Grease filter exchange in St Ann's, done properly

We set up grease filter exchange for kitchens in St Ann's on a schedule that suits their cooking. Busy kitchens need changes more often while a lighter kitchen can go longer. We agree the interval with you at the start. If you are dealing with filters left unwashed on busy weeks and missing filters in the filter bank, we can help.

In London, few kitchens can spare a day to close, so extract cleaning in St Ann's is normally done overnight, after the last service. Parking, loading and access to the roof are agreed with the building before the night of the clean.

We have been trading since 2009, as a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease. We also hold CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001, and we are fully insured.

St Ann's: your questions answered

Who carries out food hygiene inspections in St Ann's?

In St Ann's, it’s Haringey council that carries out food hygiene inspections. It helps to keep the extract cleaning records with your food safety paperwork, so they’re ready if asked for.

Do you do school kitchen extract cleaning in St Ann's in the summer holidays?

Yes. The holidays are the usual time for school work. There are about 48 schools, colleges and universities on the FSA’s food hygiene register within about 1.5 miles of St Ann's. Tell us your holiday dates and we’ll book the visit for when the site is empty.

Is there a survey before the work?

Yes. We always survey first, either from photos and details you send or on a site visit. A fixed quote follows.

Which records should we keep?

Anything that proves the system is maintained: our reports and photos, any certificates and your in-house logs. One maintenance log per site keeps it simple.

Where do the greasy filters go?

We take them away to be cleaned, so your staff don’t have to wash them. A clean set is fitted in their place.

Does a filter exchange disrupt service?

Not for long, and we can time it to avoid service. The canopy shouldn’t be used without filters so the swap is done promptly.

What types of premises do you cover?

Commercial premises of every kind: from restaurants, pubs and hotels to schools, hospitals, care homes, offices, shops and food production sites. Work is timed around how each site runs.

Can we skip TR19 cleans if the filters are changed regularly?

No, the two work together. A TR19® clean deals with the whole system and comes with a certificate and photo report.

What your team can do, and what needs us

Good housekeeping makes our visits easier, not unnecessary. Regular in-house cleaning slows the build-up, but the parts you cannot see still need a specialist at the right interval.

Away from the kitchen, the in-house job is mainly checking: clear grilles, a log of filter changes and reporting anything odd. The inside of ducts and units needs a specialist.

What grease filter exchange looks like in St Ann's

Food Standards Agency records include about 43 pubs, bars and clubs and about 3 hotels and guest houses in St Ann's and the streets around it, up to about 1.5 miles out. Breakfasts, bar meals and functions all put grease into the extract wherever they’re cooked. It’s Haringey council that sends environmental health officers to food businesses in St Ann's. An officer looking round a kitchen will see the canopy, and grease there is hard to miss. Before-and-after photos from each clean are a simple way to show the extract is in hand. London Fire Brigade covers St Ann's. Its fire safety officers can audit commercial kitchens, and grease in the extract is part of a kitchen’s fire risk.

Volunteers running a hall kitchen near St Ann's Church, or anywhere in St Ann's, may not know when the extract was last cleaned, and a grease test settles it. If you run a café or takeaway near Seven Sisters station, early starts and late finishes leave little time to clean, so overnight extract cleaning suits.

Why deal with it now?

Once filters are saturated, more grease gets past them. That makes the next full clean a bigger job, and grease may build up faster than the cleaning interval allows. London buildings are shared, so a fire or failure in one system can reach the neighbours above and beside you.

The price reflects the work, not guesswork. That is why we survey first, from photos or on site, and why the quote is fixed before we start.

Part by part

The plenum

With good filters, less grease ends up in the plenum, but it still needs cleaning as part of TR19.

Mesh filters

Mesh traps grease between its layers, so a quick rinse rarely gets it clean.

What we do, step by step

Everything the job needs comes with us, including protection sheets, the right tools and access kit. All we need from you is clear access and the right equipment switched off. On site, the work takes anything from a few minutes to an hour or so, depending on the number of filters. Before any visit in St Ann's, we agree where the van can stop and how equipment reaches the system.

  1. We record the number, size and type of your filters.
  2. We set the interval with you.
  3. The dirty set is lifted out.
  4. A clean set is fitted and checked for gaps.
  5. The dirty filters leave with us and the next visit is booked.

What affects the cost of grease filter exchange

The diagnosis comes before the price. The main factors are:

  • The times the site is available
  • The condition of the system
  • Any permits to work or inductions
  • How easy every part is to reach

Kitchens, offices, schools and hospitals are all priced the same way: the size of the job, access, condition and working hours. Call for a fixed quote and we’ll go through it with you.

What to send for a quote

We can often survey from pictures. The most useful are:

  • Problems your staff have spotted
  • Close-ups of filters, grilles, hatches or access panels
  • Any previous report or certificate
  • Your opening hours and when the area is out of use

Need a price for grease filter exchange? Please ring 0345 646 2711 or use the quote form and tell us about the site. We will explain what we’d do and send a fixed quote before anything is booked.

When something else is needed

We’d rather tell you now than book work that will not help, so here are the limits:

  • An extract that was undersized from the start
  • Greasy ducts and risers that a filter change won’t reach
  • Smell complaints that need odour control equipment

If in doubt, phone us on 0345 646 2711 or drop us a line and we’ll say what we think.

Where we work

  • Baffle filters
  • Restaurants and pubs
  • School and hospital kitchens
  • Island canopies
  • Mesh filters
  • Wall canopies

What we’re called out for in St Ann's

However long the kitchen cooks each day, the filters see every minute of it. A kitchen that cooks all day loads its filters quickly, so it needs more frequent changes.

Look out for any of the following:

  • Weak extraction at the canopy
  • Filters left unwashed on busy weeks
  • A canopy running with filters missing
  • Drips falling from the filters onto equipment

Kitchens that cook twelve hours or more a day, as some healthcare kitchens do, fall into BESA’s three-monthly minimum; City of London Maternity Hospital is the nearest hospital to St Ann's, about 1.7 miles south-west.

What to look for in a quote

  • Exactly which parts of the system are covered
  • Whether they recommend a next date
  • What paperwork you get at the end
  • What happens if part of the system can’t be accessed
