Stanwell kitchens: local notes

Food Standards Agency records include about 13 pubs, bars and clubs and about 3 hotels, B&Bs and guest houses within 1.5 miles or so of the middle of Stanwell. Any of them serving cooked food has an extract to keep clean, from canopy to discharge. In Stanwell, food businesses are inspected by environmental health officers from Spelthorne council. They look at how clean the premises and equipment are, and the kitchen extract is part of that. Before-and-after photos from each clean are a simple way to show the extract is in hand. Stanwell is covered by Surrey Fire and Rescue Service. In most workplaces, including commercial kitchens, it’s the fire and rescue authority that enforces the Fire Safety Order.

Term dates shape school work: for a school like Stanwell Fields CofE Primary School, an extract clean fits neatly into a half-term or summer break. If you run catering at a healthcare site, such as a hospital like Ashford Hospital about 0.9 miles south, the extract may need cleaning more often than a part-time kitchen.

Stanwell is about 2 miles north of Ashford, in Surrey. Wherever you are in the TW19 postcode area, we can take on grease filter exchange. We cover 395 places across Surrey, large and small. Guildford is in our area too, around 15 miles away.

All of TW19 is covered for grease filter exchange, from the main roads to the quietest streets. Grease filter exchange is available to premises on High Street, Britannia Way and Frobisher Gardens and nearby roads. Grease filter exchange for kitchens and businesses in Stanwell

Baffle filters and mesh filters both fill with grease. Clogged filters choke the airflow and the extract struggles. Regular exchange keeps the air moving. If you’re dealing with staff short of time to wash filters and gaps where filters have been removed, we can put it right.

Around a smaller place like Stanwell, kitchen extracts tend to belong to pubs, cafés, takeaways and school or care home kitchens. A kitchen that cooks fewer hours still builds up grease, so the interval is set by hours of use and grease readings.

It’s worth checking any contractor’s accreditations. Ours are BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite membership, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease, plus CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001, and we are fully insured.

FAQs for Stanwell

Do you clean school canteen extracts around Stanwell out of term?

Yes. The holidays are the usual time for school work. The FSA’s register shows about 8 schools and colleges with food registrations within roughly a mile and a half of Stanwell. Just phone us on 0345 646 2711, or send details by email with your term dates and we’ll plan around them.

Which fire authority looks after Stanwell?

Stanwell is in the area of Surrey Fire and Rescue Service. Records of extract cleaning are a sensible thing to have ready if a fire safety officer carries out an audit.

Can we book visits on a schedule?

Yes. Regular plans can run on 3, 6 or 12-monthly cycles, to suit the system and how it’s used.

Do you work with multi-site operators?

Yes. You deal with one contact for every site in our area, with visits on a regular schedule.

Do you survey before quoting?

Yes, always. We diagnose before we treat: the survey tells us what the system needs and how to reach it, and the quote is based on that.

Do I get a report after the visit?

Yes, on every job. It’s a dated, written report with photos, and TR19® Grease cleans come with a certificate through the BESCA VHE portal. Keep it in your maintenance log.

What happens if you can’t reach some of it?

The report shows them clearly. In ductwork, new access panels are often the answer, which we can install.

Are you accredited?

CHAS, SafeContractor, ISO 9001 and BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite membership, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease. We’re fully insured and have been trading since 2009.

Leave it or put it right?

For any kitchen in Stanwell, filters cannot stand in for a full TR19 clean. But clean filters do help the system between cleans and the canopy and plenum stay cleaner. Light use slows the build-up but doesn’t stop it.

When the work has to happen, how we reach it and how big the site is can all change the price. Each of those is built into the quote and give you a fixed price before we start.

How the job changes from site to site

Mesh filters

Layers of mesh catch grease droplets. In a busy kitchen, mesh soon blocks and need frequent attention.

The plenum

The plenum is the space behind the filters. Grease that gets past the filters settles there.

Honest limits

Not every problem is solved by grease filter exchange, and we’d rather say so up front. It won’t put right:

  • Grease deep in the extract system
  • A fan that’s failing or too weak for the system
  • An extract that was undersized from the start

If in doubt, ring 0345 646 2711, or send details by email and we will say what we think before booking.

Parts of the system we cover

  • School and hospital kitchens
  • Baffle filters
  • Island canopies
  • Restaurants and pubs
  • Mesh filters
  • Wall canopies

What staff can safely do

A few tasks are always specialist work: entering ducts, working on fans, testing dampers and taking grease readings call for the right kit, training and safe access. Leave those to us.

Staff cleaning and specialist work are not the same thing. Wiping filters daily and washing them weekly keeps the visible parts in order, but they don’t reach the grease that builds up further in. Reaching it takes a specialist with the right equipment.

How it works

Your trading hours come first. Most visits are booked for when the area is out of use, such as evenings, overnight, early mornings or weekends. When the team arrives, the work area is protected and the relevant equipment is switched off to cool, and the job takes anything from a few minutes to an hour or so, depending on the number of filters. Your opening hours decide when we come to Stanwell, not ours.

  1. We start by noting how many filters you have and what type they are.
  2. Together we set how often the filters should be changed.
  3. Each visit starts with the used filters being removed.
  4. Clean, dry filters are fitted in their place, with no gaps left between them.
  5. Anything we notice, such as bent filters or a dirty plenum, is pointed out.

Preparing for the visit

  • Tell us the best time to work, such as after service or at a weekend
  • Have your last certificate or report to hand
  • Tell us about access, such as roof hatches, plant rooms, ceilings or locked areas

Ask for a quote

The quickest way to a quote is to send photos: wide shots of the system, close-ups of anything that worries you and how we’d get to it. Tell us what kind of site it is and when it’s open, and many jobs can be priced from that alone.

What we are called out for in Stanwell

Wherever you are, Stanwell included, filter washing is the job that gets skipped when the kitchen is busy. It only takes a couple of missed weeks for a filter bank to clog.

Keep an eye out for any of the following:

  • Bent or damaged filters that don’t sit properly
  • Filters left unwashed on busy weeks
  • A greasy plenum behind the filters
  • Filters so greasy the air can barely pass

If you run a church or community hall kitchen, near Church of St Mary or elsewhere in Stanwell, its extract still collects grease from every lunch and event.

Questions to ask before booking

  • Whether a written report and photos are included
