Grease filter exchange in Ripple

What affects the quote in Ripple

The quote reflects the site in front of us. We consider:

  • How easy every part is to reach
  • Parking and loading at the site
  • When the work can happen, such as evenings, overnight or weekends
  • Site rules, permits and inductions

Combining work into one visit or one programme can make for a more efficient booking. Tell us about everything you’d like looked at, and you will get one fixed quote.

Helping us quote

To speed up the quote, please include:

  • The postcode and the type of business
  • Detail shots of panels, filters and grilles
  • When the site is open and when it’s quiet
  • The roof, plant room or outside wall the system runs to

To help us quote: where the site is, what it is and its opening hours, pictures of the system and the last certificate or report, if there is one. Then call 0345 646 2711 or use the quote form.

Grease filter exchange in Ripple, done properly

Filter exchange sits between full TR19® cleans. Clean filters reduce the grease reaching the ducts though vapour still carries some grease past them. So the canopy, plenum and ducts still need their full TR19 clean. If you have damaged filters letting grease past and grease filters clogged with grease, we can help, from restaurants and pubs, school and hospital kitchens and baffle filters onwards.

Work in a small place like Ripple starts with a call to agree access and timings, and the clean covers the whole system, as it would anywhere: canopy, filters, duct, fan and discharge, with a certificate and photo report at the end.

Duct Doctor has been trading since 2009, as a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease. We also hold CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001, and we’re fully insured.

Part by part

Canopy filter housings

Every exchange includes a check of how the filters sit, because gaps let grease through.

Mesh filters

Older or smaller canopies often use mesh filters. We exchange them on the same basis as baffles.

What we’re called out for in Ripple

Missing filters are more common than you’d think. A missing filter leaves an open route into the system and on into the ductwork.

What we’re most often called out for:

  • A canopy running with filters missing
  • Bent or damaged filters that don’t sit properly
  • Poor airflow through the filters
  • Grease building up behind the canopy filters

If you run catering at a historic house or estate in the area (Walmer Castle is about 1.9 miles east), event kitchens in older buildings often have awkward duct runs that need planning.

What your quote should include

  • Exactly which parts of the system are covered
  • Their accreditations, such as BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite, CHAS or SafeContractor
  • Whether the figure could change on the day
  • Whether they recommend a next date

Honest limits

Not every problem is solved by grease filter exchange, and we’d rather say so up front. It will not put right:

  • A canopy that doesn’t capture the vapour properly
  • A noisy or failed extract fan
  • Greasy ducts and risers that a filter change will not reach

If in doubt, phone us on 0345 646 2711 or send us an email and we will say what we think before booking.

Parts of the system we cover

  • Island canopies
  • Mesh filters
  • School and hospital kitchens
  • Baffle filters
  • Restaurants and pubs
  • Wall canopies

In-house cleaning or a specialist?

In-house cleaning and specialist cleaning do different jobs. Wiping filters daily and washing them weekly keeps the visible parts in order, but they do not reach the grease that builds up further in. Reaching it takes a specialist with the right equipment.

When your team notices a problem between visits, like drips, unusual noise, smells or damaged filters, it’s best reported rather than tackled in-house. We can diagnose it and quote.

Questions from Ripple

Can the work in Ripple be done at night or at weekends?

Yes, we can come after you close and finish before you open. The site is handed back ready to open. Just phone us on 0345 646 2711 or drop us a line with your opening times and we will plan around them.

Does being near the coast affect grease filter exchange in Ripple?

It can, as Ripple is within about 3 miles of the sea, where salt in the air is hard on metal. Rooftop fans, discharge cowls and fixings are checked for corrosion as well as grease.

What happens if you cannot reach some of it?

They’re listed in the report, never skipped quietly. You will know exactly which parts weren’t reached and why, and we can quote to improve the access.

Does the law say we must follow TR19?

No. TR19® is BESA’s specification, not legislation. The legal duty comes from the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005: the responsible person must assess and reduce fire risk, and TR19® is the benchmark for showing that grease in the extract is under control.

Can you give a price for filter changes?

Filters, canopies and how often you need visits all affect the price. Send us details or photos and we will quote, normally within one working day.

Can we skip TR19 cleans if the filters are changed regularly?

It does not. Filters don’t catch everything, so grease still reaches the ductwork and the whole system still needs its TR19 clean.

Will I get paperwork for my records?

Yes. Each visit ends with a written report and pictures, showing what was done, anything we couldn’t reach and when the next visit is due. Kitchen extract cleans to TR19® Grease also get a certificate through the BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite portal.

Which accreditations do you hold?

Duct Doctor is a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease. We also hold CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001, and we are fully insured.

For landlords and multi-site operators

Running several sites is easier with one contractor. We work across London and the South East, so a run of sites can go into one programme and kept to a regular schedule.

When the building owner and the occupier are different, the lease normally sets out who maintains what. We are happy to deal with either side, and the report can go to both.

Ripple kitchens: local notes

Ripple lies within about 3 miles of the sea. Metal on the roof weathers faster close to the coast, and the extract fan and cowl are no exception. According to Food Standards Agency records, there are about 5 bars, pubs and nightclubs in Ripple and the streets around it, up to about 1.5 miles out. Where they serve hot food, their kitchen extracts need cleaning to TR19® like any restaurant’s. It’s Dover council that sends environmental health officers to food businesses in Ripple. They look at how clean the premises and equipment are, and the kitchen extract is part of that. A TR19® certificate and photo report after each clean gives you a record to show an inspector.

Church and community hall kitchens, near Church of St Mary the Virgin or anywhere around Ripple, are easy to forget, but their extracts collect grease like any other. Bursars and site managers at schools such as St Mary's Catholic Primary School tend to book extract cleaning for when the kitchen is empty.

How it works

Everything the job needs comes with us, from protective sheeting to tools and access equipment. All we need from you is clear access and the right equipment switched off. The visit takes less than an hour in most kitchens. Visits to a village like Ripple are booked in advance, at a time that suits whoever runs the site.

  1. We record the number, size and type of your filters.
  2. We set the interval with you.
  3. The dirty set is lifted out.
  4. Clean filters go in and we check they sit snugly.
  5. The dirty filters leave with us and the next visit is booked.

Preparing for the visit

Some systems can be priced from pictures; others need a survey. Big or complicated sites, and systems that are hard to see in photos, get a survey first. Either way, the quote is fixed before any work is booked.
