters catch much of it, and day by day they load up until the air can barely get through.

Most sites get in touch when they notice something like this:

  • Filters left unwashed on busy weeks
  • Blocked baffle filters
  • Grease left in baffles after washing
  • Damaged filters letting grease past

If you run catering at a historic house or estate in the area (West Wycombe Park House is about 2.7 miles south-east), event kitchens in older buildings often have awkward duct runs that need planning.

What to look for in a quote

  • Whether the quote shows VAT
  • What’s included in the scope, part by part
  • Their accreditations, such as BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite, CHAS or SafeContractor
  • How they set the interval to the next visit

Our hiring checklist

What happens if it’s left?

Leaving filters too long pushes more grease into the plenum and ducts. That makes the next full clean a bigger job and grease readings can rise between cleans. Systems in rural buildings are often out of sight and out of mind.

What you pay reflects the actual work. That is why we survey first, from photos or on site, and why the quote is fixed before work begins.

What you get with us

  • Photo reports with every job
  • Accredited under CHAS and SafeContractor, with ISO 9001
  • Member of BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease
  • We are fully insured

Keeping the system healthy

Good habits slow the build-up between visits. A few tips:

  • Book full TR19 cleans alongside filter changes
  • Tell us if the menu or opening hours change
  • Report a dripping canopy early
  • Keep canopy surfaces wiped down

Once the clean filters are in, the kitchen can cook right away. The dirty set leaves with us to be cleaned.

A kitchen that’s getting busier needs its filters changed more often. Adjusting the schedule now prevents a build-up in the ducts.

Your questions about grease filter exchange in The City

Can you work in The City outside opening hours?

Yes. We work evenings, overnight and at weekends. It means the site in The City keeps running as normal. Your opening times are the first thing we ask for.

Do you work in villages like The City?

Yes, The City is part of our area, however small the site. Let us know about access, parking and anything unusual about getting there when you book.

Will we have to shut during the visit?

Normally not. Out-of-hours visits keep the disruption down. Bigger sites can be done in stages so parts stay in use.

Do you have a 24/7 line?

Yes. Our emergency line runs 24/7, for problems that can’t wait. Ring any time and tell us what’s happened.

How do you protect the area?

With sheeting and covers, before anything else happens. We keep the work contained and clean down when we finish.

Do you handle baffle and mesh filters?

Baffle filters and mesh filters. Mention how many canopies you have when you get in touch, or we’ll check on the first visit.

What accreditations do you have?

Duct Doctor is a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease. CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001 are in place too, and we carry full insurance.

Do you provide a certificate or report?

Yes. You get a written report with photos after each visit, showing what was done, anything we couldn’t reach and when the next visit is due. Kitchen extract cleans to TR19® Grease also get a certificate through the BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite portal.

What happens on the day

We are used to working while the site is closed. Evenings, nights and weekends are when much of our work happens, so the site can open as normal afterwards. The visit itself takes anything from a few minutes to an hour or so, depending on the number of filters. Rural roads and tight entrances are worth telling us about before a visit to The City.

  1. We look at the canopies and the condition of the filters.
  2. We note any filters that are bent, damaged or missing.
  3. We exchange the dirty filters for a clean set.
  4. The filters are checked for fit before we go.
  5. We tell you if the plenum or canopy needs a clean.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Find the previous report, if there is one
  • Tell us about site rules, permits or sign-in
  • Clear loose items from the work area

Whether it’s one building or many, you get the same standard: diagnosis, a fixed price, work booked around your hours and a written report with photos.

A greasy canopy or dripping filters are the sort of thing an inspection can pick up. A dated certificate in the maintenance file answers the question before it’s asked. The City is covered by Buckinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service. The Fire Safety Order puts the duty on whoever runs a kitchen to control its fire risk, and a greasy duct is fuel.

What staff can safely do

For ventilation and air handling systems, in-house care is mostly about checks: clear grilles, a log of filter changes and reporting anything odd. The inside of ducts and units needs a specialist.

Day-to-day cleaning is something your team can do: wiping down canopy surfaces, cleaning filters and keeping a simple log. Inside the ducts, risers and fan is specialist work, and that is where we come in.
