Kitchen extracts in St Ives
St Ives sits within the area of Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service. The Fire Safety Order puts the duty on whoever runs a kitchen to control its fire risk, and a greasy duct is fuel. It’s New Forest council that sends environmental health officers to food businesses in St Ives. The cleanliness of the kitchen and its equipment, extraction included, is part of what they check. A TR19® certificate and photo report after each clean gives you a record to show an inspector.
If you run catering at a historic house or estate in the area (Avon Tyrrell House is about 4.5 miles south-east), event kitchens in older buildings often have awkward duct runs that need planning. Healthcare kitchens, like those at hospitals such as St Leonard's Hospital (about 1.8 miles south-west), often cook for long hours, which puts them in BESA’s heavier-use bands. Where a hall near All Saints, or anywhere in St Ives, hosts lunch clubs or events, its extract gathers grease just as a café’s does.

How we handle grease filter exchange in St Ives
A filter service works alongside TR19® cleaning, not instead of it. Clean filters reduce the grease reaching the ducts though vapour still carries some grease past them. So the canopy, plenum and ducts still need their full TR19 clean. If you have drips falling from the filters onto equipment and bent or damaged filters that don’t sit properly, we can help, from wall canopies, mesh filters and baffle filters onwards.
For a kitchen in or near St Ives, the visit is planned around opening hours and the journey, and the clean itself is the same full TR19® job as in any town: canopy, filters, duct, fan and discharge, with a certificate and photo report at the end.
It’s worth checking any contractor’s accreditations. Ours are BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite membership, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease, plus CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001, with full insurance on top.

Why deal with it now?
Filters full of grease are fuel sitting right above the cooking. Flames from the range can be drawn up into the canopy and grease in the duct can carry a fire further. Clean filters mean less fuel in the canopy. With notice, the visit to St Ives can be fitted around your bookings and events.
Working hours, access and the scale of the site can all change the price. Each of those is built into the quote and give you a fixed price before we start.

Questions from St Ives
Can you work in St Ives outside opening hours?
Yes. We work evenings, overnight and at weekends. Your customers, staff or residents in St Ives needn’t be disturbed. Your opening times are the first thing we ask for.
Who inspects food businesses in St Ives?
Kitchens in St Ives are inspected by New Forest council’s environmental health officers. How often a business is inspected depends on the risk rating the council gives it, so it’s worth staying ready all year.
Do you have a 24/7 line?
Yes. For anything urgent, such as a fan failure or damage after a fire, ring the 24/7 line, and we will advise on what to do next.
Do you deal with bent or broken filters?
Each filter is looked at when we exchange. We tell you about any that are damaged since a poor fit lets grease past.
Are you insured?
Yes, we are fully insured. CHAS and SafeContractor accreditation sit alongside it, for sites that check contractor safety.
Can you set up regular visits?
Yes. Plans on a 3, 6 or 12-monthly cycle are available, depending on what the system needs.
How much does a filter exchange service cost?
It depends on the number and type of filters and how often they’re changed. Just call us on 0345 646 2711 or drop us a line for a fixed quote, normally within one working day.
What happens to the waste?
Anything we remove is contained as we work and taken away with us, including grease, debris and dirty water. None of it is left on site.
What we do, step by step
We turn up at the time agreed with you, often in the evening, overnight or at the weekend so the site keeps working. Equipment that has to be off is switched off and allowed to cool first, and the area around the work is covered and protected. The work itself takes a short visit, depending on how many filters the canopies hold. Rural roads and tight entrances are worth telling us about before a visit to St Ives.
- We record the number, size and type of your filters.
- We set the interval with you.
- The dirty set is lifted out.
- Clean filters go in and we check they sit snugly.
- We take the greasy set away and confirm the next date.
Getting ready for the visit
- Have your last certificate or report to hand
- Let us know how we reach the system, including roofs, risers and plant rooms
- Allow time for equipment near the work to be turned off and cool down
Ask for a quote
Some systems can be priced from photos; others need a survey. Big or complicated sites, and systems that are hard to see in pictures, get a survey first. Either way, you get a fixed price before we start.
Advice
What a clean won’t put right
Grease filter exchange cannot fix everything, and we’ll tell you before we start. It doesn’t solve:
- A canopy that needs a proper clean
- Extraction problems caused by the fan rather than the filters
- Grease deep in the extract system
Not sure which it is? You can call 0345 646 2711, or email photos and we will tell you honestly.
Parts of the system we cover
- Mesh filters
- Island canopies
- Baffle filters
- Restaurants and pubs
- School and hospital kitchens
- Wall canopies
How the job changes from site to site
Busy restaurant and pub kitchens
High-output kitchens clog filters quickly. They often need the shortest exchange interval.
Baffle filters
Baffle filters are robust and widely used in commercial canopies. They don’t clean themselves as the collected grease builds up between the blades.

In-house cleaning or a specialist?
Some jobs should never be done in-house: entering ducts, working on fans, testing dampers and taking grease readings call for the right kit, training and safe access. That’s our job.
When your team notices a problem between visits, such as dripping grease, a noisy fan, a smell or a filter that won’t come clean, it’s best reported rather than tackled in-house. We will take a look and send you a fixed quote.
How we price grease filter exchange
There’s no set price list, because sites vary so much. The quote depends on:
- One-off work versus a regular cycle
- The condition of the system
- When the work can happen, such as evenings, overnight or weekends
- Whether several sites go on one quote
No two sites are the same, so we price each one individually. The size of the job, how we reach it, its condition and the working hours all make a difference.
What we need to know
Photos let us diagnose from a distance. Try to include:
- Any previous report or certificate
- The site address and the type of premises
- When the site is open and when it’s quiet
- Problems your staff have spotted
There’s no standard price list, because no two systems are the same. Instead, we look at your site first, from photos or a survey, then send a fixed quote. To get going, give us a ring on 0345 646 2711 or email us.
For landlords and multi-site operators
For anyone managing more than one site, we can plan visits across the whole estate and price them together. Every building has its own written report, so records stay tidy.
From a single site to a large estate, the standard is the same: diagnosis, a fixed price, work booked around your hours and a written report with photos.
